Baked 23 cookies, dh ate 8 of them

I baked some cookies after dinner, like I do most weekends so the kids had some slightly less unhealthy snacks to go in their lunch boxes and to just have in the house. At the end of the night I went to put them in a container from the cooling rack and only 14 remained. I had one, so dh took 8 of them in the two hours since I cooked them! What kind of shitty self control is that.

I feel more pissed off that I took a little bit of time to do something nice (mainly for the kids, we're adults, we don't need bloody biscuits), and he's just gone for it with no respect for anyone else. Only apologised when I called him out for it. Ugh.

It's not the crime of the century, but I can see why OP is annoyed. If her DH isn't going to bake a batch to replace them (or go and buy something else for the lunchboxes), it's been a bit of a waste of her time and effort. Snaffling 8 in a couple of hours without checking is pretty greedy. My DH is a sugar fiend but recognises baking takes time and effort (he's never baked anything in the time I've known him) so if I make something he's always makes sure it gets shared equally between us.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 19/05/2024 10:24

A rarely made batch of 12 oat biscuits will rarely last longer than a day in this house - just me and dh, 🐷🐷. I add lemon zest to the v quick and easy recipe, which IMO is a great improvement.

And dh virtually inhales homemade mince pies, though to be entirely fair, my little trad jobs aren’t much more than a mouthful.

Vistada · 19/05/2024 10:25

Do you think he could have early onset dementia and forgot he ate them?

Dibbydoos · 19/05/2024 10:27

You are obviously a super cookie maker @27Bumblebees

You made 23, ate 1 which left 22. 15 for kids snacks which means he ate 1 too many. They must be moreish

Tell him what your planning with the cookies next time, make a lot more, and tell your DH which are his. Or teach him how to make them!!

Coconut and chocolate with oats in. Pretty tasty.

Do you like your husband?

I couldn’t live with someone who thought adults don’t need biscuits. Team hubby I’m afraid (going off to check my secret store of bourbons and Oreos are still there).

DomPom47 · 19/05/2024 10:35

Wowsy they must have been delicious cookies for him to have eaten 8. Compliments to the chef 👍

lljkk · 19/05/2024 10:36

Friend (3 adult offspring & a hefty husband) never bakes < 48 cookies at a time, because she knows how quickly they disappear...

As for the husband being greedy..the biscuits sound quite tiny!
^^
''A teaspoon full of mixture, rolled flat''

That's not a large biscuit.

Oh God - missed this! That’s bloody tiny! 🙄 I envisaged big cookies like the 4 in a bag ones in supermarkets. A man (or woman) smashing 8 biscuits of this size isn’t a concern for self control as long as it’s not frequently done or as part of binging and purging. I’m sure he eats healthyish otherwise…

It doesn't sound much fun in your house, op.

I’ll say.

(Anyone else old enough to remember this one?)

@TinaYouFatLard love it!

It's like a year 6 maths SATs question:

A woman bakes 23 cookies, she eats one herself. Later when she returns, there are 14 cookies remaining. How many cookies did her DH eat, and does this make him a fat bastard?

ManagedMove · 19/05/2024 10:44

8 is not that many, they were clearly disgusting 😂 joking, but honestly I don't think 8 is too bad, it's a testament to your baking really, next time double up?

They're easy as anything, I bet you can make a tasty batch!

Also to the poster who guffawed at the coconut, have you never had an Anzac biscuit?? They are staples in our house, although some recipes are way too sweet. I'd recommend you give them a look in

Just to say chocolate chip oat cookies are a favourite in this house too.

I also add coconut because it is yummy!

There are 6 people in this house OP. I would never make less than 3 dozen!!

Chocolate Chip Cookies Recipe | Odlums

Preheat oven to 190°C/375°F/Gas 5. Lightly grease two baking trays. Put the butter and sugar into a bowl and beat until mixture is smooth. Add the egg and the vanilla essence and beat again. Finally stir in the flour, oats and chocolate. Mixture wil...

He has been selfish and greedy as he would have known they were for all of you. Next time make 25 and tell him there are 5 each If he wants to eat his 5 in one go that’s up to him.

Benthany · 19/05/2024 10:52

I can guarantee there won't be any left for the kids lunchboxes. They sound far too tempting. 🤣🤣🤣I love homemade cookied.

@27Bumblebees

kids don’t need biscuits either

adults and kids are just as important as each other so both should have biscuits if they want to

Needapadlockonmyfridge · 19/05/2024 10:58

I have deliberated and concluded....

OP, YABVVU as you obviously didn't make enough 😀

Anonymous2025 · 19/05/2024 10:59

Lol I’m assuming this is a joke post . On a good note you can get him a Cookie Monster t shirt for Father’s Day 😜

Yep they absolutely wouldn't have lasted the weekend in this house (wouldn't have lasted to the next morning if I'm honest. Certainly wouldn't make it to being a lunch box treat all week!

A bite sized cookie!!! You'd need 8 of them to make up 1 normal sized cookie😂

fieldsofbutterflies · 19/05/2024 11:10

My mum's a big baker and I remember stuff not even lasting 2-3 hours in our house growing up - and there was only three of us Grin

TheWomanTheyCallJayne · 19/05/2024 11:13

I would be miffed too.
It’s not about the size of the cookies or how long it took him.
It’s simply that he took more than his share and didn’t think to consider anyone else or the fact that for there to be enough to last a week of lunchboxes more would need to be made.
