Our lovely FTB 🙄have requested wheelie bins be included after generous discount… many unreasonable requests met!

AIBU to leave dead nan ashes under the floorboards & take the wheel bins as a summer plunge pool for the kids 🫣

So mumsnet has spoken, I’ll leave the bin. As people have suggested, we live in an area which do not provide bins and we’ve purchased it. Our new property doesn’t have one either.

maybe this is a massive drip feed but the discount is for a cat flap that can be seen in pics, seen in person and was negotiated after a survey (which didn’t show much!)

so maybe I’ll leave them nan & the cat.

Why did you give them a discount for a cat flap?

SoundTheSirens · 17/05/2024 09:20

This is missing the point of the OP, but it makes me sad how normalised accepting less for more has become. Council tax has gone up and up and up, higher than inflation in some cases (certainly in previous years when inflation was lower) yet many areas are now expected to either buy their own bins or pay an additional fee for one of the services the council tax is purported to cover. And this is on top of reduced service - fortnightly collections instead of weekly.

We're going so backwards in our living standards, this is just one tiny example among many 😔

twoshedsjackson · 17/05/2024 09:26

Like many of my neighbours, I have marked my wheelie bins with number stickers, to make retrieving them after collection day easier - not much use at a different address.
You might even find that the "colour code" is different at your new home; this is certainly true of the London borough adjacent to mine.
And as many PP's have pointed out, they are commonly the property of your local council.

Austrocock · 17/05/2024 09:27

Why on earth did you give them a discount for the cat flap and how much was the discount??
Should have told them to jog on at that point.

As for the bins. The bins stay where they are. Why the fuck would you want to move bins with you in a removal van anyway? Bizarre. I've never taken bins with me ever.

Needmorelego · 17/05/2024 09:27

@Ginmonkeyagain I know someone who found the freezer had been buried in the back garden when they moved in - complete with some food still in it 😱

Growlybear83 · 17/05/2024 09:29

When I sold my late mums house last year, the bins were included on the long list of items that I had to say were being left or taken in the pre contract enquiries along with light bulbs and other fixtures and fittings, and I assumed that was standard.

During the last few months that my mum was at home, I had asked the council to remove all of her wheelie bins except for the general refuse one because she had severe dementia and couldn't understand what went in which bin and the refuse collectors understandably wouldn't empty the recycling bins when they were full of mouldy food. The solicitor told me that I should get the council to replace the bins that had been taken away when the sale was completed, which of course I did.

Panama2 · 17/05/2024 09:32

The only bin we took was the garden waste bin as we have to pay extra for that to be emptied and the bin is provided within that cost.

So new owners would need to opt in to the garden waste service and be provided with a bin

BatshitCrazyWoman · 17/05/2024 09:33

My council doesn't encourage wheelie bins, either. All bins are emptied into huge wheelie bins that fit on the back of the lorry.

Hilarious 🤣 obviously you leave the wheelie bins 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Who the fuck takes wheelie bins with them when they move?

Probably the same weirdos who pay to get them cleaned, I guess”

Hi @Magnastorm , Weirdo in chief here. We’re moving soon and arranging to have the bins cleaned before new owners take them over. Too ashamed to leave them as they are 😁

diddl · 17/05/2024 09:35

Tbh if there aren't any where you are moving to why not take them or sell them to the buyer?

Here they belong to the house.

If that's not the case with you them you don't have to leave them.

diddl · 17/05/2024 09:36

TheGlitterFairy · 17/05/2024 09:33

Hilarious 🤣 obviously you leave the wheelie bins 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Why is it obvious if Op bought them & there aren't any where she is moving to?

Blondeshavemorefun · 17/05/2024 09:42

How weird. Council usually provide bins. That’s what CT goes towards

What area do you live in that doesn’t provide bins ?

Often my food bin gets dumped by dustbin people by road and found smashed /run over

I just email council and they send another one free

Gdn1 · 17/05/2024 09:43

Bins belong to the council. You leave them when you move and get others in your new home.

Before councils obtained wheelie bins, you took your bin with you when moving

Needmorelego · 17/05/2024 09:43

@BatshitCrazyWoman I live near Bromley Borough and know a few folks that live that side of the border.
Yes - no bins provided.
I'm gonna be honest but the streets often look a right dump with bin bags everywhere.
It's really weird they haven't entered the 21st Century of rubbish collection 😂

Tangled123 · 17/05/2024 09:44

The people we bought our house from took the wheelie bins, curtain poles and a device connecting the gas cooker to gas cylinders. They probably expected us to buy them off them for more money, but f that. I’d be tempted to take at least the bins if we moved, as we had to pay the council for them, but probably wouldn’t if our new house already had bins.

SeismicSalad · 17/05/2024 09:45

Boogiemam · 17/05/2024 07:33

I read your OP thinking you were laughing at how daft a request was to leave the wheelie bins, because what dickhead loads stinking, filthy, full of rubbish bins into a van and moves house with them??
Oh, that would be you.

What is missing in your life that THIS is how you passive aggressively try and "get even" with those who have wronged you? (Even though you could have said no to the negotiation in price).

Not just take them but use them as “a summer plunge pool for the kids” - is everyone overlooking that part? 😂😂😂

silverfullmoon · 17/05/2024 09:46

I dont think leaving your grans ashes is going to be the punishment you think it is. I'd just chuck them in the bin. Surely the only one here being disrespected is your granny?!

Also, who would want to use a bin as a plunge pool vomit nothing more relaxing than marinating in used tea bags, bin juice and old potato peeling slime 😂

badatdecisions · 17/05/2024 09:48

Magnastorm · 16/05/2024 23:22

Who the fuck takes wheelie bins with them when they move?

Probably the same weirdos who pay to get them cleaned, I guess.

I pay to get mine cleaned monthly and I wouldn't take them with me 😂

Iamnotalemming · 17/05/2024 09:51

You need to leave or take whatever you've agreed to leave and take on your Fixtures and Fittings Form (assuming you're in the UK).

If your buyers have queried something on the form and you don't like it just say no? If you had to buy them and can use them where you're going explain that. They are likely to be of the don't ask don't get school of thought. They are unlikely to pull out of the purchase over some bins.

Taking the lightbulbs and not leaving a single loo roll is petty. Don't be that seller. And leaving your Nan's ashes is plain weird.

Conveyancing is horribly stressful. It will be over soon. Good luck.

sueelleker · 17/05/2024 09:52

Unless they're extra ones that you've bought, aren't wheelie bins council property?

Mistymountain · 17/05/2024 09:54

I thought the wheelie bins belonged to the council? We pay £50 a year for ours.

Shan5474 · 17/05/2024 09:56

How much was the discount for the cat flap? Surely you could’ve just said no?? I’d prefer to pay £40 for a new bin than put my gross bin in a removal van with my belongings. How much have you pissed off the seller of your new house that they’re taking their bins with them too???

Nanny0gg · 17/05/2024 10:01

Sellthishousetorhosecunts · 16/05/2024 23:44

I’m loving that taking my wheelie bin is unreasonable but popping a teaspoon of nans ashes underneath the floorboards to haunt the tight fuckers hasn’t picked up on…

Why would you take them? They're not yours, they're the council's!

How many would you need at your new house?

Fr7fr6 · 17/05/2024 10:01

I've never heard of someone taking their wheelie bins with them. I thought they belonged to your local council.
