Nearly cried at the change in weather

I felt so much better at the end of last week with the sunshine and even this morning was happy hanging the washing out . Until the rain set in again and I checked the long term forecast and it's to stay showery and under .20 degrees until mid June now. Can't help it. Just feel really depressed. I was so happy pottering in the garden and getting a bit of sun. Anyone else struggling.

But it hasn't been cloudy but breezy. Apart from the last week it has been pissing it down every single day.

People complaining about the “heat” must be trolling 😁😁😁

@MyFirstLittlePony

I was at a dog show yesterday, it was FAR too hot for the dogs (I didn't have one, if had, I'd have taken it home) when zi got back to my car ( which is usually very accurate, it was showing 35° it reads the outside air not the inside or windscreen). I don't believe it was far off. Obviously the field is in a sheltered spot (not a breath of wind) open to the blazing sun etc so an isolated temperature, rather than a local area one. I forgot to look at it when I got home, but my house thermometer said 28°

Sorry if you don't believe me, but I'm far from a troll.

OldTinHat · 14/05/2024 00:33

I'm a bit odd because I loathe long days, sunshine and heat.

I was so happy to see the rain today and it being a bit darker.

I'm counting down to midsummer and then we can head back to jumpers, boots, candles, no pressure to go out or have people to stay.

TheUsualChaos · 14/05/2024 00:38

It's getting me down too. Apart from the weekend just gone, just about all my time off work has been cold and wet for the best part of 8 months! Every weeks annual leave I've had has been wet, even in August. This weekend made me realise I'd almost forgotten what nice weather feels like. Not to mention how shit it has been for the DC, school holidays have just been day after day of rain.
The cold and torrential rain today has made me have this feeling of impending doom that this summer is going to go the same way. Like we probably have a tiny window of nice weather and then back to endless months of rain 😩 We so need a decent summer this year!

ShyPoet · 14/05/2024 00:57

@OldTinHat Most people like going outside the house.

oakleaffy · 14/05/2024 02:56

@spanieleyes22 Not being unreasonable...I developed the most horrendous assumed norovirus just as I was about to be leaving for Badminton horse trials, so spent two days in bed /on loo with a bucket for company missing the fun and nice weather.
Poor dog too...she missed out and had to stay in the garden/house.
I too feel very sad about missing a break in the weather.

garlictwist · 14/05/2024 05:03

I feel the same. I think it's cruel for it to turn nice and give us a glimpse of what could be and then fuck off again. Mentally it's almost easier if it just stayed crap all the time.

UnpickThePockets · 14/05/2024 05:53

To wake up this morning to the pissing rain is so depressing.

I am so over this shite weather.

Elphamouche · 14/05/2024 05:58

I’m relieved, with a 7 week old baby the weekend was really hard. Couldn’t cool our room below 26 degrees.

I’m happy for blue skies and sun, just without the heat please! Everyone else is welcome to it, just where I am needs to stay cooler 😂

Haruka · 14/05/2024 06:12

I had a swarm of bees arrive in my walls in the nice weather, so I am now grateful for the rain because it means they're less likely to get huge amounts of pollen in to expand their hive until they can be removed. Spoiled the few nice days we've had because I couldn't get out in the garden.

Having said that, YANBU. I hate the rain and the bleak greyness that dominated most of last and this year and I am grateful we've had a bit of sunshine because it massively improved my mood.

Shiningout · 14/05/2024 06:20

I totally agree it's shit that it's gone back miserable and I hate it, especially trying to entertain a 5 year old on the weekends etc. However I don't think it's hot water bottle weather by any stretch 🤣🤣🤣😭

Thegreatgiginthesky · 14/05/2024 06:25

At least for once the nice weather was at the weekend. I don't mind the rain so much when I am working. Fingers crossed for next weekend.

Jifmicroliquid · 14/05/2024 06:45

I feel you OP. I feel so much bette, both mentally and physically, with a bit of sunshine. I don’t even need it too warm, just sunny.
It’s pouring down with rain again today and I just feel so fed up.

RampantIvy · 14/05/2024 06:49

I feel for the farmers and anyone who works outside.

Food prices are going to rocket because the farmers haven't been able to do any planting at the right time.

But hey, I'm sure the rain lovers won't mind.

It was a joy to be able to get the grass cut and line dry my washing and even more of a joy to enjoy a day at the seaside.

greengreyblue · 14/05/2024 06:53

It was a lovely week of nice weather and it will be back. I planted lots of new plants so I’m happy for a bit of rain to help them and save my daily watering! Look for the silver lining. The forecast this week is different to what they said last week. If you like good weather I’d avoid Wales for for your hols in future.

greengreyblue · 14/05/2024 06:56

Also think some of you have forgotten that you live in the U.K. We have never had great spring/summers. This is standard. Last week was out of the norm for May. It’s still spring.

Theedgeoftheabyss · 14/05/2024 06:56

Climate change. This is it.

Exactly this. We are on a farm and the weather has a massive impact to the ability to plant.

I just don’t think the majority of ordinary people understand how much of an impact our new found British weather (ie no real seasons, just one long wet year that happens to be warmer for a few months from May-September)

Managing land in permanent wet conditions is a nightmare.

AStrawberryTart · 13/05/2024 21:23

Probably the twinkly lights, snuggled under blankets drinking hot chocolate brigade who love the dark wet cold weather 😂

To be fair, I like that....in winter not all bloody year round! I like seasons, this never-ending grey, wet, windy weather is so depressing 😢

You never know though, it can suddenly change.

Vettrianofan · 14/05/2024 07:10

crumbpet · 13/05/2024 21:16

Oh I felt so ill with the heat!

Same. Had to stay indoors during Saturday, it was too hot for me. Anything over 16C and I can't cope. No, I am not joking.

Vettrianofan · 14/05/2024 07:12

DH had the DC at Portobello where half of Scotland seemed to be on Saturday 🤣 my idea of hell but they all had a great time whilst I was indoors studying.

FoxRedPuppy · 13/05/2024 21:21

It’s 17 degrees in Yorkshire, not exactly hot water bottle weather!

I’ve enjoyed the sunshine, but forecasts are only really useful a few days in advance

Been 23 degrees in my part of Yorkshire. Hot enough for the kids to have ice lollies.

Springchickenonion · 14/05/2024 07:26

I'm with you @spanieleyes22 I was so happy when the sun was out. My washing was actually drying. I woke up to cold wet garden and feel quite depressed again.

RampantIvy · 14/05/2024 07:28

Just how hot was it where the nice weather haters were?

I was on the North East Coast at the weekend. Saturday was bright, but high teens temperature wise. Sunday morning the fog horn was booming.

Drove back to a lovely 25 degrees in South Yorkshire on Sunday. Yesterday was 19 degrees.

I'm still wearing wellies to walk the dogs. The fields are still absolutely sodden, and with mud magnet spaniels, I'm so sick of bathing their legs and underbellies every single time we go out. I actually think I'm starting to get foot rot....

I can't imagine walking in trainers ever again tbh.

It’s this 👆 being a dog owner, the months of relentless rain we’ve had has sent me over the edge! It was so nice last week not having to wash her all the time!
