Our lovely FTB 🙄have requested wheelie bins be included after generous discount… many unreasonable requests met!

AIBU to leave dead nan ashes under the floorboards & take the wheel bins as a summer plunge pool for the kids 🫣

Let me blow your mind! You are incorrect!

Some councils charge for bins or you buy them from Amazon.

Councils differ in their policies and procedures!

Yes, councils charge now if you need a new bin for any reason.....like if the previous owner took it with them.
But they also delivered them for free to every house in their area when they first introduced them, and they require developers to pay for them for new builds. So every house had them and if people didn't take them with them still would.
Councils can only collect waste in containers that suit their collection vehicles so buying random bins from amazon seems stupid.

NotAmazonAlexa · 17/05/2024 08:30

We took ours....

It was a 360 rather than the normal 240 size though

KimberleyClark · 17/05/2024 08:32

Haven’t the bins got the house numbers on them and don’t they in that sense belong to the property?

BatshitCrazyWoman · 17/05/2024 08:33

I live in an area where you have to buy your own bin. And I've never had a wheelie bin (I live on my own, and have barely any non-recyclable rubbish)! They said, I would probably leave my dustbin (it has my house number and street name on it).

HouseofPies · 17/05/2024 08:33

I thought you might be in Ireland @Sellthishousetorhosecunts

Who takes wheelie bins when they move house? We do!

I remember moving ours in the boot of my car (one at a time) when we moved from rented to our new home about 10 miles away.

If you’re in rural Ireland, there’s no council bin collection services so you have to set up a contract with a private contractor for rubbish removal. Ours costs around €300 a year. Some people don’t bother and try to use other people’s bins, so a bin lock on the lid is essential.

The cottage across from us is used as a holiday home and they used to try and bung their crap in our bin when they went home. I wouldn’t have minded if they’d at least stuck to the rules and put the recycling in the correct bin instead of bags full of crap that poor DH had to empty out and sort, before he could put the bins out for collection!

The bins do not belong to the council. New builds do not have bins provided by the council. Bins belong to the householder.

Most sane people leave them, apart from the garden waste bins because most people don’t have them.

Where I live, and in every neighbouring council everyone has a green waste bin for food and garden waste, only flats don't have a large green wheelie bin....so I challenge your "most people"

And the councils here require developers to pay them to supply them for new builds which seems reasonable as its a new property that will need to be collected from. The payment covers admin and delivery not just the bin.

People move house every day.....can you imagine the extra work, and truck journeys, and money spent if everyone had to buy new bins (4 for us!) When they moved in?
My street is one council, the adjoining Street is a different council. We both have 4 bins each but different colours and different collection days (and all with council logo on) so putting your purple bin out when everyone else is on grey is going to cause confusion.

NOBODY takes their wheels bins OP, not in the UK anyway.

I live in the UK and we buy our own wheelie bins and take them with us when we move .

Was a bit of an eye opener to me as in England bins were supplied by the council and stayed with the house

user1471538283 · 17/05/2024 08:40

Our council for it's many, many faults provided bins to each house and I thought they were part of the sale so I left them whenever I've moved.

The new houses had bins left for me to use. You will end up with multiple bins if you take yours surely?

jannier · 17/05/2024 08:41

Panpastels · 16/05/2024 23:18

You are meant to leave the bins. I work for a council.

Never knew councils provided bins

BobnLen · 17/05/2024 08:43

Who cares about some old ashes anyway, they are for the relatives surely so do what you want with them.

Flyhigher · 17/05/2024 08:43

You sound quite difficult to be honest.
Never in a million years would you take bins with you.

TonTonMacoute · 17/05/2024 08:43

We live in Cornwall and wheelie bins are provided by the council, in fact everyone has just been given new bins and food waste caddies.

I would expect to leave them behind if we ever moved, along with all the other recycling stuff.

Catsinpartyhats · 17/05/2024 08:44

Take it!

We didn't and had to pay £50 to the council for a new one that, when it finally turned up weeks later, was half the size of the original bin.

BobnLen · 17/05/2024 08:45

Some councils have loads of bins, imagine having to load them on the removal van, taking up loads of room

BobnLen · 17/05/2024 08:46

I wonder if these bin charging councils are also the ones with the highest council tax

DragonGypsyDoris · 17/05/2024 08:46

Wheelieusefulbinlover · 16/05/2024 23:19

Not every council provides wheelie bins for free. Mine doesn't, we had to order ours for £50 each! I paid for them, they're mine to take with me like my garden furniture

If you move out of your local authority area, you might find that your old bins are incompatible with the lorries ... and that a reasonable previous occupant has left theirs for you anyway.

wellerhugs5 · 17/05/2024 08:51

I've never even considered what I would do but thinking about it, we paid a lot for an extra refuse bin and a larger recycling bin so I wouldn't want to fork out for them again if I moved. But otherwise, I'd certainly have left them with the property.

Nottherealslimshady · 17/05/2024 08:51

The bins, light bulbs, toilet seats stay. Also, taps, carpets, doors.

We had a seller say he was taking the boards up out the bloody loft once, pathetic.

Would this work only if the council in your new area used the same sort and size of bins?

Sellthishousetorhosecunts · 17/05/2024 07:29

So mumsnet has spoken, I’ll leave the bin. As people have suggested, we live in an area which do not provide bins and we’ve purchased it. Our new property doesn’t have one either.

maybe this is a massive drip feed but the discount is for a cat flap that can be seen in pics, seen in person and was negotiated after a survey (which didn’t show much!)

so maybe I’ll leave them nan & the cat.

So the discount is for a feature in the house that lowers its attractiveness to the buyer; pretty standard. Why do you think it's so significant that they found out about it before they asked to negotiate over it? How else could it have come about? You could have declined to sell if you thought you'd get so much more from someone else...

And for this you want to take the wheelie bins? Who the hell takes the wheelie bins with them when they move?

Is this your first house sale? When you bought the house, did the seller act as weirdly as this? What makes you think you're acting normally?

LittleGreenDragons · 16/05/2024 23:17

The wheelie bins stay with the property. They aren't yours, they belong to the council. Where do you do live if you believe they go with you?

This is what I was wondering too!

BaronessEllarawrosaurus · 17/05/2024 09:06

Our council cheats, the bins are provided free but you pay a hefty delivery fee to get one

ZippyZappyZoo · 17/05/2024 09:08

Our wheelie bins belong to the local council and remain with the property.

This is what I thought too! That they belong to the council and stay with the property. I have never taken bins with me and moved quite a few times!

Engaea · 17/05/2024 09:18

@HouseofPies yes I wondered that too.

I know it will blow some people on this thread's minds, but you can clean a bin.
