This is an absolute nightmare of a case. If you've not been aware of it before now it's time to wake up and take a hard look at what is happening in women's support services across the UK. There seems to be a concerted effort to dismantle women's boundaries and withdraw support from vulnerable women who need spaces away from men.

The judgment is full of striking stuff:

10. Towards the end of her period working at the respondent the claimant became aware of a specific case where a woman in her 60s approached the Edinburgh Rape Crisis Centre and indicated she wished to take part in group work. She had kept secret for 40 years the fact that she had been sexually assaulted. She wished to meet other survivors as part of her recovery. The claimant was aware that during the course of her initial conversation she asked ERCC if they could reassure her that it was women only. She was advised that ERCC were trans inclusive and when she made clear that she was unhappy that she may be seeing someone who was not biologically female she was advised that she was not suitable for their service and was excluded from the service. The claimant was concerned that this meant that someone was effectively excluded from the services of the respondent for asking for a women’s only survivors group. She also became aware later in her time with the respondent that the respondent had a policy of not referring people in this situation to Beira’s Place which by this time was a sexual violence support centre set up specifically as a single sex space or as an organisation run by women for women.

TheKeatingFive · 20/05/2024 14:17

In any event, wouldn't MW have had to present some form of ID on taking the job?

AngeloMysterioso · 20/05/2024 14:18

I could be remembering this wrong, but I’m sure I read somewhere that he didn’t actually apply for the job, but rather was offered it outright after attending a conference or event of some kind?

Anyone got a link to the interview where Mridul talks about rape victims having orgasms and seeing rape victims four times a week and keeping the job "fun"?

I remember this. That this male person expressed so much interest at women who orgasm during rape. There was SO much publicly available about this male person before they were hired, and yet, some panel hired them.

So many red flags.

FFS nauticant. This is horrific. I missed a lot of the tribunal but this is abhorrent.

WTH?

He has no relevant qualifications for it.

We need an enquiry into how he got it in the first place. I'm guessing Maggie Chapman placed some sort in that

FOJN · 20/05/2024 14:25

yellowridinghood · 20/05/2024 12:34

Who, Maggie Chapman who said in an interview that she didn’t know whether she was male or female as she hadn’t had her chromosomes checked? That Maggie Chapman?

The only reason she hasn’t been sectioned is the dire state of mental health services. She is certifiably insane, no question about it. It’s terrifying that she’s an MSP and making decisions that affect the Scottish public.

Yes the same Maggie Chapman who thought children as young as six should be able to legally change 'gender'.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 20/05/2024 14:20

That's ... not the reaction I was expecting from Reddit at all.

Is the tide turning?

I notice that even the most militant of TRAs are largely keeping out of this.

Helleofabore · 20/05/2024 14:29

Does everyone remember the early interview with Wahwa where he express wonder about his power over whether his actions allowed a family in the US to eat that night or not from his role in India answering calls in the call centre?

I always felt that this is a man who gets something from having power over women getting their needs met or not. That first interview that I heard and all the ones since has never shaken this suspicion.

I will see if I can dig up the interview link if it still exists.

I was just wondering where the usual Mumsnet TWAW! regulars were seeing as this is remaining on AIBU.

I can’t post the link as you need to subscribe, but The Times reporting that he is under pressure to resign.

IbisDancer · 20/05/2024 13:00

As the CEO did an unfair dismissal on a discriminatory basis in violation of the Equality Act, yes they should be fired.

But the comments on they never should have been hired in the first place only make sense if they had been found in an employment tribunal to have done an unfair dismissal before.

Comments saying a man/transperson can’t be CEO are discriminatory and a violation of the Equality Act.

Edited

Please stop repeating this misinformation. People can lawfully be discriminated against on the basis if sex if there is a genuine occupational requirement for a man or a woman to do a job.

Mridul Wadhwa is a man. He does not have a GRC. No other man would have been considered for this job, therefore refusing to interview him would not have been discrimination.

Women are not objecting on the basis that he is trans but because he is a MAN. Stop trying to frame the objections as transphobia when that is not what is happening, its really dishonest.

  • It's so much easier to write posts now we can call a man a man without getting deleted.

Should be sacked
Should never have been employed
Should have been sacked after saying 'reframe your trauma'
Won't resign
Board will be too chicken shit to sack.
Would put bets on requiring outside intervention (probably from the Scottish charity regulator) to get rid.
Fair chance go off sick at some point citing stress to fleece said charity.

It's worth remembering that at the time ERCC was actually claiming that they used this exception.

Apologies @FOJN meant to quote you

Didn't he suggest previously that rape victims should refrained their trauma 🤔

The Times article:

And helpful archive link to it: https://archive.ph/S6qgL

Basically says Wadwha's position is untenable and two directors (Miren Sagues, and Katie Horsburgh) have resigned, although Companies House says that Sagues resigned at the end of January this year and Horsburgh resigned on 8th May.

Nice blouse, shame there were none available in his size.

DodoPatrol · 20/05/2024 14:55

Mridul knew and should have had the integrity not to apply.

Contrast this, if you will, with the approach of the person currently answering questions on an AMA thread, who is female, presents male, and appears to take infinite care not to embarrass either female patients who might mistakenly believe her male, or male patients who have asked for same-sex care.

There is no genuine occupational requirement for a CEO of any organisation to be of one sex or another. 🤨

The objections to hiring a person as CEO on the basis of their sex are discriminatory.

Stop trying to frame my comment on sex discrimination as transphobia when that is not what is happening, that is really dishonest.

DodoPatrol · 20/05/2024 14:58

And Mridul had a near-infinite choice of jobs not requiring him to be female. The users of rape crisis centres have few choices of where to go for single-sex care, and MW didn't care about that at all.

Take it up with Rape Crisis, they are the ones who restricted the job to women only.
