If you own a ranger rover

Is it on finance? Just wondering how many people actually buy then outright? They are my dream car and although I could finance a monthly payment I could never buy one outright! How much do you have to earn for that?! I’m on 89k for context

Ha we routinely get 40+ mpg in our RR evoque and sport because cruising at 70mph on the motorway is the most economic. Rarely drive above the speed limit as we are in so much luxurious comfort we’re not in a rush to get to our destination 🤣 also if we go too fast the peasants in non range rovers won’t be able to admire our beautiful cars. 🎣 I am sooooo enjoying the hate on here. It’s so pathetic how people let themselves get so upset about what car someone drives 🤣

You are very naughty [but I love you].

Wrong, many cars can be driven fast and inconsiderately

@IItisymoi You're missing the point here. Of course pretty much any car is capable of exceeding the speed limit and driving recklessly. But RR’s routinely drive significantly over, it is a rare sight to see one on the motorway doing 70 or less. I drive about 5k miles of motorway per year and that’s my experience.

A rare sight? Where do you live? I live in peak RR territory and they certainly do not all drive over the speed limit any more than any other car.

You're not awful people but by God that is so so cringeworthy.

What does hating 'on' RR mean? Surely it's just hating RR?

Not really when people upthread describe RR owners as wankers and knobs..it’s not just a dislike of the brand but extends to the driver. Very odd.

Yes it's a real mystery isn't it. I honestly cannot fathom why.

IItisymoi · 15/05/2024 19:16

Yes it's a real mystery isn't it. I honestly cannot fathom why.

So many people don't understand the concept of 'shades' of grey where the world is not just black and white. MN is a hotbed of 'men hating'.
Also lack of interest to find out WHY something is as it is (good or bad).
Notice how the tabloids reported a LandRover crushed the footballers legs a couple of days ago, as if being run over by an EV Clio would be any less painful or bad.

Yes it is a mystery why someone would decide the character of a person based on the metal box they use to get to different places. But maybe I’m missing something.

I drive an Audi which automatically makes me a wanker too according to MN, but if I trade for a Ford I will be good again 🙏🏼

NorthUtsireSouthUtsire · 15/05/2024 20:33

I'll tell you why I absolutely fucking love my RR evoque convertible.

I have spent 30 years driving cars that I don't like but fitted our family. Mostly seven seaters .. as DH has 3, I have 2 and we needed someone that fitted us all so yes .. a Zaffira , Dajia, Kia etc... so once I had taught youngest to drive I wanted a car FOR ME ..

So I asked around about the best sports car as I had always wanted one. I was recommended an Audi TT what a fantastic recommendation !, absolutely bloody loved it. Especially if you are someone who really loves 'proper' driving.. I absolutely loved it... BUT ... I'm super rural. Within 3 years I had been down 16 potholes. Lost 7 wheels and another 3 tyres. I work shifts and in winter in the dark the holes are impossible to see... I just felt so sorry for my beautiful car getting mullered everyday.... had a little whine and a moan...

And then .. for my birthday... from my lovely DH who usually buys me a scarf or perfume..
presented me with my fabulous RR evoque convertible... I still love my Audi TT but she really needs a different road. Have had my RR convertible 2 years and love her .. no problems here.

This thread is a very scary insight into people’s jealousy and inability to reflect on it/ability to be in denial about it.

It's not jealousy for many people though. They just truly don't like Range Rovers and what they represent. Nor do they want to associate with the type of people who drive them. It's been said time and again that RR drivers are some of the most selfish and entitled drivers on the road. It seems like a vehicle for those who need to demonstrate their self regard and importance through a vehicle. It comes across as a status symbol for arseholes. I am well aware that not every RR driver fits this stereotype, but so many of them do and it exists for a reason

I don't own one but I love them too. I'm
Not a car person at all but something about a Range Rover I really love. I think it's the shape and the styling. They look so elegant to me. Out of our price range though. We are going to buy a discovery though (not as pretty!)

Elegant?!?!?!? 😧🤭🤭🤭 You and I have vastly different ideas of what constitutes elegant. Blimey

I love my range rover. I drove evoque now and next year gonna change for velar. My car insured just fine. I live in cambridge though not in london. So i dont know how hard to insured RR in london. I love my car, it was my dream car and iove it everyday. I’m with finance aswell only £250 per month. Not much. It is 2014 evoque. Bought as second hand car in 2015. So its pretty new when i bought it. I put big downpayment.

😂

We have a Jaguar F Pace on finance. Always brought cars outright. This the first nice car we have owned. We were forced out of our cars by ULEZ. Just depends how you choose to spend your money. When we broight the dealer said, always look in the service car park, that will give you an idea of cars that have problems. It was all RRs! This was a JLR dealership.

We really enjoy getting out and about more now as the drive is so comfortable. There is so much uncertainty with EVs, what cars will be banned next, we felt the opportunity to walk away only having lost the depreciation was OK for us. My dad and both really enjoyed cars (looking at them/ talking about them) whereas my sister couldn't give a damn! We are all different. I also love I can get my mum's motorised wheelchair in easily, without worrying what else needs to go on the boot!

Bought. The word is BOUGHT when you're referring to buying something in past tense. "I bought it" brought means you took something from one place to another

Duckingella · 15/05/2024 22:41

Use to work in car insurance.

Feb and September every other bloody phone call I received was someone wanting to change their car over to a évoque.

Why is it hard to believe that not everyone is jealous of you? Not everyone is obsessed with money and status. I'm not saying that you are, but this belief that people who don't want what others have must be jealous is ridiculous and suggests vanity and arrogance.

Totally agree, there are the same 3 posters on here going on about how wonderful their ugly great box lumps of metal are. Accusing people of being jealous is all they can come up with 🤭

https://www.bloomberg.com/news/features/2024-05-15/in-montreal-suv-drivers-must-pay-hefty-new-fees-to-park

Tax and parking-charge these vehicles, please. Heavily.

The UK is a small, densely populated country with a green belt policy that makes it hard for cities to swell to American proportions to accommodate giant car-sized roads/parking/infrastructure. You need to be squeezing the drivers of these vehicles until they are pleading for mercy, or you can expect ever-worsening potholes, pavement damage and congestion in cities.

Bloomberg - Are you a robot?

But the exact same comments are made about about Audi and BMW drivers, another two brands and another massive group of drivers. VW are virtually the same as Audis but seem to escape the judgment.
When people make the “typical bmw drivers” comment they sound so stupid to me. Most drivers switch brands anyway so it’s a myth.

blue345 · 16/05/2024 08:07

You can buy pretty huge SUVs, for example the Audi Q8, that are equally large and heavy. I was also the driver not going more than 70 while plenty of Audis and BMWs shot past on the motorway. I find some of the worst tail-gaters are Vectras.

They're also taxed fairly heavily as is. There's VAT on the purchase price, fuel duty on the petrol or diesel (mine wasn't very efficient) and higher road tax.

I take gentle ribbing about driving a RR as fair game but this thread has shown some pretty strong opinions that aren't really based in reality. I get the anti SUV feeling but not sure why BMW, Mercedes and Audi and (frankly Landcruiser and Toureg) drivers get a free pass.

vitahelp · 16/05/2024 08:13

@blue345 Yes that’s true actually that the large Audi Q7-Q8/BMW X6-X8 seem to avoid criticism unlike RR. It is the corporate looking saloon BMW/Audis that seem to attract the comments.

I’ve never thought of RRs as being speeding driver cars really, they are quite top heavy and don’t look made for fast driving. I look at them as a comfortable leisurely drive. The fast drivers I know who like a powerful car are usually in a hatch (Golf R) or small saloon.

This thread has surprised me and I don’t really come across these sorts of opinions outside of this site.

Heatherbell1978 · 16/05/2024 08:14

@vitahelp I used to think the whole 'BMW drivers' rhetoric was weird until I had kids and my sense of risk on the road increased massively. Then I realised that the speeding cars, lack of indicating on our local roundabout and general dickish driving I saw every day was, indeed, mainly BMW drivers. And I have similar experience with RRs. They line up like some military parade in the disabled spots at my gym. No blue badges of course. And our local school has a 'no access' road to prevent car drivers dropping off kids at the gate in quite a narrow and dangerous road. But guess what cars constantly use it to drop their darlings at the gate? Yep, RRs.
There was a time a few years ago when I thought 'ooh nice looking car' but seeing the selfish entitlement it seems to grant their drivers has put me right off.
