Noises in kitchen, absolutely shitting myself

Kidulthood2027 · 05/05/2024 21:54

First of all, I have a huge phobia of rats. To the point I can’t function if there is one nearby. I have fainted before when seeing one as a teenager.

anyway, partner is currently out with a mate and won’t be home for a few hours. I cooked my dinner and left his portion on the kitchen counter next to microwave for him to warm up when he gets in, as I’ll likely have gone to bed by then. Went back into living room and put TV on not thinking anything of it, door to kitchen slightly ajar. I can now hear rustling noises. Really weird, the dryer and washer aren’t on and I can’t think of anything else that would explain the noise. It’s really loud though, like something has taken food from the plate and is dragging it along the kitchen floor/kitchen counter, I’m genuinely terrified and physically can’t move from the sofa to go and look. The kitchen counters are raised a few inches from the floor so would be easy for rats to be under there. I’m really frightened so please talk to me until partner gets home as I genuinely am stuck to the sofa with fear.

@Kidulthood2027 I am so invested in finding out what happened. Please come back!!

Nothing happened. There was no rat (or cat, or mouse....). The op thought she heard the noise but wouldn't even peek into the kitchen to see if it was real. Nothing happened, so nothing to report. A load of drama for nothing 🙄

mummymayhem18 · 07/05/2024 14:05

So annoying when people don't update. 👎

Mothership4two · 07/05/2024 15:24

Maybe it was an axe murderer having a quick snack to get his energy levels up before he started a'chopping?! Op must now be seriously indisposed so an update may take her a while

Rescuedog12 · 07/05/2024 17:51

You are being unreasonable for not covering the food and putting in the fridge.

Isinglass20 · 07/05/2024 18:18

Fingers crossed that it’s a cat, it’ll keep rats and mice away :)

Mumoftwochildrenand6furkids · 07/05/2024 18:23

Hope your ok now and got it sorted im the same but with bugs feel like crying and freeze if i see an spider or anything like that if im in the house alone.

MelodyFinch · 07/05/2024 18:29

Get your things together, phone an Uber and go and stay at your mum’s. Let your boyfriend worry instead.

I’ll never understand rat/mice phobias. Such cuties 🤗

We had a rat infestation they were far from cute ,and they destroy everything.

StressedOutButProudMama · 07/05/2024 18:45

So what as it

No, they really aren't. They are terrifying.

I can’t get my head around this (appreciating, of course, that phobias are not rational and most people have at least one).

What about similar looking animals - squirrels, hedgehogs and alike?

Said no one who has lived through an infestation in their home. Ever Confused

I have. It was terrible living with an infestation (we had a very bad one in a rented shithole) but that didn’t mean they were scary, or that they’re not cute.

Toddlerteaplease · 07/05/2024 19:30

@HangryOliveMentor squirrels and hedgehogs are fine. No idea why. Not phobic of birds, but I really don't like them either. Love ducks though. Completely irrational!

Jellyfish are my weird phobia, to the point I won’t go in the sea 😁

Rodents I love, though (and rats in particular are probably the best pet outside of cats and dogs).

Toddlerteaplease · 07/05/2024 19:46

@HangryOliveMentor my sister had a massive meltdown when we went to a beach that was covered in jellyfish. She wouldn't go anywhere near it!

Pelsall116 · 07/05/2024 20:06

Don't keep us in suspense OP; what did it turn out to be? rat? cat? ghost?

Bonus though that you're unlikely to encounter a jellyfish in your kitchen stealing your potato wedges.

My fear is fairly niche. It's animals such as the hound of the baskervilles and werewolves, and thankfully I rarely worry they are in the kitchen.

somedaymykingwillcum · 07/05/2024 20:28

I think OP have fallen prey to a killer rat. 🐀

When my parents went away I used to lick the cat flap

Grin

I had to read that a few times 😂😂😂

WingingItSince1973 · 07/05/2024 21:16

Shame op didn't return. Was hoping to soften her hatred of rats by saying they make amazing pets. We sadly had our last boy pts beginning of year. They are so loveable and clever and have never been bitten by one. That said I guess wild rats are a bit more feisty 😬 But they aren't the bad boys people think they are ❤️

Calliopespa · 07/05/2024 21:50

I think sometimes they leave the thread hanging to see how many replies they can garner. It’s rude in any case.

GetSomeNaiceHam · 08/05/2024 02:40

Urgh. Total anticlimax. Wonder if @Kidulthood2027 was eaten by a giant crat

sashh · 08/05/2024 05:15

So to recap.

It was a cat or a rat (cute or vicious) or an axe murderer.

The OP has either fallen in love with the cat, burned the house down and moved abroad away from the rat or is no longer in existence, or just rude.
