To think friends decor is gross?

Stayed at a friends house this weekend with mutual friends and they raved about how nice her living room is and I was baffled.

It’s an extremely dark grey with one wall with equally dark grey wallpaper. Brown sofas and a yellow armchair. Huge jar with pampas grass. Grey carpet with a cream rug. Black plastic tv stand, concrete side tables.

She must think my deco is gross and shit. But I genuinely was so baffled by their reaction.

How very dare you! I put a lot of thought into that room. That's the last time I invite YOU round ⁉️

Who has pampas grass in 2024?

I'd be growing swathes of the stuff if it kept you away, love

GoingUpUpUp · 16/05/2024 11:59

Pampas grass is vases is trendy atm.

Calling her decor gross is just plain unkind. Sometimes you can white lie ‘oh it’s lovely!’ is fine for someone else’s home decor choices. You don’t have to live there and if she likes it that’s all that matters.

Id be very hurt if I was her and came across this thread, totally unnecessary.

SphincterSaysWhat · 16/05/2024 12:00

Don't be mean, OP.

My go to line when I don’t like someone else’s things (if I am asked, coz if I’m not asked I won’t say) is “oh it’s nice but it’s not really my style. But the important thing is that YOU like it”.

We all have different style and tastes and thank goodness for it, or it would be a dull world indeed.

This isn’t the ‘nice’ response you think it is! It’s properly snide.

I strongly suspect you think that makes you sound better than it does.

theemmadilemma · 16/05/2024 12:17

Pampass grass has been a huge trend again in interiors. Though probably on it's way out again soon.

People should just have what them makes them happy. I don't really get the whole decorate every couple of years to follow trends shit.

Yes. Patronising much?

DinnaeFashYersel · 16/05/2024 12:20

I think your friends decor sounds rather nice.

OneTC · 16/05/2024 12:21

Please post a pic of your own living room OP. Could do with a laugh

childlessandfree · 16/05/2024 12:39

Well your not very nice to slag her or her home off op.
Her living room sounds nice better than a shit load of clutter and crap in it. Maybe you feel jealous because your home is a mess.
TBH you would hate my home every room is white with marble black floor nothing on show for you to look at.
Im an extreme minimalist my home looks empty.
Your friend has more in her front room than me i have 2 tub chairs and a recliner one small round coffee table and and 1 small shelve with a green plant on it.
I think your jealous.

I hope you also pat them on the head while saying this 😜

Better than saying “aww at least you tried” 🤣🫣

ThatPeachSnake · 16/05/2024 13:12

You sound like a mean girl.

Maia77 · 16/05/2024 13:46

I love that kind of decor.

MrsSunshine2b · 16/05/2024 13:49

I mean it sounds disgusting, but my living room is bright turquoise with accent walls in lemur print wallpaper and my bedroom has burgundy fairies stencilled on the walls so I'm not in a position to judge other people's unique taste in home decor.

Grammarnut · 16/05/2024 13:49

Sounds very fashionable. Grey and concrete are in. Yellow is a good contrasting colour to grey. Not what I would have, but tastes differ, unsurprisingly.

I like the sound of that!

Who has pampas grass in 2024?

The person who mistakenly thinks you’re her friend.

My sitting room has a decoupaged ceiling with an original Victorian ceiling rose painted in purple, red, silver and metallic green. Cornice is purple, walls crimsom. I am entirely aware it is some people's nightmare (along with the Alma Tadema and Botticelli prints and medieval-style tapestry), but I am not expecting everyone to like it. Nor would I expect them to criticise - and nor would I criticise someone else's decor. Tastes differ, thank goodness, or the world would be a dull place.

JuiceBoxJuggler · 16/05/2024 13:55

Wow, entitled.

You are being unreasonable.

LizTruss · 16/05/2024 14:00

Look, I don't care.
I know that wallpaper was £840 a roll but it reminded me too much of HIM, and her. So yes, I painted over it.

The yellow chair was a welcome gift from some dignitary overseas. I can't remember where - Taiwan, Rwanda, Turkey, Australia - somewhere anyway.

I was planning to get a stretch nylon cover from Plumbs for it. Actually I never got round to even sitting in it - I wasn't there long enough! 😂

Who has pampas grass in 2024?

People who like it, and who aren't insecure enough that they need to follow other people's fashions.

OneLemonOrca · 16/05/2024 14:02

I wish you’d attached a photo

I know it would be outing so you probably don't want to, but if you didn't mind sharing a pic I'd really love to see it.
