The past election/PM changes have been horrendous. The visceral disappointment was awful each time.

I can’t wait to actually celebrate this year. I know, I know, Labour are going to set fire to the economy and tax everyone £3mil each and it’ll cost you 4 trillion a month to send you kid to private school, and all women will perish immediately because only Tories know what a woman is Hmm

But finally! It’s been a long fucking time coming.

I LOVE election night 🎉🤣

Me too. Knowing my luck he’ll call it for one of the two Thursdays in October I’m out of the country.

I think im really funny. They do say the fun police of the left has destroyed comedy with their gloomy ways. I do think Mumsnet maybe doesn't need to be quite so earnest at times...we can still discuss the issues of the day without being mean to each other.

Yes I knew @blossomtoes would post in about 30 seconds with that. Not sure it’s good for their well being to get so… full of negativity.

No matter I think they’re having a bad day, your posts have made me laugh, amongst the usual aggro

That doesn't come under "Snide"

Which would be underhand, cruel, unkind or indirect.

The tone of his/her posts are mocking and the one directed to me, inaccurate, as he knew full well i didn't bring Abbott into the thread, though attacks on Labour women seems to be common place & unless justified, should be resisted.

Its hard enough to get females into public life, without trying to cut them down when they do, which i'm sure most reasonable people would agree with.

Yes I did apologise for mixing you up with a different left-wing person. I have admitted I was wrong and was terribly contrite about it. What more can I do to make you feel better?? It's mumsnet so just say the word.

Snide being constant passive aggressive suggestions I haven't been using facts throughout. Which is untrue but I'm not minded to forensically go through all my posts and argue my case as that would be defensive and I don't care enough.

Hang on...why you calling me a "he"? Did you think I was actually Rishi?? That was actually a lie btw. I hold my hands up to that one, bang to rights.

Rats..I really have to get off this thread.

Yes I noticed they had but it won't be because I was in any way rude to you. I never am. I'm very careful about that. I wonder what it was for...maybe a suggestion about Diane Abbot that she wasn't that great? It's still in the replies I think ( although don't quote me as Jess thingy will pop up again). Anyway, let me know if you know what it was.

😂😂😂❤️

Yes, our MP was instrumental in closing ALL of our A n E services back in the day and maternity and then gloated about it in parliament saying they were 'proud of' what happened. It caused ambulances to queue outside for hours - much like everyone else is getting now - just ours began many years ago. Liberals tried to fight it but nope - every single once closed leaving mothers an hour round trip now for help and seriously ill an hour round trip. They also changed the ambulance reporting too meaning it looked like there was no impact both on waiting and on deaths.

Which MP was this @rhearend? This vaguely rings some bells with me, but I think there was more to it than this. Also, ambulance waiting times targets are usually set by the government and are standardised nationally. Or at least they were when Labour was in power.

Zonder · 07/05/2024 08:25

Seriously @Anuggetofpurestgreen you have a different, selective view of what's rude. You've been rude in several posts. Debate is one thing, smug rudeness is quite another. I don't think you're quite the witty, erudite comedian you think you are.

CremeBruleeLove · 07/05/2024 08:27

Make sure and encourage everyone you know to VTFTO. We can't be complacent just because of the local results.

I will never forget my disbelief around the Brexit result. It just seemed so unlikely that so many people would be so stupid.

So get out & vote whenever it us! And if they call it in October, which seems likely, because they think students won't have registered to vote in their new digs yet, please make sure your students/ kids register a postal vote or come home to do it. We need young people to engage ❤️

A new week for Sunak to continue to delay the inevitable. I bet he was glad yesterday was a bank holiday.

I wonder who is on the scapegoat roundabout this week?

That's cool. I think you are a profound individual full of wise views and opinions. I don't see why you have such an issue?

I make one suggestion @Zonder . If I may. Just don't rise to the teasing every bloody time! It's irresistible for me and I'd much rather be discussing other stuff on here re politics than spending time winding you and some of the other left wing people up. It's a terrible distraction from my otherwise earnest input on this thread.

Zonder · 07/05/2024 08:42

Perhaps it's you who needs to make an effort to control their behaviour, @Anuggetofpurestgreen it puts me right off engaging with you.

EasternStandard · 07/05/2024 08:44

It’s a beautiful day and on here it’s attacks like sycophant, smug, not clever. It can’t be good for the soul

The sun is shining and all that

Now that had to be a tease, naughty old @Zonder You try to engage with me all the time!

Anyway, seriously, I need to go and do stuff. So sadly for you, my little superfan, I'm going to have to go. But don't worry...some day, without warning, when you are being particularly left wing I shall pop up again DER DER DERRR!! And tease you all over again!!!

guinnessguzzler · 07/05/2024 08:56

Starmer isn't perfect but I am definitely looking forward to seeing the back of the Tories and I still have hope that he can do a good job. Agree about the 1997 vibe and although there's lots to say about Labour then too I do believe they did bring about some good. I keep getting Things Can Only Get Better in my head. Forget the manifesto, do Labour have a song for this election yet?

Another ex Labour member / supporter (there are many of us) wrote this on a different thread.

It is a perfect description of the shower of shit that Labour are today. Sadly.

’ I watched it [the Labour Party] become enthralled with identity politics, queer theory, antisemitism, misogyny. The drive for purity of thought and "if you don't agree with us on THIS (whatever) then you don't belong with us.

The political left has lost its moral compass. It now requires total obedience to an ideology..’

So true and nicely articulated.

I don't know about a song for Labour, but Sunak's could be California Dreamin'.

I find it interesting that two parties that by some accounts do not know what a woman is did best in terms of council seats in the local elections, and another that I have tell is captured also dramatically increased their number of seats.

Could it be that other issues are more important to the public?

We keep being told what huge vote losers Gaza and the trans issue are but that didn’t appear to be reflected last week. As you say, other issues take precedence. The parlous state of public services in a country where nothing works properly any more seems to be the biggest issue - and the Tory response is to offer tax cuts and invest even less.

"Fuck the Tories" has been popular on the football terraces for a while now, catchy tune 🎶
