To think friends decor is gross?

Stayed at a friends house this weekend with mutual friends and they raved about how nice her living room is and I was baffled.

It’s an extremely dark grey with one wall with equally dark grey wallpaper. Brown sofas and a yellow armchair. Huge jar with pampas grass. Grey carpet with a cream rug. Black plastic tv stand, concrete side tables.

She must think my deco is gross and shit. But I genuinely was so baffled by their reaction.

So it basically looks like this? I thought Pampas grass was on trend - I see it in every florist I walk past

I think that looks great and yes pampas grass is on trend.

Obviously OP thought her friend was behind on the latest trends but it’s actually OP.

I’m shocked how a ‘friend’ could be so judgemental and rude about another friend.

I used to just have a single mattress on the floor, which was my bed and a place for friends to sit when they came over.

I couldn’t afford anything else for a while and definitely couldn’t afford to paint the walls or decorate in any sort of way because I was skint, but my friends didn’t care or judge me because that’s not what friends do.

That room doesn’t sound like the usual trend for boring grey though.

The OP described a lot of grey (walls and carpet), and I'm just pointing out that grey is ever popular. Without pictures, it's impossible to determine if we'd personally consider the lounge in question as boring or not.

fuckssaaaaake · 16/05/2024 07:26

I hate the internet today

Lourdes12 · 16/05/2024 07:26

That type of decor is just 🤮

crumbpet · 16/05/2024 07:28

Come on then... post a picture of your house so we can judge it

Lourdes12 · 16/05/2024 07:29

People with this decor are just jumping on the cheap current trend that you see everywhere. I don’t know what’s worse, grey carpets or grey washed wooden floors

Who has pampas grass in 2024?

Who wants to tell her?

😂😂😂

IsadoraQuagmire · 16/05/2024 07:44

On the very slight off-chance that this is real; YANBU to think it's horrible, I would too. But YABU to be astonished that people have different tastes.

BusyMummy001 · 16/05/2024 07:50

You’d hate my place then. Lots of rooms with grey or cream as the base and a striking contrasting colour - and yes, my lounge has grey and yellow tones too.

Who has pampas grass in 2024?

I love pampas grass- it grows along the seafront in huge swathes at South Shields and it's beautiful. YABVU.

Me too. Its gorgeous. Far prettier and nicer to look at than those stupid trendy glittery twigs in pots which seem to be fashionable now. Why on earth do we have to follow trends?- why cant we just get stuff we actually, you know, like.

That's because everything is bizarre, odd and vile.

Whatever she thinks of your decor, she hasn't posted a thread about it on a busy website for strangers to slag it off, so...

Exactly.

Who wants to tell her?

Thats the other benefit of pampas grass- it makes people super friendly, you should get some OP and see what happens...

😄

I do wish Mumsnetters would find a word to mean "person I spend time with but actually despise and will take any opportunity to slag off publicly". Because "friend" means something else entirely.

Precisely this. It's strange the way some people on here speak about so-called friends.

5foot5 · 15/05/2024 21:07

I think it has to be growing in the garden.
I don't get the upside down pineapple reference

The upside down pineapple is definitely a thing. Maybe more American though.

butterpuffed · 16/05/2024 08:11

Who has pampas grass in 2024?

People who don't realise OP isn't a friend 😕

Cantabulous · 16/05/2024 08:26

There’s no harm in thinking other people’s taste is gross, you can think what you like. But it stops there: thinking. Not telling, or mocking, or criticising, or broadcasting.

PoppyCherryDog · 16/05/2024 08:31

lightsandtunnels · 15/05/2024 21:08

Really? Some friend you are OP coming on MN to slag off your friend's decor. Everyone else liked it so perhaps it is you with bad taste! Either way it's none of your business is it.

This

Its just different taste not bad taste

BoudiccaOfSuburbia · 16/05/2024 08:37

I really like the sound of the concrete coffee table.

If only I had the means to live in the spacious minimalist warehouse apartment to support such an item.

But the pampas grass can get in the sea.

And would my friends take to MN to slag me off? Should I play it safe from Next?

Your friend does. I expect she'll be an ex friend if she ever finds out about your mean spirited post.

Who has pampas grass in 2024?

People who are confident to have what they like and who don’t give a fuck what is or isn’t in fashion.

People like me. I also have 80s style black furniture and I don’t care what anyone thinks.

Engaea · 16/05/2024 08:50

I don't care about fashion but that sounds ugly... she should do what she wants but people are also allowed to not like it.
