Noises in kitchen, absolutely shitting myself

First of all, I have a huge phobia of rats. To the point I can’t function if there is one nearby. I have fainted before when seeing one as a teenager.

anyway, partner is currently out with a mate and won’t be home for a few hours. I cooked my dinner and left his portion on the kitchen counter next to microwave for him to warm up when he gets in, as I’ll likely have gone to bed by then. Went back into living room and put TV on not thinking anything of it, door to kitchen slightly ajar. I can now hear rustling noises. Really weird, the dryer and washer aren’t on and I can’t think of anything else that would explain the noise. It’s really loud though, like something has taken food from the plate and is dragging it along the kitchen floor/kitchen counter, I’m genuinely terrified and physically can’t move from the sofa to go and look. The kitchen counters are raised a few inches from the floor so would be easy for rats to be under there. I’m really frightened so please talk to me until partner gets home as I genuinely am stuck to the sofa with fear.

I suspect nothing happened at all and OP just hid upstairs all night for no reason.

probably this happens to often now don’t u think? People starting these threads either lying for no reason and getting people interested or just completely ignoring and giving no update 😂

Sauvblanctime · 06/05/2024 21:43

Op and her partner have been eaten by the catrat

that’s the only logical solutionn

Flamingogirl08 · 06/05/2024 21:49

Jesus what happened OP? Or has the rat set up camp in your house and stolen your phone?

Branster · 06/05/2024 22:29

@flatironbuildin would you please be my mum?
Your post is very sensible and I shall try and remember it.
I wish you were with me when I found 2 snakes - I am way too embarrassed to go into details, but along the lines of running away waving arms about, then running back to grab my phone with no idea who to call, then running back again to get the stupid dogs, but I can't remember where I wanted to run to! Not dissimilar to running style in Benny Hill films.

littlecurtainsdoorway · 07/05/2024 00:35

I suspect OP was just winding everyone up.

RogueFemale · 07/05/2024 00:45

Actually a bit fucked off to still not know what happened 24 hrs on.

scoobysnaxx · 07/05/2024 00:56

Just a pointless circus on a bored night. Clearly OP likes having people on tenterhooks..

Same. Now I hope it was a huge rat.

This one? @Louise303

Yes this was the one.

sashh · 07/05/2024 03:40

OP

Where are you? Are you safe? Do we need to send lemon drizzle cake? A rescue party?

HangryOliveMentor · 07/05/2024 04:13

I’ll never understand rat/mice phobias. Such cuties 🤗

SamPM · 07/05/2024 04:55

AGlinnerOfHope · 05/05/2024 21:59

It will be a cat. A rat wouldn’t be that noisy.

whats the food?

Oh yes they can be that noisy. As can a wee mouse. Last year I heard an almighty racket coming from downstairs. I went and had a look and it was a tiny mouse dragging one of my dogs chew bones across the hardwood floor. He was determined! Next day I set up live traps.

AnImaginaryCat · 07/05/2024 05:34

I think we should arrange a sweep of all the houses in Liverpool. Anything less isn't acceptable..The OP could be cornered in their bedroom by a giant rat/cat/bear/ghost/Man U supporter.

BBCLW · 07/05/2024 06:30

We used to hear really loud noises in the kitchen that I was convinced were rats, or mice behind the cupboards. I could hear them in the living room and sometimes from upstairs.

Then one day I was in the kitchen and the sound started, I moved towards it hoping to pin down where it was coming from and a pigeon flew away from the window. The vent for the cooker hood sticks out from the wall and a massive wood pigeon had decided it was a good place to perch and scratch around on, and the sound was massively magnified by the tube which runs behind the cabinets and it really sounded as if it was in the kitchen.

Rats might eat the food but they almost certainly won't drag a plate along.

I think after yesterday's result all the Man U fans are hiding, so you can knock that one off the list.

What Happened?????? Was it a platypus?

True. But this started before the match so they will not be aware. I was thinking if this is the situation telling then the result would be a good tactic to get them to stand down.

A platypus is also a possibility @margymary. It's probably wise to also consider it could be an otter.

bloodyplumbing · 07/05/2024 07:59

@AnImaginaryCat good point! They'll be ever so sad when they find out though.

@Kidulthood2027 I am so invested in finding out what happened. Please come back!!

Quacking4it · 07/05/2024 10:05

Maybe she was the rat

Livelovebehappy · 07/05/2024 10:14

Can’t someone PM her? Or is that too stalkerish?

potato57 · 07/05/2024 13:26

tillytoodles1 · 06/05/2024 12:45

I doubt that very much. If I ever came face to face with a rat I'd have hysterics and pass out, my daughter had one in her garden and I ran into the lounge shaking and crying, I hadn't even seen it, she just said there's a rat ou there. When we had a mouse in the kitchen, I sat on the stairs outside our flat until my husband came home.

And when that's happened 30 times you won't even notice it any more.

I was terrified of flying. So I went on ten flights. It got easier. Still don't love it, but I'm not scared like I was.
