To think she thought I was 10 years younger than I am

I was at the dentist yesterday. The receptionist asked my date of birth first, and I gave it , and she then asked my name. She then quiried if it was the ' somethingth' or the 'twenty- somethingth' and I confirmed the correct one. ( I referred to the month by name).

She said there was nobody coming up. Then she asked if I was at the correct dentists. I was because I always go there. She asked me if I was sure I was I was actually registered because they had no patients with that dob 1993. I was born in 1983. She finds me , and I have my check up.

Then I've been thinking, she didn’t check the year at all, so she must have took me as being 31, 10 years younger than I am .

But according to mumsnet, nobody can ever be mistaken for 10 years younger than their actual age, in the real world.

That happened to me. I was told where to hang my coat and to sit down. I did well with the colouring, though.

Ask her to borrow a uniform and sit with some yr7s and see if anyone notices.

But OP were you lying in the reclining chair, with your mouth wide open, with plastic goggles on? If so it's a bit of a stretch to think anyone could guess your age by appearance!! (I'd take it though) 😁

Plenty of people look 10 years older or younger. A lot is due to build, clothing and body language, and how early/easily someone develops wrinkles.

That's obviously hyperbole, nobody thinks she looks 12.

Saying someone looks about 12 is a common saying, it's not to be taken literally.

The fact your daughter in her late 20s is screenshotting these things for you does make her sound a bit immature though so maybe that's part of it.

I had that at the breast screening clinic. Gave name, date of birth and handed over the appointment letter. Nurse asked if the letter was mine. Erm yes. She asked ‘and you are over 50?’ Yes. The other nurse said “We thought you were much younger.”

It does happen.
