Mum screaming F you at another car outside nursery

I was just picking up my child when I saw another mum exit the nursery with her child.

They were going to a car parked on the road and there was an altercation with another car. The mum was putting her child into her seat and a woman in a car that was passing them, started shouting at the mum for putting her child in her seat in the road.

The mum then proceeded to shout 'F You ' twice to the lady, who then drove off. The mum then looked and me and said sorry and drove off.

AIBU to think this is totally unacceptable outside of a nursery ? Thankfully my child didn't hear, but her child did !

We've received emails before about parents parking on double yellows outside and residents complaining. I'm sure they'll send out an email reminding people to mind how they behave as it's a residential street.

You're changing the world! 🥰

People saying it's not an offence to swear in public...well I'm afraid it is an offence to shout and swear at another person in public and if anyone is harassed, alarmed or distressed. It's called a public order offence.

PattyDuckface · 17/05/2024 15:31

There's no law to protect us from hearing Mums shouting "Fuck You!"

I know... awful right?

To be honest, it could be a public order offence if the recipient felt harassed or alarmed.

But the one who was harassed was the one who swore.

elephantknees · 17/05/2024 15:33

I think you should report the disgraceful behaviour to the police Hyacinth. 🤔

Riversideandrelax · 17/05/2024 15:34

It's just words. Don't make a big deal about it and your DC won't either.

liveforsummer · 17/05/2024 15:34

@EnglishBluebell my answer was directly related to the fact the nursery had sent out emails regarding parents irking on yellow lines. Better to stick to the context and start your own thread to discuss your issue

She may have 'felt' harassed by circumstances but she wasn't being verbally abused by another, causing harassment.

liveforsummer · 17/05/2024 15:34

@ThisNoisyTealLurker but they both shouted, and the one sworn at started it.

My point is not that the op should report anyone or even speak to the school, that's up to her. My point is that lots of people are saying it's not against the law to swear and shout in public, but it actually is.

Then I guess OP should ring the police 😂

When I had young twins, I just put both seats in the back of the car then got into the front and leaned over the back and positioned and secured them in.

I lived on a main busy road and saw people have close calls which made me think, extra work for me is better than risking mine or my child's life especially when people have more distractions than ever.

Some people's lack of awareness, scares me. I was coming round a bend and a woman was crouched down cleaning her car wheels in the road, this was a 40mph road and thought if got cramp, her head would be a watermelon under my car.

Mine are both rear facing so without some serious acrobatics it just wouldn’t work.
