Baked 23 cookies, dh ate 8 of them

I baked some cookies after dinner, like I do most weekends so the kids had some slightly less unhealthy snacks to go in their lunch boxes and to just have in the house. At the end of the night I went to put them in a container from the cooling rack and only 14 remained. I had one, so dh took 8 of them in the two hours since I cooked them! What kind of shitty self control is that.

I feel more pissed off that I took a little bit of time to do something nice (mainly for the kids, we're adults, we don't need bloody biscuits), and he's just gone for it with no respect for anyone else. Only apologised when I called him out for it. Ugh.

That’s even worse because they are cookies for the kids. He’s taken from his own kids.

Fair enough to have one or two, but to have a third of all the cookies is greedy af.

Edited

He’s taken a few sugary biscuits from kids 😆it’s ok - they’ll live and be healthier for it!

this is a non issue though, the adults or even the kids can easily make some more up. They’re actually fun to bake…especially with children! I used to love baking with my mum or my older brothers.

If I was OP I’d tell him to bake a new batch or wash everything - if I hadn’t already - and get the mixing bowl etc ready for me to make another batch (as I enjoy baking so it wouldn’t be a chore) . Problem solved.

They’re SO easy and quick to make, the only slightly tedious/boring part for me is washing /cleaning up afterwards .

Easy peasy, no stress!

Marplesyrup · 19/05/2024 09:37

Thank you for the recipe OP and for being so good natured about it!

GingerPirate · 19/05/2024 09:37

Alright, OP.
They were obviously tasty. 🍪
I get you have kids, selfishness of DH etc.
I would be happy if a) I could bake cookies like this and b) if my husband ate 10 if them!
I know, child free, retired...
Bake some more 😁

I do think you have a bit of a point. I mean, I’m the world’s biggest sugar fiend and always eating biscuits, but the most I’ve ever eaten in one go is 4, and even then they were only custard cream size, so if they were large round cookies then I think that’s a bit greedy. There isn’t any need to eat 8 in 2 hours.

I think you need to reassess your opinion of yourself 4 isn't even a mild sugar issue....4 packets maybe...

They're easy as anything, I bet you can make a tasty batch!

Also to the poster who guffawed at the coconut, have you never had an Anzac biscuit?? They are staples in our house, although some recipes are way too sweet. I'd recommend you give them a look in

Bulk biscuits

Ingredients
¾ cup unsalted butter, softened
½ cup sugar (brown or white)
1 egg yolk
1½ cup self-raising flour
½ teaspoon salt
²/³ cups rolled oats
²/³ cup optional flavours, such as: chocolate chips, finely chopped dried fruit, desiccated coconut or 3 tablespoons grated orange rind

Method

  1. Use a mixer to cream the butter and sugar together until light and fluffy. Mix in the egg yolk.
  2. Sift over the flour and salt then stir into the butter mixture. Add the oats and extra flavour ingredients then stir to combine. Roll into balls and chill in the fridge for at least 20 minutes. You can also freeze the
batter at this point.
  1. Preheat the oven to 180°C and line a baking tray with baking paper.
  2. Roll the mixture into teaspoon-sized balls, place them on the baking tray and flatten slightly with a spoon.
  3. Bake until golden, about 10-12 minutes. Transfer to a wire rack to cool.

Thanks for the recipe.

Yabu for not converting 3/4 cup of butter to grams in advance. But I see someone has so you are off the hook 😘🍪
Oh and I love coconut!

Biscuits are for eating- not looking at!

I'm with your husband here!

What do you mean 'We're adults..we don't need biscuits?''

Clearly your husband did.

There are plenty left over for other people.

Yeah when I go to work meetings or conferences plenty of people eat a few biscuits. Not that I’m counting what they’re eating but I’m sure that’s Fairly standard.

I actually don’t eat any biscuits usually at these work functions but purely because as much as I love sugary foods I’m quite fussy about what I eat and sometimes find they’re a bit stale or too soft or just not too my taste unless its one of those fancy cookie shops I tend to prefer to bake my own biscuits/cookies.

heck If I’m going to raise my blood sugar and go over my calorie allowance i make sure it’s tasty enough to be worthwhile 😆

You’ve never necked a packet of Jaffa cakes in ten mins..?

Gah, Jaffa cakes 🤢😁

Cattyisbatty · 19/05/2024 09:47

8 is a lot in 2 hours! How big were they?

FusionChefGeoff · 19/05/2024 09:48

I know this thread has taken a different turn but they're not shop bought biscuits that he's eaten. She's not policing his eating, she's valuing her time!!

OP spent time on her sat night baking for the lunches so kids have better snacks.

I'm guessing DH doesn't regularly bake snacks???

All the 'just make another batch' people can fuck right off.

If I make something that's supposed to last all week and before they've even made it to the cupboard there's 8 gone I'd be cross.

It's selfish and thoughtless.

RicherThanYews · 19/05/2024 09:49

Op, I bake regularly and if the items are not eaten fairly quickly I would be most offended at my own shitty cooking abilities. It's a compliment, take it and be happy. He left some for the children so no harm done.

jannier · 19/05/2024 09:49

Home baked biscuits must be eaten when fresh anything else is wrong it's like bread out of the oven.

Best not share my sugar fiend moments involving things like jars of Nutella and a spoon…

Mustreadabook · 19/05/2024 09:50

He should bake his own biscuits. Then he can eat 8 and no one will know. Not that that is what I do when baking of course.

oakleaffy · 19/05/2024 09:51

GingerPirate · 19/05/2024 09:46

Gah, Jaffa cakes 🤢😁

Jaffa cakes are so easy to smash- I can do a packet of those in half an hour - nothing to them, they are mainly air and have got smaller and far fewer in a packet.

Home made biscuits are far nicer.

I've been there...I don't buy Nutella any more because of this.

Have you ever tried home made Jaffa Cakes? They are very close to the original ones but better.

Sadly not... I didn't know they were a thing? I seem to remember the older style of Jaffa cake as being much nicer than the modern type.

Home made sound lovely.

All too often Jaffa cakes {especially from independent shops} taste a little stale.

oakleaffy · 19/05/2024 10:00

As for the husband being greedy..the biscuits sound quite tiny!
^^
''A teaspoon full of mixture, rolled flat''

That's not a large biscuit.

bloodyplumbing · 19/05/2024 10:05

@oakleaffy I have found my tribe! I also think Jaffa cakes taste stale but the rest of the family disagree!

kitsuneghost · 19/05/2024 10:05

IbisDancer · 18/05/2024 22:20

Delicious sounding recipe.

Not even remotely healthy though.

Subject to no nasties in the dried fruit it is still UPF free so still healthier than shop bought.

Exactly, I reckon it's equivalent of about three normal size biscuits! Perfectly acceptable to eat in 2 hours.

The recipe says they were tiny teaspoons of dough - so, not very big at all!
