Noises in kitchen, absolutely shitting myself

First of all, I have a huge phobia of rats. To the point I can’t function if there is one nearby. I have fainted before when seeing one as a teenager.

anyway, partner is currently out with a mate and won’t be home for a few hours. I cooked my dinner and left his portion on the kitchen counter next to microwave for him to warm up when he gets in, as I’ll likely have gone to bed by then. Went back into living room and put TV on not thinking anything of it, door to kitchen slightly ajar. I can now hear rustling noises. Really weird, the dryer and washer aren’t on and I can’t think of anything else that would explain the noise. It’s really loud though, like something has taken food from the plate and is dragging it along the kitchen floor/kitchen counter, I’m genuinely terrified and physically can’t move from the sofa to go and look. The kitchen counters are raised a few inches from the floor so would be easy for rats to be under there. I’m really frightened so please talk to me until partner gets home as I genuinely am stuck to the sofa with fear.

@gareth99

I'm sorry but I can't believe how upset everybody is getting about something so trivial.

I'm not sure what thread you are reading but who's upset? Most posts are now tongue in cheek. People made lots of suggestions and OP hasn't bothered to update. It's a tad irritating when this is done and people move on and make jokes including how much they care for 'comic effect'.

Will just say having a phobia or dealing with someone who has one (as I have done) isn't trival. It's an irrational fear and deeply unpleasant.

Very sensible rodent advice. (although we will probably never know that it was actually a rat). However it's a bit late in the day as OP has now blown up her house and emigrated to some island.

Fair point that there were only a few people getting so upset about it. I suffer from anxiety in certain situations myself to the extent that I have had treatment for it so I do understand how unpleasant that is. But from my experience only a few people have real anxiety about mice or spiders - in most cases I think it is just people copying behaviour from others.

Anyway glad that the rodent advice was useful. We had a big problem and it worked for us.

Can you go next door as I couldn't be in the house !

So that's where OP is! 😆

LubyLooTwo · 13/05/2024 19:13

Yes it's pathetic.

The rats ambushed and ate OP.

All that protein was just the first step in their cunning plan to get super buff and take over the world.

I'm watching this post for eternity until OP updates.

I have rats in my back yard occasionally as I live next to an overgrown railway line. A clap, shout or light will send them scuttling off. They aren’t brave. Bang on the floor by the sofa, and they will be gone. Good luck.

It’s now the 19th; I actually came back to this thread to check if OP ever returned (no). I wonder if she never found evidence of anything in the kitchen and now she’s worried the sound was elsewhere in the house and has had full-on pest control. Regardless, @Kidulthood2027, if this thread was real, I do hope it all worked out for you.
