Nearly cried at the change in weather

I felt so much better at the end of last week with the sunshine and even this morning was happy hanging the washing out . Until the rain set in again and I checked the long term forecast and it's to stay showery and under .20 degrees until mid June now. Can't help it. Just feel really depressed. I was so happy pottering in the garden and getting a bit of sun. Anyone else struggling.

I'm chuffed. Don't get me wrong, I've loved the sunshine and am looking forward to having it back but the garden needed a real soak for my little seedlings and it's saved me a big job!!

I am the opposite, anything over 20 makes me so anxious

I’m from a hot country too, I hate cold weather and most days I do wonder what compelled me to move here! The reason Brits are always talking about the weather is because of how grey and wet it is all the time. In a lot of countries like mine and I’m assuming your tropical country we are guaranteed beautiful hot springs & summers, even very warm autumn and winters. Not just one day or one week but months and months. It’s not like that here and good hot sunny days are few and far between and definitely not guaranteed.

I’ve lived in other fairly wet/grey countries and the weather wasn’t the hot topic of conversation it is here. It’s like the weather is a major character in British people’s lives in a way that I find really interesting.

As an aside, we don’t have those seasons where I’m from and spend a lot of time in air conditioned rooms and cars doing our best to escape the heat. The idea of a hot day being beautiful or something to cherish is alien to me, I’m afraid.

the80sweregreat · 14/05/2024 10:36

I think people chat about the weather as it's not something that can upset anyone and it isn't controversial!
I like it cooler / rain and grey skies, but I appreciate everyone doesn't.
If it's boiling I feel ill

So you are perfectly OK with higher food prices this year then because this weather has affected the farmers, not only in this country but in parts of Germany and France? But hey, as long as you are OK with wet weather then it won't matter.

Where did they say that, though? They enjoy the current weather. They didn’t cause it. Their enjoyment (and your lack thereof) has no impact on said weather or the plight of farmers or high food prices. If they were miserable, all those things would still be happening.

You’d think that, but people still manage to get upset. As illustrated by comments on this thread. 🤣

What would you like us to actually do about it? your comment is a strawman because nowhere has anyone said they're OK with higher food prices because of the bad weather, they've just said they prefer cool rainy weather. A perfectly valid opinion to hold.

@ns87

“anxious”? Why?

LuckySantangelo35 · 14/05/2024 10:51

I’m manifesting a MASSIVE heatwave! 🤞😎☀️🕺

“anxious”? Why?

Its just everything I don't like, and heightens my anxiety, noise, people everywhere, the heat mimics panic for me.

MyFirstLittlePony · 13/05/2024 21:22

People complaining about the “heat” must be trolling 😁😁😁

This! It was pleasantly warm, not hot. I don’t like heat but I loved the weather last weekend

CobsCabs · 14/05/2024 10:56

You need to move to Ireland for a while and then you'd begin to appreciate that 20 degrees is perfectly fine weather.

Famfirst · 14/05/2024 10:58

Me too but it was when it was sunny and warm!

I'm much happier now it's cooler and raining 🥳😃

Exactly. And don’t people like a bit of a change? I love sunshine and warmth but I wouldn’t want it for 12 months or the year. I’d actually like some proper seasons and less grey and relentless rain.

A proper summer then I may actually welcome a bit of autumn. A cold (very short!) winter around Christmas. Then an early Spring from Feb.

Yet people genuinely want it to piss it down (and people’s livelihoods to be ruined!!) all year round. With no respite. Probably because they are enjoying lying under a blanket doing naff all.

I don't think having the odd hot May Day is unusual at all. I'm sure I remember several over the years I've been alive.

It's not even so much the heat I crave - let's face it, in most of the uk it's not been that warm yet really. It's the blue skies, and the sight of the sun.

And the fact that it just wasn't grey and wet for a change!

27 °C is well outside the norm for May - at least for the last 30-odd years, and even more so for the first half of May

Probably the twinkly lights, snuggled under blankets drinking hot chocolate brigade who love the dark wet cold weather 😂

How dare you. Heat affects people (myself included) due to various disabilities, just because it doesnt affect you doesnt mean you get to sit here and mock us.

Oh well it was only 27 degrees in a few areas of England for a very short time on one day of May. After months and months and months of rain. Back to about 15 degrees and rain.

But yes how awful for those that like the cold and rain - how did they cope on that fateful day. Normal service is now resumed. Phew.

AStepAtaTime · 14/05/2024 12:50

I have just looked at the weather forecast. Rain here for the next 2 weeks.

Bollocks

drusth · 14/05/2024 12:54

Our terrace house was roasting this weekend, I'm glad for a rest bite from it.

The condemnation in our kitchen was intense.

reenlakm · 14/05/2024 13:19

it’s lovely and sunny here today, despite saying rain forecast.

You cannot seriously be unaware of the effects of climate change and records being broken month after month after month?!

ThisKookyBlueSnake · 14/05/2024 13:23

The sun goes nothing for me. Doesn't lift my mood, I get all hot and sweaty. I prefer winter.
