Nearly cried at the change in weather

I felt so much better at the end of last week with the sunshine and even this morning was happy hanging the washing out . Until the rain set in again and I checked the long term forecast and it's to stay showery and under .20 degrees until mid June now. Can't help it. Just feel really depressed. I was so happy pottering in the garden and getting a bit of sun. Anyone else struggling.

I've been out running at 7 in the lovely warm sunshine before my 9-hour stint at a desk. Makes me feel better, eat better, sleep better. Now back to the muggy greyness. Missing you already sun Sad

MferMonsterSearchingForRedemption · 13/05/2024 22:21

I have spent the last three days in the sun. It has been beautiful. My mood improved, I felt more healthy and I loved every minute. It hasn't exactly been hot, but in the sun it's been lovely enough to sit outside all day.

I'm gutted it is leaving us so soon. The last few days have really brought home how awful the weather has been for so long and what we are actually missing.

Muchtoomuchtodo · 13/05/2024 22:25

Warm but not too hot, with a bit of rain to dampen the pollen down is just right for all the kids sitting exams atm!

13 degrees and pissing down all day is a bit too much though!

Proudbitch · 13/05/2024 22:33

I’m genuinely envious of all the people whose depression goes away and mood improves with just a bit of sunshine.

Aria999 · 13/05/2024 22:34

You might have seasonal affective disorder. Could try a daylight lamp!

PotholesAnonymous · 13/05/2024 22:35

It was too hot here the last 4 days. I felt a bit unwell - like it was too hot too quick. I couldn't hang about in it. Loads of people got sunburnt.

Todays sea mist and cool breeze was very nice indeed.

chillidoritto · 13/05/2024 22:37

The symbol says rain even though there might only be 30% risk. That means there’s a 70% chance that it won’t. It’s impossible to predict the weather accurately more than a few days in advance! My app says it’s going to be a decent weekend!

Oh trust me, mine doesn't go away. It's just a nice treat which makes life seem not quite so hard for a short time.

Probably the twinkly lights, snuggled under blankets drinking hot chocolate brigade who love the dark wet cold weather 😂

I fantasize about their death!

paddyclampofthethirdkind · 13/05/2024 22:45

The weather can do what it wants when I’m stuck in a classroom with teenagers preparing for exams! Tomorrow is looking like the worst day, later in the week isn’t that bad. Where I live, the forecast for the weekend we’ve just had kept changing - turned out nice in the end though!

That’s not what the percentages mean- it’s the estimated percentage of the region you’re looking at that will have rainfall. So tomorrow at least 80% of my local area is going to get some rain.

It depends what app you use. Mine is the percentage risk of rain. Some may be different but the BBC says be says percentage chance of precipitation as I understand it.

I moved to the U.K. from a tropical country and I genuinely dislike the heat. My ideal temperature is around 20. So, I didn’t like the weather at all this weekend, and the forecast for the next few days works for me.

It’s not a major factor in my life, though. It’s always fascinated me just how deeply the British seem to care and have strong feelings about the weather. It’s not really something I’d encountered before I moved here.

Yes, and what is remarkable I think is not just strong feelings about the weather but, as seen on this thread, the strength of feeling some people seem to have about other people's feelings about the weather!

Aramiss · 13/05/2024 23:01

British people are obsessed with the weather. I think it's because of how variable it is and how our behaviour and attitudes are so defined by it. There's no surprise our moods tend to follow.

😂. They drive me mad. I was on a support thread last year in mental health where a lot of people were struggling with the dark evenings. Up pops the under blanket twinkly lights hot chocolate drinking dwellers with the wonderful advice to embrace the cosy evenings. WTF? I have a picture in my head now of them all sitting with curtains closed stagnating after a winter under their blankets not being able to see their twinkly lights and crying into their hot chocolate.

It’s not as simple as that. SAD affects people in different ways, some people suffer more in winter and others suffer more in summer. It just dulls a bit for me in summer when the nights are lighter and longer and the weather is warmer.

Unreal! I hope the heat melts all their stupid candles too. Even if it’s a bit damp, they’ll be too warm to wear their stupid snuggly jumpers too.

KimberleyClark · 13/05/2024 23:13

I’m really sorry about the weather, it’s obviously my fault as I tempted fate by ordering some new garden furniture over the weekend. Apologies again.

emwithme · 13/05/2024 23:21

I'm really sorry, but we're not actually going to have a summer this year. My DH bought a portable air conditioner on Friday.

PrincessOlga · 13/05/2024 23:24

To be honest, "below 20" is 18, which is actually quite nice and suits me very well.

Showery means... showers yes... but maybe some sunshine the rest of the time?

I am just relieved we are getting above 10 C!

You've got to look on the bright side... What I fear is that because the weather has been so cold, rainy and grey, we will then get the other extreme and boiling hot temperatures (which I also dislike).

60andsomething · 13/05/2024 21:17

I hate the heat too, and am so glad tit has gone away again

Same absolutely hate it with a passion. I can't function when it's hot. My house at the back is very much south facing so we get baked alive.

alrightluv · 13/05/2024 23:56

It was sunny here today NE coast. I caught the sun. I had sun tan lotion on though.
Cloudy again tomorrow with some rain 😞 ☔

People complaining about the “heat” must be trolling 😁😁😁

If they aren’t, they should lock themselves in and throw the keys away.

BeachHutsAndDeckchairs · 14/05/2024 00:04

If it's not absolutely siling it down, I try to enjoy my garden in the spring and summer as much as I can. It is nice when it's sunny but cloudy and breezy is good too and in some ways more pleasant for harder, more active jobs like mowing the lawn or cutting back the bushes. Get a shade or a cover or an outdoor room if possible so you can still be outside even if it's drizzling.
