To think she thought I was 10 years younger than I am

I was at the dentist yesterday. The receptionist asked my date of birth first, and I gave it , and she then asked my name. She then quiried if it was the ' somethingth' or the 'twenty- somethingth' and I confirmed the correct one. ( I referred to the month by name).

She said there was nobody coming up. Then she asked if I was at the correct dentists. I was because I always go there. She asked me if I was sure I was I was actually registered because they had no patients with that dob 1993. I was born in 1983. She finds me , and I have my check up.

Then I've been thinking, she didn’t check the year at all, so she must have took me as being 31, 10 years younger than I am .

But according to mumsnet, nobody can ever be mistaken for 10 years younger than their actual age, in the real world.

Sympathies. Did it clear up?

It did thank you

But then the bloody nappy rash kicked off.

It's one thing after another. I tell what annoyed me - those clips on the high chair. They don't half dig in.

Nah thankfully mine is a state of the art number as I'm from a three figure home.

I do have issues with my rubber knickers though, it's causing the rash I think

NoDought · 05/05/2024 22:15

You’re really over thinking this. If I check a dob some people really don’t look their age both sides of the spectrum, she was just looking for what she thought she heard. Not really worth a mumsnet post

Don't ask her, she's just a baby.

I genuinely got stuck in my old highchair in the garage when I was 8

That must have been what, last year? You look so young.

Thanks, I know. You're great and also really young looking because you're so young.

Why thank you! It is said to me very regularly so it's obviously true. Particularly by medical professionals in very pressured situations, when you'd think they'd be otherwise occupied, but no, they comment on my youthfulness 😇.

She was hardly going to say "1993...blimey you've had a hard paper round" was she?!

This nails it. Even if she actually did the maths, which she probably didn’t, not piping up that you didn’t appear to have been born in 1993 in no way equates to her thinking that you actually do look 31. Think about it OP.

It was my birthday recently and the kids I work with at school put me at 15 years younger than I actually am. I'm definitely taking the compliment, not that kids never get ages right 🤣.

I'm not in the least bit surprised! Does it annoy you when they won't listen to you and offer you a sticker?

Oh, it does. No wonder I can't get the proper medication.

Yes, I do doubt it. Suggesting that it's because there could be a 20 year sibling age gap isn't really what they were claiming.

I didn't think they mentioned age.

No indeed. Certainly not a "20 year sibling gap".
She made a point about how young her partner looks. As well you know.

Iaminthefly · 06/05/2024 13:05

I'm mid 40s and quite often get people telling me they thought I was early 30s!

It does happen. Despite what Mumsnet says!

I think that's pretty good, in my experience kids seem to think anyone over 20 is a pensioner. Enjoy the compliment.
