Or at least, for the love of sweet baby Jesus and all his chickens, read the OP's posts?

Especially if it's a long thread which may, you know, have moved on a little since the first post?

If you're so lazy and unengaged that you can't be arsed to check whether the OP of eg: a 200+ post thread in Relationships has added anything or updated their situation, why not just consider scrolling on by?

Cheers.

YABU to expect someone to read an entire thread if someone wants to respond directly to the OP.

YANBU to expect someone to read the OP's posts properly.

Sure, but people will read the OP of a 200+ post thread and post the most obvious comment as if nobody in the whole 200 posts has thought of it. It's dumb.

Scroll on by is indeed very good advice - you should take it, and chill out

Now it makes sense why Mumsnetters can feed a family of 12 for a week on one chicken 🐓

They’re Jesus’ chickens aren’t they?

This gave me such a wonderful laugh out loud moment! Thank you x

desperatedaysareover · 08/05/2024 11:30

I would also like it if the people who post telling the renegade who didn’t RTFT to RTFT would check to see if anyone else has already counselled them to RTFT. Or at least run a probability check in their head on whether the non-R of TFT who committed the cardinal sin on page 3 of a FT now 20 pages long may now either have RTFT or already been told to RTFT sixty fucking times.

They don't even read the OP before spaffing their tripe. Try posting about a child in year 8 and watch how many have such poor reading attention they immediately respond with some irrelevant dross about 8 year olds.

Oh I see this every day, it is SO annoying! And always 8 more people chiming in to correct them as well, it clogs up an entire page.

Always about a Year 8 being home alone for 6 minutes after school and someone sticks their fat oar in ‘Wait - are we seriously okaying an 8 year old being left home alone 5 days a week!!! Serious safeguarding issue OP, I would rather quit my job than have my DC home alone for 6 mins. YABU.’

I don’t even live in the UK and can easily work out with context roughly what year 8 means.

This!

If i'm responding to a question to the OP which is asking my opinion - why do i need to read through 20 pages of other people's answers!?

So that it’s relevant and helpful to the op? Like the recent one where the op had been battered by her abusive husband, managed to leave him and phone the police. 2 days and 23 pages later of support and good advice and some absolute numbnuts pipes up with ‘why are you even with him, you need to leave right now and phone the police’ 🙄 if you’re not going to keep up with a long thread then keep your (non) advice to yourself

youngestisapsycho · 08/05/2024 11:34

I rarely click open a thread if it has more than 100 replies... with that many I wouldn't bother commenting.

PithyLeader · 08/05/2024 11:34

CANCEL THE CHEQUE

This is a thread as old as time sadly.

It's social media. People think their opinions are far too important to actually read a thread or just the OPS posts.

Most don't even read the opening post properly before jumping in. Hence all the questions that are already answered in the opening post.

Even on simple, non-controversial threads.

OP - "Any lunchbox ideas for a 7 year old that won't eat bread and is allergic to eggs?"

The first few answers will usually include "how old are they?" "Egg mayonnaise sandwiches?".

Because they've already been given the answer. Repeatedly.

useitorlose · 08/05/2024 11:37

Can anyone recommend a good waterproof mascara?

Or alternatively, tell me how to filter by OP's posts on the app? I have only worked out how to do it on my laptop.

Also, are they Buff Orpington because I hear they are really good layers.

Cadela · 08/05/2024 11:37

Have you cancelled the cheque?

Worst one for me was updating a thread about my miscarriage and endless posters sending congrats on my baby 😅 I can laugh now!

Dweetfidilove · 08/05/2024 11:38

PhuckyNell · 08/05/2024 11:14

No! You can't tame me 😂

Right! 😂😂

NotbloodyGivingupYet · 08/05/2024 11:41

He's probably got issues of his own. Yabu OP, be kind.
Let him have his chickens.

Kelly51 · 08/05/2024 11:42

@loropianalover
Not everyone is at school in England with Y8 etc, easy mistake to make.
I've no idea what age a Y8 is.

I'm not in England. I think it's the year plus 5. I'm basing that on what I've seen in previous Mumsnet threads...

TheGrimSqueakersFlea · 08/05/2024 11:44

@NoTouch Baby Jesus has chickens. We're still waiting to hear more about them

frankentall · 08/05/2024 11:45

NRTFT but probably best to cancel the Cheque OP. or bleed the radiators. HTH

vodkaredbullgirl · 08/05/2024 11:45

Reminds me I need to get some chicken out for tonight.

TuesdayWhistler · 08/05/2024 11:46

I absolutely agree with you OP 100%

Every single person should absolutely read Harry Potter at least once.

Higglings · 08/05/2024 11:49

If you've got the time or inclination to read a long thread before answering, go for it.

Personally I can't be arsed!

ViveLaOeuf · 08/05/2024 11:53

Not RTFT but imo it would help if people at least read all the OPs posts before replying, especially when threads are 200+ posts.

5YearsLeft · 08/05/2024 11:54

Oh fuck yes. Was on some thread the other day, the first comment misread the damn OP, and then EVERYONE followed that comment for a while. OP had to finally “clarify” what, in fact, had been perfectly fucking clear in the OP. I don’t think you ever have to read 20 pages of comments; you just need to read OP’s posts.

(OP: “I go to the gym. My DP takes my DS to football at 9am. My DD can either come to the gym with me or stay alone for 10-15 minutes after DP leaves from 9:10 to 9:15am until I get home from the gym.” One of the first comments: “Why does she have to go to football?!?” Cue fifty people feeling sorry the poor girl is dragged to football and isn’t she anllowed any hobbies of her own and… Fucking hell.)
