To ask you to just READ THE FUCKING THREAD before posting your wisdom?

Or at least, for the love of sweet baby Jesus and all his chickens, read the OP's posts?

Especially if it's a long thread which may, you know, have moved on a little since the first post?

If you're so lazy and unengaged that you can't be arsed to check whether the OP of eg: a 200+ post thread in Relationships has added anything or updated their situation, why not just consider scrolling on by?

Cheers.

@OldHabitsDieScreaming , no, we don't have to do that.

NonPlayerCharacter · 08/05/2024 13:51

ImNotReallySpartacus · 08/05/2024 13:45

You can't eat the chicken, it's Jesus' personal pet and therefore off-limits.

The bread's fine, though, he made enough for everybody.

Mothership4two · 08/05/2024 13:52

OP I'll take your not RTWT and raise it to not RTWT and replying several months later when the issue has been long resolved

Well that's a bit tone-deaf, considering that 98% of Mumsnet is gluten-intolerant.

GingerPirate · 08/05/2024 14:07

Cheers!
I thought RTFT meant read the FULL thread!
😁

Also there is no need to quote the entirety of a lengthy OP. We know who you are replying to!

Totally, especially if it is a long post.

Soukmyfalafel · 08/05/2024 14:10

So you want me to read through hundreds of posts just to please you do you? You might have hours to do that, but I don't. I can barely read through some OP's they are so long.

Soukmyfalafel · 08/05/2024 14:12

And no, I haven't read this thread either. Sorry.

EightChalk · 08/05/2024 14:12

Re all this "I don't have to do that, who are you to tell people what to do, I post what I want" - well yeah, but then it's a bit rich to be annoyed if people think you're being a jerk. Being technically allowed to do what you want doesn't mean you shouldn't be criticised for it.

JFDIYOLO · 08/05/2024 14:13

I've just R This entire FT to see if anyone else has said - OPs, if there is a major development or missing bit of info that gets filled in on a drip in your mega threads, please could you go back to your original post, click on edit, and update that? It would save a lot of angst.

5YearsLeft · 08/05/2024 14:13

Allfur · 08/05/2024 13:47

To be clear, I always read updates- however I am not bothered by those who don't - I just just scroll on by

Oh, I understand. I didn’t want to assume about anybody - I just wanted to explain why this behavior can range from annoying to downright arsehole-ish. I think the real issue is that if you do want to read a thread, then seeing the same comment 500 times can ruin it, but more so, that in both the examples I gave, it was something that could actually cause pain to the OPs.

You can only edit for a few minutes after posting.

Mothership4two · 08/05/2024 14:20

I often feel sorry for OPs when they are getting more and more frustrated with posters not reading properly and having to re-explain again and again.

Sometimes some posters will fixate on one particular thing (children's ages is a big one). Sometimes it's not even relevant to the point OP is making - classic one is for OP to mention in passing food given to DC. "I heard that there was a dangerous escaped convict loose in our area and whilst dishing up fish fingers and chips for my LO I thought I could hear someone outside trying the doors and windows but not 100% sure if I am imagining it! Should I call 999?". "You gave your LOs chips? You need to be adding some vegetables! I generally give mine poached fish and add spinach and quinoa"

Yabu. You are not considering those using the app. I cannot be arsed reading the full thread sometimes. On the app, you cannot see all the op's posts. So you can only go through looking, or just post. Of course people end up replying after more info has been given.

HOW TO FILTER OP’S POSTS ONLY ON THE APP (WITH PHOTOS)

At the top of the OP on the app, there is an arrow pointing left. Press that. Then you see “filter” and other options as in the image below. Press filter. And choose “Filter by OP’s posts only.”

It's just a big messy conversation, not sure anyone has the right to tell anyone else how to converse, especially not with sweary capitals, its so angry

EatCrow · 08/05/2024 14:24

Delia123 · 08/05/2024 11:20

Tell me more about the chickens.

They’ve all come home to roost.

I like that though, it fills a need in me.

It's unbelievably arrogant to tell other people how to post, just scroll on and chill out

I remember a post where the OP explained some symptoms and asked if she should go to the doctor? People were still commenting to go to the doctor when it had long ago been established that the OP had been diagnosed with cancer.

What, being sworn at by an angry rando?

Snugglemonkey · 08/05/2024 14:27

PithyLeader · 08/05/2024 12:36

And then people will find your contributions pointless, annoying and contributing to making the forum a bit crap and complain about it/you.

That's how a forum works 😉

That is grand. Some will, others will thank me.
