AIBU for thinking that Sadiq Khan has won the London Mayoral Election?

For some strange reason it was put about yesterday that Susan Hall might have won, or that it was very close.

Wishful thinking on someone's part!

He has a budget of 17 billion though, that is not nothing. I would imagine that it would be possible to do a better job than Khan has with that much.

You should stand if you think it is so simple!

What specifically would you change about the way the budget is used?

Oblomov24 · 04/05/2024 21:07

It was never gonna happen. khan was always gonna win. Loads of my friends in different Sw London mosques were told that there vote for khan was expected.

I didn't say it was simple. I am not impressed with the rise in knife crime in London, so I would probably be focused on that.

Sureaseggs44 · 04/05/2024 17:41

Are none of you worried about the increase in knife crime 40 % since he has been in and the two tier policing of the met ?

genuine question

SK does not set police budgets - which have been decimated.

I think you just made that up.

Just for the record ULEZ was introduced by Boris Johnson.

Oblomov24 · 04/05/2024 21:18

@Westfacing
Why would I make that up? Many of my colleagues and friends at mosques in sw London said so. I'm not practicing st a mosque so I wouldn't know! I'm only going on what they 'say' they've been told. Are you disputing that?

Oblomov24 · 04/05/2024 21:21

@Westfacing
Would you like me to name the mosques? Because THAT I can do.

LBFseBrom · 04/05/2024 21:22

The important thing is that he stays in post, I'm happy with that.

Letsgodancing · 04/05/2024 21:23

On a lighter note there was a candidate called count binface who had a policy to price cap croissants who beat the Britain first candidate

Not quite. It was proposed by Boris, but actually introduced by Sadiq. Who knows whether Boris would have actually done it or not.

Also, the original ULEZ was worthwhile. The two expansions, not so much.

30% of the police budget comes from the mayor. He also sets out how London is policed and staffed. And he appoints the Met Police commissioner.

That's a fair amount of influence.

Good old Count Binface (formerly Lord Buckethead).

A man who has a bin on his head and STILL managed to make a better job of filling in the nomination forms than Lawrence Fox 🤣

Both not quite true @HappiestSleeping but I'm not schooling you in semantics today, good evening

My source was the mayor's own stats, so you are correct in that you aren't schooling me in anything.

Good evening to you too.

It's a victory for Londoners!

Cleaner air
Less respiratory paediatric deaths
Free school meals for kids
Free public transport for kids
Decent man with personal integrity unlike every Tory

I feel sorry for people who don't get to benefit from Khan's policies tbh

I feel sorry for people who support this useless twat. Utter disaster for London, anyone would be better then him, if your journey to work takes 1hr45 min instead of 45 min then you would understand
And before anyone asks no i can't work from home...

Yes, everything is about you.

Wonderful news! I voted for Sadiq again. Clean air, free school meals and public transport!

I think you must be joking about good transport in London , constant train strikes/ delays, reduced bus service and LTNS everywhere

Livelovebehappy · 04/05/2024 21:56

I have no words….I honestly have no idea why any sane person would vote in that numpty……

As this thread shows, many are not sane 😉

Cleaner air? Well who needs that? Not Susan Hall obviously. She looks put out. Maybe she's had her purse stolen by thieving London yobs like before.

The ULEZ only brought about cleaner air in the first iteration. By the Mayor's own admission the two expansions didn't make any material difference to air quality. They are about making money.

For some bizarre reason ever since Boris ceased to be mayor the Tories have not bothered to put forward a credible candidate. So given the choice of some complete non entities and lunatics or sticking with an underwhelming and lacklustre Khan who is at least a known quantity he was always going to get in again. Voter turn out numbers will be interesting.

There's a theory that the Tories don't actually want the London mayor job, because then they'll be responsible for all its problems and can't use it in their culture war bullshit.

Look at all the thickos around the country who don't even live in London or know anything about it, constantly ranting about no-go areas and sharia and 15 minute gulags. Keeps the Tory lunatic fringe revved up.

Livelovebehappy · 04/05/2024 23:34

The irony! Calling the rest of the UK thick when the dumbarses in London have voted this guy in. Again. The first time - you could be forgiven as you didn't know fully who you were getting. The second time - a bit silly to vote him in when you now have the gist of the guy. But bugger me - voting him in a third time - just no excuse...
