To be tired of these types of comments on social media?

Having a scroll through instagram whilst bf-ing.

Now don’t get me wrong, I know what’s going on in the world and I do follow a few “serious” accounts. But I mostly follow the less serious things because it’s just bloody instagram.

I’m just getting tired of seeing so many comments on pictures posted by, say, Vogue Magazine or Rolling Stone, saying “meanwhile in Gaza” “can’t believe you’re posting this pointless crap when there’s a war happening” “Rafah is being bombed and y’all care about the Met Gala?” etc etc.

We know what’s happening in Gaza. We know it’s fucking awful. I hold my children close every day and feel thankful that we’re here and not there. But it’s ok not to be thinking about it ALL THE TIME, and nobody turns to fashion and showbiz accounts on social media for hard hitting geopolitical content!

AIBU to think these people could just… give it a rest?

Because it's a ridiculous notion. What about pensions? What about women's rights? What about Rochdale? What about British involvement during the troubles? What about Afghanistan? What about Yemen? What about Sudan?

People should feel passionate about something and fight for it! But it's a nuts approach to think it all needs to be in moderation or clipped by some other atrocity.

How on earth do you expect anything to get done if we constantly think about alternatives? You pick up a torch and you carry it for what you feel strongly about. How can a single person encompass all the worlds evils and try to solve them all together? Nutty ideology

My point is so few people are outraged by what’s happening to the Uyghurs because either it’s not trendy cause “du jour“ or in some cases there’s no opportunity to hate on another minority.

If you DO care about a Islamophobia the world over and not just the more widely known areas, then wouldn’t the logical thing to do would be to research and raise awareness for an unheard cause? But so few people seem to.

People pick and choose their causes a lot of the time because they care. Sadly people also do it for their own opportunity to discriminate. I’ll give something of an extreme example:
Tommy Robinson has joined campaigns for better protection of children and he has also joined marches against anti-semitism.
im 99.9% convinced that Tommy Robinson couldn’t give two shits about children or Jewish people. He does it to hate on Muslims.

With him it’s obvious because he gives himself a very public platform and because he’s as thick as two short planks, we see the thinly veiled racism right away.
I do believe that some “regular” people without platforms are more like Tommy with their motivations. Which is why they go for the most visible causes and not the causes elsewhere where they can make an actual difference with their time and energy.

Nice personal attack there.

I don’t think I ever claimed nobody was Palestinian?

It's not total BS. It may not be the case for everyone but it has absolutely been the case for me - if I share a story of a dog, 300 views, if I share something from middleeasteye, 5 views. People can't preview your story, so it has been shown as an option to click on to far less people. It has been censored.

Or because Instagram algorithms drop content on people’s feeds based on their interests. A lot of people use Instagram for fun and easy content. I once had a phase of watching dashcam videos to pass the time and for weeks it was about 90% of what popped up of my feed, I had to find other content to watch to make it change.

As an aside who do you think is at the centre of this censorship conspiracy?

I don't need to. My point is there are so many other atrocities taking place daily. Some people's families may even be significantly affected. Putting people down for not speaking up about your chosen conflict is wrong.

You also don't need to shout.

What makes you think they do?

I have no reason to believe they don’t help. I help loads of random unknown causes, I’d only tell people of the conversation came up naturally

I mean, you could try asking rather than assuming?

YaMuvva · 15/05/2024 00:24

@NikkiMartin what’s with the rudeness?
Totally unnecessary.

Yes and that’s obviously talking about non-Palestinians who feel they can in some way relate. They cant. It was also tongue in cheek and not meant to be taken literally, I’m guessing.

Also I didn’t write it. Interesting how it was ME you called the idiot. Hmm.

I have an enlightened brain thank you and I don’t need the wisdom of someone who has decided completely at random to start being rude and ridiculous to people who don’t share their exact viewpoint.

To repeat my words from earlier on Zionism:

It’s the belief that Jewish people are entitled to their own state. WHY, when literally every tiger major religion on the land has numerous states of their own are you ONLY ‘anti’ Jewish people have a state of their own?
BTW you can be a Zionist and believe in a tow state solution, because Jewish people still then get their state. That’s certainly my viewpoint

So what is wrong with that? Or are you pro ethnic cleansing? Because I’m not.

PS it wasn’t me who made the flatbread comment. And that’s not a good analogy, at all.

NikkiMartin · 15/05/2024 00:35

And before you go on, "but I didn't write it"

You reposted it and thought it swell!!

If someone said I dislike Asians, and you reposted it - does that not say something about you??

YaMuvva · 15/05/2024 00:35

But tell me why my position - which BTW is NOT anti-Palestinian, it is that I don’t agree with the demand that every celebrity has to declare their outrage over a specific cause (and also “Their view MUST align with mine!” - is ‘repulsive’?

Except nobody said “I dislike Asians”.

This is about virtue signalling on social media, and that poster made a great point about people’s behaviours and motivations.

I just find it interesting you are holding me account for the words. Why after 4 days are you coming for me specifically? Why didn’t you 4 days ago?

I don’t even know where to begin with this post.

WTF are you even going on about?

Many Jewish people are not religious. In fact I think most in the U.K. are not religious or are atheist. Calling Zionism “non believing” (although you are wrong) really has zero impact.

Who chose Palestine?

And why are you asking me specifically my opinions on Jewish people being arrested in Germany? You need to provide full context of this story. And What’s it got to do with social media, which is what this thread is about?

To be clear, so your time isn’t wasted: I know what you’re doing and I won’t be baited.
