Our lovely FTB 🙄have requested wheelie bins be included after generous discount… many unreasonable requests met!

AIBU to leave dead nan ashes under the floorboards & take the wheel bins as a summer plunge pool for the kids 🫣

Surely people don’t take their wheelie bin when they move.. I would have just assumed that everyone leaves wheelie bins where they are!? I think it’s a bit petty to take the bins personally..

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 17/05/2024 07:34

We pay to have our garden waste removed by the council, £40 per year, but that doesn’t give us ownership of the bin.

I had to buy my garden waste bin from the council and there's a £65 a year fee to have it emptied. As far as I'm concerned that one is mine

Edit: whether I took it with me would depend on whether my new house was
under the same council and the attitude of the buyer.

You only pay for replacement or extra bins.
The initial bin was always free and should still be going strong.

If you move into a new property in my council and there’s no bin you have to buy one. If your bin is stolen/set on fire etc. you have to buy one. This is for all bins. They are not council property.

I will leave all the bins when I move - not least because the bins are different in the area I will be moving to - but if moving locally I would take my garden waste bin because that’s an extra paid for service and not everyone has a bin.

listsandbudgets · 17/05/2024 07:35

They are anxious FTB who dont know that the wheey bins should be left behind anyway as they belong to council not you. They're just trying to cover all the basics

mitogoshi · 17/05/2024 07:35

I've bought and sold multiple times and you always leave bins, they are supplied buy your council free in most places in England. You had the option to walk away if you felt that they were unreasonable.

Mercurial123 · 17/05/2024 07:37

Have you sold a house before because you're being weird. If you didn't like their offer, you would have refused?

PrincessTeaSet · 17/05/2024 07:38

So why agree to the cat flap discount? Presumably only for a couple of hundred quid anyway? It's not really fair to then remove all the useful stuff in revenge. You either agree the discount or you don't, surely. I don't really understand the issue here

ComtesseDeSpair · 17/05/2024 07:39

This thread has opened my eyes to problems I never knew anyone could have.

pilates · 17/05/2024 07:39

You need to let it go op but leave the bin.

diddl · 17/05/2024 07:40

If it's actually your bin then I guess you can do as you like!

How much do they cost?

PurpleChrayn · 17/05/2024 07:40

Were you honestly planning to schlep grotty bins with you? That's madness.

PurpleChrayn · 17/05/2024 07:41

senua · 16/05/2024 23:18

Leave the bins, as requested. But take the wheels.Grin

Or, even better, one wheel.😈

This is so ridiculously petty.

cuckyplunt · 17/05/2024 07:41

Wheelie bins belong to the house.. who wants the expense and hassle of moving a wheelie bin?

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 17/05/2024 07:41

StormingNorman · 17/05/2024 00:17

Don’t forget to dig up the plants either.

I dug up a plant from DM's garden when we sold after she died. I'm glad I did as it's still going strong in my garden years later and the new owners dug up all the plants in the front garden. There's a couple I wish I'd taken from the back garden as well as they dug up everything in the back garden as well (it sold again on Rightmove, I didn't go and check!)

crumbpet · 17/05/2024 07:42

How much was the cat flap discount?

mitogoshi · 17/05/2024 07:42

And strictly speaking, if it's in the photo or description unless specific marked as not included then it is. Our range cooker for instance was stated as not included.

Sellthishousetorhosecunts · 17/05/2024 07:29

So mumsnet has spoken, I’ll leave the bin. As people have suggested, we live in an area which do not provide bins and we’ve purchased it. Our new property doesn’t have one either.

maybe this is a massive drip feed but the discount is for a cat flap that can be seen in pics, seen in person and was negotiated after a survey (which didn’t show much!)

so maybe I’ll leave them nan & the cat.

They negotiated a discount for the cat flap?

Why on earth did you agree to that? It's not as if they would have pulled out of the sale if you'd just said no.

How big is the cat flap and has it caused structural issues?

I’d want a big discount for a cat flap, because I’d need to replace the door, and they aren’t cheap! Perfectly reasonable request.

In the areas where councils don't provide bins - either paid for in council taxes or for separate fee - are people just allowed to use any bin? How does the waste collection happen - here it is one person driving a truck that picks up the bins and empties them so all the bins have to have the same lid design.

I can answer this! We don't have wheelie bins here. Everyone mostly just uses either a normal/old fashioned round dustbin that they buy from a shop, or just puts the bags out on the kerb.

The collection is a team of about 4 people picking up bags (or struggling to get them out of the odd wheelie bin people have also bought from a shop) and chucking them manually in the back of the bin lorry. It's not a lorry that can pick up bins.

We took our bin when we moved, but all the recycling malarkey stayed with the house. We paid for an optional garden waste wheelie bin, (which does get picked up by the lorry) and a subscription to empty it. If we moved to the same council area I'd probably ask the council if we can take it and not have to pay the lump sum for the bin again.

My mum has a rose in a pot which she took from the garden of her childhood home after my grandparents' house was sold. It's already moved house once. I'm not sure whether she grew it from a cutting or dug up the whole plant. I think having that link to the house she was born and grew up in has helped her to come to terms with life moving on. She is also connected with the buyers on Facebook and really likes knowing that they are now raising their young family there.

NOBODY takes their wheels bins OP, not in the UK anyway.

Both times I moved the buyers took the bins! And one house we had to wait almost a year for new bins!

CatkinToadflax · 17/05/2024 07:50

Blimey, I hope the buyers aren’t expecting a fully fitted kitchen. 😶

Timeforanewnam · 17/05/2024 07:51

Well .

thats enough crazy for me today
