Our lovely FTB 🙄have requested wheelie bins be included after generous discount… many unreasonable requests met!

AIBU to leave dead nan ashes under the floorboards & take the wheel bins as a summer plunge pool for the kids 🫣

For everyone here saying NOBODY takes the bins with them ...let me shake your world ....As my name says...when I moved in this property a year ago (not new built at all ) ,the previous owners took all 4 bins that were here when viewing the house. So...there you have it...there are ppl out there that carry their stinky wheelies with them . 🤦‍♀️. Unless the neighbours have been pinching them (there is a suspicious amount of bins at some houses here tbh 🤣).

FTPM1980 · 17/05/2024 07:16

You only pay for replacement or extra bins.
The initial bin was always free and should still be going strong.

Viviennemary · 17/05/2024 07:19

Don't the wheelie bins technically belong to the council. Thats what I thought. They should be left behind. In any case different councils have different coloured bins. Would never occur to me somebody would take the wheelie bins with them. Mad.

Wtf - who pays money for bins and leaves them to greedy buyers!? I would rather ship them off to moody Doris 3 doors down than leave them full of our shit by donating the time, effort and money it took me to order them. Then Doris can tell them I thought they was cheeky fuckers and enjoy not composing her sour grapes

But they’re not greedy buyers are they? You’re a tight seller. You can see from the comments that the clear consensus is that you’re being unreasonable and you’re the cheeky fucker not them.

I sold to FTBs and decided to leave a few things behind we weren’t too fussed about to help them out. You’re trying to drain the property of absolutely anything you think might be worth a penny, whether you need it or not. Your new property will already have bloody wheelie bins because thankfully most people aren’t as tight as you!

newnamethanks · 17/05/2024 07:22

Don't forget to take all your light bulbs and last loo roll.

Fimilo · 17/05/2024 07:22

I didn't realise this was a thing. Wheelie bins are just left with the house why would you want to take them? Does your new house not have them? The thought of taking them gives me the boak

The wheelie bins if they were originally provided by the council go with the house surely? At least on our street, bins are always left.

Check local policy. We pay replacement fees but they still remain the property of the LA.

newmenewday · 17/05/2024 07:25

I've never taken bins with me when I've moved and I've never moved in and found the previous owner has taken them!

OP are you not going to arrive at your new place and find bins already there?!

realityhack · 17/05/2024 07:26

Why would they even care that your nan's ashes were under the floorboards? I wouldnt care about that-I dont think I've ever even looked under ours and I'd probably hoover them up thinking they were dust if I found it. It says way more about you that you'd leave your nan there than them. Nice that you're so respectful to your nan though with her ending up in a Dyson 🙄

gotmychristmasmiracle · 17/05/2024 07:26

I presume bins are owned by the seller, we paid £180 for ours but left them with the property.

I do however believe in karma..... they may have to sell one day and might be in the same boat as you.

seller2456 · 17/05/2024 07:26

Are you not planning on using your bin? The last bit about your kids using it is strange even if you weren't serious.

If bins get broken or nicked we have to pay to replace them. I paid for the black bin I currently have but wouldn't want to take a dirty bin.

Get your solicitor to ask the sellers solicitor if they are leaving their bins 😂😂

LongSinceGotUpAndGone · 17/05/2024 07:27

Council issued wheelie bins (including if you pay the council for extra bins) - must stay with the house
Self-purchased wheelie bins (i.e. from retailer, not the council) - you are of course free to take with you

Even if you pay the council for additional bins, e.g. a garden waste bin, you are paying for the servicing of the bin, not the bin itself, so it should stay and the council will take it back if the new occupants don't want it.

Nottodaythankyou123 · 17/05/2024 07:28

Isitovernow123 · 17/05/2024 06:49

Normally I’d totally agree with you but our council have told me I have to pay for a new one as the one at the current property is missing 🤦

I don’t think it covers the ownership of the bin though it’s the costs associated with delivering a new one. Most councils have small print that says you don’t own the bin, the fee charged covers admin costs of arranging/delivery etc

Chairmanmeoow · 17/05/2024 07:28

When we were FTB our sellers took the wheelie bins.
Our solicitor dealt with it - they had to either return them or pay for new ones, they paid!

ILikePistachios · 17/05/2024 07:28

MrsApplepants · 16/05/2024 23:17

Don’t wheely bins belong to the council and stay with the property?

Pretty sure this is true.

Even if not, leave them and just request new ones for the new property

Sellthishousetorhosecunts · 17/05/2024 07:29

So mumsnet has spoken, I’ll leave the bin. As people have suggested, we live in an area which do not provide bins and we’ve purchased it. Our new property doesn’t have one either.

maybe this is a massive drip feed but the discount is for a cat flap that can be seen in pics, seen in person and was negotiated after a survey (which didn’t show much!)

so maybe I’ll leave them nan & the cat.

You're being massively unreasonable. I've moved a few times, and you leave behind the bins! Unless you paid for a second bin, then take the spare.

This 100%

BirthdayRainbow · 17/05/2024 07:31

Are you serious?

No one said about the ashes as that's ridiculous and irrelevant.

The bins stay, the light bulbs stay.

Citrusandginger · 17/05/2024 07:31

Needmorelego · 16/05/2024 23:29

I do remember passing a house on my way to work many years back that had one with "Property of Bradford City Council" printed on it always sat out by the front door.
I didn't live in Bradford 😂

That reminds me of the time I was cleaning a hospital bed between patients. The pillow was marked QE2 Mortuary. Not only was the ward very obviously not the mortuary, but the hospital wasn’t the QE2.

Let me blow your mind! You are incorrect!

Some councils charge for bins or you buy them from Amazon.

Councils differ in their policies and procedures!

TellMeWhoTheVillainsAre · 17/05/2024 07:33

Would you not contact the council and ask them what the procedure is?

Mostlyoblivious · 17/05/2024 07:33

You don’t have to sell to them if you feel this strongly

Boogiemam · 17/05/2024 07:33

I read your OP thinking you were laughing at how daft a request was to leave the wheelie bins, because what dickhead loads stinking, filthy, full of rubbish bins into a van and moves house with them??
Oh, that would be you.

What is missing in your life that THIS is how you passive aggressively try and "get even" with those who have wronged you? (Even though you could have said no to the negotiation in price).
