Our lovely FTB 🙄have requested wheelie bins be included after generous discount… many unreasonable requests met!

AIBU to leave dead nan ashes under the floorboards & take the wheel bins as a summer plunge pool for the kids 🫣

It would never cross my mind to take wheelie bins with me on a house move.

shazshaz · 17/05/2024 07:54

I know round my way the council own the rubbish bin but the garden waste bin we own & it cost £100 to buy plus an annual fee. If we move within the borough the council say take the bin and they send you a sticker with your new address to put on it. If you move outside the borough you leave the bin, they collect it and give you money back.

So mumsnet has spoken, I’ll leave the bin. As people have suggested, we live in an area which do not provide bins and we’ve purchased it. Our new property doesn’t have one either.

maybe this is a massive drip feed but the discount is for a cat flap that can be seen in pics, seen in person and was negotiated after a survey (which didn’t show much!)

so maybe I’ll leave them nan & the cat.

You sound like the kind of person who would just leave their pet.

HMW1906 · 17/05/2024 07:54

If you’re not happy with the price you’ve agreed then you should have said no. Not said yes then start being petty and tidy about wheelie bins and grans ashes (which no one would care about other than you and maybe other family members who would be horrified that you would do that to a loved ones ashes).

Pipsquiggle · 17/05/2024 07:56

Why did you agree to a discount for the cat flap? They knew they were being CF asking for it but it sounds like you capitulated.
How much discount did you give them?
Sounds like they wanted a little bit more off to make them feel like they've got a deal, a bit like on Bargain Hunt when they say 'Would you take x ' after asking 'What's your best price?'

I have always left the bins even though I paid for them from the council.

Please don't be that person to take the light bulbs and loo seat, you're coming across as petty. Your house is nearly sold, go and make lovely memories in your new home

RubySloth · 17/05/2024 07:59

Utterly bizarre that anyone takes wheelie bins with them. Seriously very odd but then again, you think ashes can haunt so enough said, really. 😂

Beekeepingmum · 17/05/2024 08:02

I think we can all see where the problem is in this process. You sound vindicative. Your nan isn't going to haunt them, they won't care about a little extra dust under the floor boards, and if they do find out nan will just end up in the council landfill via their hoover and the new bin.

Flamingos89 · 17/05/2024 08:03

My god - I just thought wheelie bins came with the house 😂😂😂 learn something new everyday

HarryPottersScar · 17/05/2024 08:04

Blimey OP - you think you are being funny but you just sound angry and vindictive. Even your user name is aggressive. Chill out. Life will be much calmer if you do.

So

they requested a discount because the door has a cat flap….well now I’ve heard it all. Why did you agree to it.!!

Im going to reverse my suggestion because
they are petty and
You have to buy your bins in your area and
you’ll have to do the same when you move
they are your bins not the councils.

Jc2001 · 17/05/2024 08:09

Sound what discount did you give for the catflap?

ineedtostopbeingdramaticfirst · 17/05/2024 08:10

We moved in to a new house and had to buy the bins £150 for three!!

We moved a year later (temporary accommodation) we left them as it was more grief to take them.

Ginmonkeyagain · 17/05/2024 08:12

I mean you could have said no to the cat flat discount. We had a nervous FtB with a shit solicitor who tried to insist we pay for the local authority (it was an ex LA flat) to carry out an asbestos survey of all the communal areas.

We firmly but politely refused and got on with the sale. No need for vindictiveness.

Gillypie23 · 17/05/2024 08:13

The wheelie bins are property of the council not yours personally.

Jc2001 · 17/05/2024 08:15

Gillypie23 · 17/05/2024 08:13

Well you do have to pay for them now with a lot of councils so not sure if that's legally true.

Not that I think people should take them with them if they move

Dancehalldarling · 17/05/2024 08:16

Hmm how much were the bins? I’ve changed my mind after reading your updates.

cat flap discount is relevant assuming it’s through a wall and not a door?

BirthdayRainbow · 17/05/2024 08:17

I suspect them asking that you leave the cat flap is because they know the kind of person you are. No one takes their cat flap with them either fyi. That would mean leaving a hole in the door..

FTPM1980 · 17/05/2024 08:19

SnakesAndArrows · 17/05/2024 07:34

If you move into a new property in my council and there’s no bin you have to buy one. If your bin is stolen/set on fire etc. you have to buy one. This is for all bins. They are not council property.

I will leave all the bins when I move - not least because the bins are different in the area I will be moving to - but if moving locally I would take my garden waste bin because that’s an extra paid for service and not everyone has a bin.

So replacements then....because someone took them when they shouldn't.

gingercat02 · 17/05/2024 08:19

I have never known anyone to take bins with them, but we have lived in 2 new builds, one we had to buy bins from the council, one they were provided.

Lenoftheglen · 17/05/2024 08:22

Ginmonkeyagain · 17/05/2024 06:29

You sound like the people my friend bought her flat from, they took the door handles, light bulbs and light switches. Their biggest dick move however was to try and charge her £500 for an ancient free standing fridge. She refused but said she'd be happy for them to leave it if they didn't want it.

Tne day she moved it she found it dumped in the back garden with the door half ripped off.

Wow! It is staggering how petty and unpleasant people can be. I would have felt so disappointed in your friend's shoes having had to be on the receiving end of such spiteful rotters. I hope she has cleansed the property of their toxic energy !!

Startingagainandagain · 17/05/2024 08:24

Weird...

As people have said the bins belong to the council and you should leave them at the house.

Mine also have the house number on it so it would be odd and impractical to take them somewhere else...

Seriously leave them at the house. If you are buying somewhere else the owners will also have left the bins in situ.

Blogswife · 17/05/2024 08:24

Wouldn’t dream of taking them .Whilst I understand that they belong to the seller , I assumed it was an unwritten rule to leave them - a bit like the light bulbs ?

SnakesAndArrows · 17/05/2024 08:26

FTPM1980 · 17/05/2024 08:19

So replacements then....because someone took them when they shouldn't.

The bins do not belong to the council. New builds do not have bins provided by the council. Bins belong to the householder.

Most sane people leave them, apart from the garden waste bins because most people don’t have them.

gingercat02 · 17/05/2024 08:27

Sellthishousetorhosecunts · 16/05/2024 23:44

I’m loving that taking my wheelie bin is unreasonable but popping a teaspoon of nans ashes underneath the floorboards to haunt the tight fuckers hasn’t picked up on…

That wouldn't bother me. The people in my mums old house don't know my dad's ashes are under the rose bush

Calliopespa · 17/05/2024 08:28

The bins have to stay.

Nan is a whole other issue …
