Nearly cried at the change in weather

I felt so much better at the end of last week with the sunshine and even this morning was happy hanging the washing out . Until the rain set in again and I checked the long term forecast and it's to stay showery and under .20 degrees until mid June now. Can't help it. Just feel really depressed. I was so happy pottering in the garden and getting a bit of sun. Anyone else struggling.

I agree op but at the moment I'm happy with the weather due to dd sitting exams.

I moved to the U.K. from a tropical country and I genuinely dislike the heat. My ideal temperature is around 20. So, I didn’t like the weather at all this weekend, and the forecast for the next few days works for me.

It’s not a major factor in my life, though. It’s always fascinated me just how deeply the British seem to care and have strong feelings about the weather. It’s not really something I’d encountered before I moved here.

I’m from a hot country too, I hate cold weather and most days I do wonder what compelled me to move here! The reason Brits are always talking about the weather is because of how grey and wet it is all the time. In a lot of countries like mine and I’m assuming your tropical country we are guaranteed beautiful hot springs & summers, even very warm autumn and winters. Not just one day or one week but months and months. It’s not like that here and good hot sunny days are few and far between and definitely not guaranteed.

Yabu.

It's only the middle of spring. The last year has been so warm, we barely even had a winter. It's scary by how much all the records have been broken. It's crazy that yesterday it was 27degrees in parts of the country.

I don't think having the odd hot May Day is unusual at all. I'm sure I remember several over the years I've been alive.

It's not even so much the heat I crave - let's face it, in most of the uk it's not been that warm yet really. It's the blue skies, and the sight of the sun.

And the fact that it just wasn't grey and wet for a change!

greengreyblue · 14/05/2024 08:06

A hot week in May not a whole month.

anunlikelyseahorse · 14/05/2024 08:16

I love all the seasons, however the last few years we seem to have gone from winter temps straight to summer temps with no time to acclimatise, and physiologically my body doesn't seem to appreciate the jumps in 10+ degrees!

Oh I felt so ill with the heat!

I love warm / sunny weather but many people don´t do well with heat, unfortunately. Heat stress is especially problematic for the elderly, people with certain pre-existing conditions etc.

It´s one reason I was so pleased with the ECtHR´s decision in the case brought by the KlimaSeniorinnen (Climate seniors) from Switzerland!! https://www.reuters.com/world/europe/who-are-elderly-swiss-women-behind-landmark-climate-court-case-win-2024-04-09/#:~:text=April%209%20(Reuters)%20%2D%20The,risk%20of%20dying%20during%20heatwaves.

Be kind to yourself (and consider a check-up if the symptoms are severe or debilitating.).

People complaining about the “heat” must be trolling 😁😁😁

25c is about my optimum but I loved it. Sun on my face at last!

I know, it's really hard. I always say summer never really gets going until after midsummer's day weirdly

That would be because the 21st of June is actually the first day of summer 😅 It's still spring up until that point. Summer then runs until the 21st of September.

I was quite sad putting the rain covers on my garden furniture that I’d only just got out for precisely 3 days. But I remain (foolishly) optimistic the warm weather will return. I agree, it does make such a difference.

This has just made me realise I didn’t my covers on, and now everything is wet.

TheBirdintheCave · 14/05/2024 08:31

@MidnightPatrol We just let ours get wet in the spring/summer but put the cushions in their bags in the shed. I can't be bothered unfolding the rain cover every other day just in case it rains 😅

Oh no! I only remembered as it just started spitting yesterday. Bloody annoying- I was enjoying my morning coffees outside in the sun!

Iaskedyouthrice · 14/05/2024 08:40

I feel the same OP. I love how we automatically move outside when it's warm in this house. I like listening to other people (even children 😋) enjoying their gardens. I like seeing so many people out and about enjoying the lovely weather, stopping and having a natter with rarely seen neighbours. Love seeing people wearing brighter colours. I enjoy going to work more when it's warmer and how everything moves outside there too and it becomes more lively.

Just a solid week of sun will do 🤞

RampantIvy · 14/05/2024 08:58

I prefer wearing summer clothes. It takes less time to leave the house. Footwear on and I'm ready to go. No putting on waterproofs, boots, hats etc.

childlessandfree · 14/05/2024 09:01

Had a bit of a down pour last night loved it i sleep like a log.
Im a fan of winter and all weather that mum net hates.
Wind rain showers storms fog frost etc.
Not a fan of the sun.

So you are perfectly OK with higher food prices this year then because this weather has affected the farmers, not only in this country but in parts of Germany and France? But hey, as long as you are OK with wet weather then it won't matter.

Im ok with it nothing i can do about it either.
Im a autumn & winter fan always have been.
Not everyone is a fan of summer sun or heat.

BabySnarkDoDoo · 14/05/2024 09:16

I definitely feel much better when the sun is out and seem to have struggled with SAD pretty badly the past couple of winters. Although I have a lot more weeding to get done in the garden, so part of me hopes we get a few rainy days whilst I'm at work so the soil doesn't dry out too much.

thecatsthecats · 14/05/2024 09:30

I hate the heat, and managing a baby in the heat too, but couldn't we compromise on 18 degrees, a light breeze and showers between 2-4am every other day to keep everything growing nicely?

make it 23 degrees and you’re on

I see your offer and counter an ongoing cycle of 23-20-18-20-18 to allow the house to cool off so the baby sleeps.

There’s an awful lot of lockdown/rain/huddling under blanket lovers on here. 😳

My hayfever and rosacea are both grateful for a bit of a break from the sun, heat and dryness.
