I don’t mind this, in the grand scheme of things.

It acknowledges that women give birth, while accommodating those who identify differently.

Quite different to replacing ‘women’ with ‘birthing people’, as I have seen on occasion.

I agree

TheKeatingFive · 14/05/2024 10:55

Yes thats because they misunderstand the terms

Exactly

But you said people 'weren't that dense'

But now you're saying they DO misunderstand the terms.

The majority of people seek the term that refers to them and ignore anything else. They dont care as long as they are included.

You stating that doesn't make it true

We actually study things like this for MA and general health promotion. People dont care. Quite a few women wanted to see women and... so thats what the guidance states.

Where's you evidence they don't care? Where's the survey data?

women on this thread care, clearly

Once you correct them, they just say "oh" and go forth with new knowledge like most humans. It's a common mistake. Has no bearing on maternity services. But literally nobody thinks people without wombs and who were born with testicles can get pregnant regardless of their current gender identity. Remmber trans women exist in many cultures (Asia especially) so theyre not unaccustomed to the biological limitations of trans womanhood

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 14/05/2024 10:59

‘Birthing’ really grates on me anyway - birth is not a verb! You give birth, you don’t ‘birth’.

There is data avaliable both from individual units and wider that the majority of people dont care or support it.

You don't know how they really feel though.

You actually do.

Or whether they retain the information

Mauhea · 14/05/2024 11:13

I assume this must be the go-to agreed wording nowadays. I was reading the CQC reports for the maternity units in my Trust's hospitals and every time service users were mentioned they were referred to as 'women and birthing people'.

CheapThrillsMeanNothing · 14/05/2024 11:15

There was a discussion on LBC last night and the 'expert' (I can't remember who) said people giving birth.
So annoying!

TheKeatingFive · 14/05/2024 11:01

Show me research that gender inclusive language is harmful to women?

I will give you a clue where to look. Although maternity has a absence of related research, sexual health and other fields have more on their use of gender inclusive language.

TheKeatingFive · 14/05/2024 11:02

Whether people retain information is a whole different barrier unrelated to trans people.

valensiwalensi · 13/05/2024 23:59

What exactly is your problem?

Trans men exist.

Aye and my roses are ten feet tall because of all the unicorn shit I spread in the borders.

duvelmonkey · 14/05/2024 12:35

Mackmacking · 14/05/2024 10:45

Yes and id be correct because that is pretty much what it does mean.

"pretty much"

Mackmacking · 14/05/2024 12:36

duvelmonkey · 14/05/2024 12:35

"pretty much"

Yes. Some people stop periods before menopause.

Could probably just use your own bullshit, would be cheaper?

Lookwhosbackbackagain · 14/05/2024 12:58

I don’t mind that she referred to trans men as birthing people tbh as long as she doesn’t refer to biological women as birthing people. That’s when it gets annoying.

duvelmonkey · 14/05/2024 13:04

Mackmacking · 14/05/2024 12:36

Yes. Some people stop periods before menopause.

I read it as people (all people of both sex)

You read it as people ('people who have periods') also known as biological women.

You used words like "pretty much" and "assume" because it wasn't clear.
You say that this sort of confusion is "irrelevant"

I believe health information should be clear and accurate for the wellbeing of all people.

YankSplaining · 14/05/2024 13:05

Everydayimhuffling · 13/05/2024 19:26

I've never understood why anyone would object to being called a person. We are people. A significant problem for women has always been being treated as not people. This does not negatively affect you in any way.

Because it’s not being used to emphasize the humanity of women, it’s being used to advance the idea that “people” other than women and girls get pregnant and give birth.

WickedSerious · 14/05/2024 13:07

valensiwalensi · 14/05/2024 12:55

Or you could donate some of yours.

You have so much and it's the kind thing to do.

Edited

It literally says in the title though woman as well.

Does anybody have the stats for how many men, aka transwomen, aka birthing persons, have actually given birth in say, the last 3 years? How many people are we pandering this nonsense to?

None, obviously, since they don't have a uterus! 😂

They are referring to 'transmen' (who are biological women). I'd be really interested to see the stats on how many of THEM have given birth in the last three years!
