The past election/PM changes have been horrendous. The visceral disappointment was awful each time.

I can’t wait to actually celebrate this year. I know, I know, Labour are going to set fire to the economy and tax everyone £3mil each and it’ll cost you 4 trillion a month to send you kid to private school, and all women will perish immediately because only Tories know what a woman is Hmm

But finally! It’s been a long fucking time coming.

@Anuggetofpurestgreen Yes would be nice if if you can stick to facts wouldn't it? rather than just making them up.

You should NC to "Asmugnessofpurestgreen" suits your familiar posting style!

That's not very kind at all @Alexandra2001 I havent been mean to you!. I've been nothing but cheery and polite despite relentless snide little comments from you and your comrades trying to twist things. I'm perfectly happy to engage sensibly(and have done throughout) with straightforward, open-hearted posters who have made points I am interested in even if I don't agree with them. Its the chippy, underhand, snide and nasty lefty approach I don't like and so I'm perfectly happy to play them at their game and act as much of a bellend (of a different sort) as them.

Anyway, you will be disappointed to know I'm off to run the country now so we will have to leave this lovely chat here. (Could that be true, I wonder....what country could it be...?🧐)

Most of our MIU's in Cornwall have faced closure and restricted opening hours for many years now, all down to staff shortages.
The latest is Newquay, which closing two days per week, the alternatives are over 2 hours away in holiday traffic & are shutting at 8pm on other days.

Ambulances of course wouldn't be taking many patients to an MIU, they go to Treliske, the only AE in all of Cornwall but closures do mean patients who don't need extensive AE have to go as there is no alternative.

Its quite a re write of history to blame Labour after 14 years of the Tories slowly under funding the NHS, whilst increasing immigration and failing to address Social Care.

It was under Labour and no I am not in Cornwall. Your issues are not the same. This was Labour who closed it and then stood in Parliament and said they were proud of doing so. Do not gaslight me by saying its the last few years. This was almost 20 years ago. So no not under tories.

Alexandra2001 · 07/05/2024 07:33

I'm not gaslighting you.

I'm pointing out that under any study or survey, the NHS has got far worse over the last 14 years.

You also claimed that a new Labour administration would close ALL AE and Maternity services, thats clearly a script from Tory central office.

But do duplicate services sometimes need to close? of course, should they lead to longer waits etc, absolutely not.

JessS1990 · 07/05/2024 07:34

RheaRend · 07/05/2024 07:05

We call the one out of town 'ours' now as it is the closest and technically all we have available. I dont trust that them and can imagine they will shut MORE services. Not rocket science. They shut some leading to overflow at the one closest to us I expect they will shut more as they said they were proud of shutting ours before.

Have you considered standing for election on what is clearly a hugely important local issue?

Can I be clear, have there been ambulances queueing at the A+E that wasn't closest ever since your nearest one was shut or were there times when there wasn't a queue?

You’ll get more snide remarks but your posts have improved the thread 🙌

Quite amusing. I noticed MN deleted one of your "polite" posts to me.

Would you mind telling us where it is? I’d really like to understand the background.

Rats..I really have to get off this thread.

Yes I noticed they had but it won't be because I was in any way rude to you. I never am. I'm very careful about that. I wonder what it was for...maybe a suggestion about Diane Abbot that she wasn't that great? It's still in the replies I think ( although don't quote me as Jess thingy will pop up again). Anyway, let me know if you know what it was.

You re treating the thread like a one man comedy show, amusing but not very original.

Not very amusing either. The only person who appears to be entertained is our resident sycophant.

Oohh 😂

JessS1990 · 07/05/2024 08:02

Well I think I might go and check on the donkeys. See if they have any fact filled works of fiction to share.

Yes she did! Wasn't very nice of her. Poor me. Just trying to make my way in the world in a quiet and sensible manner and I get called smug out of the blue.

Araminta1003 · 07/05/2024 08:03

Unless the whole population works more and becomes more innovative and productive we are not going to get richer again. Just older and poorer. Nothing to do with which party gets in.
Taxing the mobile elite non doms and middle class private school parents isn’t going to make the country richer. Lots of those types have transferable skills and can get employment in other countries. Some may want to.

I suggest the die hard lefties on here start reading the Swiss and Swedish press to see what those country’s plan to do about an ageing population and a shrinking work force and the increased focus on tech. We need investment in the young and tech and be an attractive prospect for those. Otherwise it is just one downward trajectory. We will literally be competing with other countries over highly skilled young workers not just in medicine.

YANBU OP; I feel the same.

Labour have certainly got their work cut out for them after the GE, but I absolutely cannot wait to see the back of the ghastly government.

I'm actually such a loser that I'm genuinely excited for the GE night - planning to get in nice snacks and drinks and stay up all night getting immense enjoyment from seeing one Tory after another lose their seats. Grin

I LOVE election night 🎉🤣

I think im really funny. They do say the fun police of the left has destroyed comedy with their gloomy ways. I do think Mumsnet maybe doesn't need to be quite so earnest at times...we can still discuss the issues of the day without being mean to each other.

nutbrownhare15 · 04/05/2024 21:40

I remember 1997. It feels a bit like that. I think we will have 2-3 years of much better government where Labour does much good before it starts to become a bit more mediocre as is inevitable in government.

Didn’t you just say she was smug?

That doesn't come under "Snide"

Which would be underhand, cruel, unkind or indirect.

The tone of his/her posts are mocking and the one directed to me, inaccurate, as he knew full well i didn't bring Abbott into the thread, though attacks on Labour women seems to be common place & unless justified, should be resisted.

Its hard enough to get females into public life, without trying to cut them down when they do, which i'm sure most reasonable people would agree with.

ComeAlongPeggy · 04/05/2024 21:55

I’m actually hoping the tories stay in. I know, I know. But I don’t think Starmer is a good leader. Don’t @ me.

Also, for very good reasons my children are in independent schools.

Actually I wouldn’t have voted Tory (Starmer or no Starmer) if the tax on independent schools hadn’t been proposed. But it will be a disaster for us as a family.

So yeah. This doesn’t feel like 1997 to me.

You do know that 99% of us don't give a crap right?
It's disgusting that Private schools are allowed to be charities.
Do you not see how ridiculously unfair that is?
