To think that everything Fiona Harvey said in her Piers Morgan interview was a lie? [Edit by MNHQ]

Having watched her interview this evening, everything about her screamed 'liar'. Her language, her demeanor, her body language. I just wonder what other think?

A Fiona Harvey definitely graduated with an ordinary degree in law from Aberdeen University.

But she states in the interview she was known as Fiona Muir-Harvey

Oh I didn't know this. So the emails and calls and letters were false and she didn't send them ?

No, the attack and the time in prison for a start.

Maybe she did, maybe she didn’t send the letters etc. When there are other (serious lies) it’s difficult to know what else is a lie or and exaggeration.

It's problematic because the drama is supposed to be true, but there are clear lies.

I am trying not to have an opinion either way.

This is the issue. It's billed as a true story. But then the makers admit that some of it is fictional. It leaves the viewers wondering what is and isn't true. It becomes very conspiratorial. It encourages people to do their own "research" (online stalking) of anyone connected to Gadd. Those titillated and horrified by the stalking on TV become to a certain extent a bit of a stalker!

She also has a photo of her in cap and gown on her fb page (I know that in itself doesn't prove anything).

I'm very (or maybe not) surprised that Netflix billed this as a true story and not based on a true story .

She couldn’t give Piers Morgan an answer regarding her degree classification. This has been used as evidence against her and as proof she’s a liar.

People have tried to explain that in this situation, he has misunderstood and she’s not necessarily wrong.

I am very interested in all of this and have watched both (so I can make my own opinion up seeing as so many people are talking about it). I am trying not to jump to one extreme or another regarding any of them. I think there is truth in there, but not what we have been shown. I don’t think any of them look good after this (including the writer) and I wonder why the internet is focused on her, not the rapist.

The words “This is a true story” are typed on the screen at the start.

Throughout the show, the words typed on the screen are meant to be what Martha wrote in the emails “sent from my ihpon”

Is it not possible that “this is a true story” was also typed in that way as a nod to a delusional person believing their own truth?

in other words, the typist is a character who is known to tell lies. So we realise as it goes on that the typed text was a lie….

To me, Fiona held her own during the interview. She sounded like any politician on TV, identical, the same way of speaking. Very assertive, fluent in how she responded to the questions and didn't really trip up. She also really did not seem flustered or worried. She evaded some questions just like most politicians. I mean if I found myself in an unexpected media frenzy, I'd be blushing, mumbling, sounding stressed and probably defensive too. She just sounded like she was well briefed and held her head high.

I also thought I am a good reader of body language, tone of voice etc but she did sound very believable by and large. I presume she must be lying but I actually do know women who speak just like her, never flustered, always mega confident and quick to reply, never humble or unsure. Weird!!

I mean how come she is so media savvy?

If her new boyfriend is a lawyer and the story is untrue, why isn't she pursuing this in a court of law and not on a Piers Morgan you tube channel.

The actress plays her very well watching the interview her words and mannerisms are spot on

If she got as far as a traineeship, then she'd have a post-grad Diploma in Legal Practice in addition to the ordinary law degree.

Struggling to get a traineeship in my year (couple of years ahead of her) was normal, but I think everyone who wanted to get one got one in the end. I think it was April before mine was confirmed, for a July start. I don't know anyone who got sacked mid-traineeship, though.

Just to throw my two cents' worth, I think the alleged stalkee, Richard, comes across super sleazy in his online interviews. Very untrustworthy and creepy.

In the interview, she says they are. But it’s very early days regarding gathering information/ starting things. Who knows whether it will happen, I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

I wish people would go to the source. The way things are developing are very concerning.

Re the question of why the internet is going after her rather than the rapist I imagine there are 2 things at play as well as any misogyny that might be a factor.
Firstly accusing someone of rape is a serious thing to do and could potentially get you into trouble. It’s extremely unlikely it’s going to come to court and be proven to be true, even if it is, and many men who are accused aren’t willing to sit there and take the hit to their reputation, so you can’t just say what you want unless you’re willing to risk getting in trouble for libel/defamation.
Secondly if the internet is accusing you of something the best way to get it to go away is to keep quiet and not engage, make all your accounts private and not get embroiled in arguments online. She has not done that, she has been feeding the trolls like crazy.

I think the writer is coming off as badly as her.

She is mentally ill.
This is like Victorians visiting mental hospitals to laugh at the patients as entertainment. Bloody dreadful. It should never have been recorded.

I agree it's disgraceful to wheel her out as entertainment. She has become the victim now and the writer is abusing his position in order to bully Fiona and he looks like he's enjoying it, too.

I imagine that he has been playing a merry game with her from the start. I believe she is a stalker but he has manipulated her too. He does say this in his unfortunately Netflix show, coming across all reflective and sincere but he has used her and continues to use and exploit her vulnerabilities.

I also wonder if the actress who played Fiona was manipulated and not told the truth, I would have thought she must feel very conflicted about it all.

I reckon this was legally ok'd because other shows have done it before, e.g. Fargo.
