The past election/PM changes have been horrendous. The visceral disappointment was awful each time.

I can’t wait to actually celebrate this year. I know, I know, Labour are going to set fire to the economy and tax everyone £3mil each and it’ll cost you 4 trillion a month to send you kid to private school, and all women will perish immediately because only Tories know what a woman is Hmm

But finally! It’s been a long fucking time coming.

Of course. And what about if you can't remember how many children you've had?

This is the trouble with genderwoo. To many people do not realise that it is only woman who give birth to babies, and therefore it is woman who are responsible for them.

AhNowTed · 07/05/2024 11:41

What next - Diane Abbot had a mojito on the tube.

Try harder.

This whole “school” playground fiasco won’t end well.

Corbyn got a divorce because his ex wanted to send their DS to a superselective grammar in North London.
Right now the issue is “PrivAat”. Next it will be selective state, then super rich catchment state under scrutiny. Where do you guys think Starmer sends his kids? Super rich catchment state, of course, like the rest of them. It’s either that or partially selective state or RC church like Blair.
The Daily Mail just need to publish a list of where these kids all go. I hope they won’t but you lot are asking for it. State is not some holy grail, there are massive differences between the quality of state schooling. It’s massively hypocritical to send your DC to the best state schools that tons of private school parents cannot afford to get into!!!

As pp it’s ok if your kid asks to go private

Probably the same if it’s the Oratory or whatever, as long as they ask

But yeh it’ll all be more selective in top state. There’s another thread on oversubscribed schools and the lengths parents go to. There’ll be more of that.

AhNowTed · 07/05/2024 11:46

Folks, even an ex-Tory minister knows that the game is up, and your anti woke culture war bullshit has sunk the Tories.

Kier Starmer sends his kids to a state school, but it's a good one, isn't the win you think it is.

I would just like to point out the inevitable consequence of the falling birth rate that Cates is so concerned about, means there will each year for the foreseable future be fewer children needing those school places, which suggests to my mind less competition.

Ah safeguarding children that old thorny bump in the road for the gender committed

Puberty blockers included?

Zonder · 07/05/2024 11:50

BIossomtoes · 07/05/2024 11:40

It’s a problem, isn’t it?

Definitely. Although bizarrely it's not a problem I've ever had personally 🤔

I would imagine it is quite tricky not to send your kid to a fancy school (State or private) in some parts of London. Just one of many ways the country is ridiculously London-centric.

When America sneezes etc

https://www.newsweek.com/bill-maher-pedophiles-hollywood-viral-video-1892498

"He said that when Republican Florida Governor Ron DeSantis "was saying the exact same thing about kids and creepy stuff at Disney—that liberals now find intolerable at Nickelodeon—he was dismissed as a hick and a bigot..”

‘DeSantis wasn't wrong, but we're so tribal now the left will overlook child f*ing, if the guy from the wrong party calls it out," Maher said on his show.’

frankentall · 07/05/2024 11:54

As for who would lose a pissing contest over educational hypocrisy - I agree it's hard to choose between the main parties (on that narrow issue). The VAT charge is only the reverse of what most of us have suffered from 14 years of Tory rule - they have slashed spending on the schools most of us have no choice but to use by at least the equivalent of VAT.

DuncinToffee · 07/05/2024 11:57

People moving into catchment of outstanding state schools has been happening for donkey's years, nothing new under the sun.

EasternStandard · 07/05/2024 12:01

Of course they have, there will be a new set of ex private parents with more funding competing for places

Estate agents will be happy with the policy

Just to keep the discussion factually based, by 2032 the number of teenagers in the UK is projected to have fallen by a larger amount than the number of them currently in private schools.

Zonder · 07/05/2024 12:05

Or private schools could cut costs and compete to keep pupils.

Does anyone know whether the malicious gossip about Starmer having a trans child is utter made up bollocks? A la Giles Coren and Rose Hanbury type stuff? How and where and why was the rumour started?

EasternStandard · 07/05/2024 12:07

JessS1990 · 07/05/2024 11:37

Its only safeguarding if you don't know if they are a boy or a girl.

This is quite interesting. Speaking of facts etc which you seem to like.

I wonder how an adult gets to posting about safeguarding in this way

No idea because I have no prurient interest in (any) politicians kids.

No idea. I can take a guess why you’re perpetuating it though.

Araminta1003 · 07/05/2024 12:08

Well they are chucking the non doms out so prime Central London property is about to take a nose dive so they need those pesky “ex privateers” to kick start the property market by moving into catchment! All anyone ever gives a sh… about in this country has always been the property prices.

MN deleted all the threads on it if that helps

Araminta1003 · 07/05/2024 12:09

@Blossomtoes - I am not perpetuating. The rumour can be spun both ways. Poor Keir of course he is gender confused because he has to put his own child first. Some my have sympathy for that!

What the massively overpriced properties that incidentally isn’t just central London, that have totally changed the fabric and community atmosphere of London itself, that have led to people who were born and grew up there like myself, exiled to other parts of the country, are you suggesting that these will no longer be sitting empty and the prices will come crashing down to those last seen in the 1990s!??
