So much negativity and sadness, so AIBU to try for a thread of small (or large) joyful things?

I’ll start: the dawn chorus is beautiful today and I have decided to adopt it as my welcome to Wednesday from the world.

I've had a go at planting some vegetables this year. They're in pots on the window sill and are flourishing.
The weather should be good to plant them out side this week.
I haven't got a clue about what I'm doing but it's really exciting!

The cherry blossom tree outside my house is still in full bloom and looks gorgeous!

We had a breeze yesterday and some of the blossoms came off the trees. Walking up the lane beside the house is like walking on a pink snowdrift!

My housework is done (mostly yesterday) and dinner is made so I can concentrate on my masters work. I had been feeling quite overwhelmed with it all but spoke to my tutor yesterday and we came up with a plan so I’m feeling much more motivated and like I can actually achieve it!

MonsteraMama · 01/05/2024 09:04

Little joy: I heard a cuckoo in the woods at the bottom of my garden this morning. I haven't heard one since I was a child and it brought back some memories of childhood springtime (although perhaps not so joyful for the poor little birds who are now raising the big chungus)

Big joy: My gorgeous sister who has been trying to have a baby for years and had given up after her third round of IVF failed last year found out yesterday that she's fallen pregnant naturally and is actually about 18 weeks along. She just thought she was getting fat lmao. She's coming over for a celebratory lunch and I'm just so, so happy for her I can't wait.

@MantisAndCrumpet download the Merlin app to your phone and it will tell you which birds are singing. I stand at our back door, cuppa in one hand, phone in the other, learning that we have a robin and a rook and sparrows and dunnocks out there somewhere around us. It's very soothing.

CumbersomeRobes · 01/05/2024 09:28

I love this thread. Congratulations on the lovely news people have shared.
My dd has managed to go to school for the third day in a row and I have started a lovely new jigsaw of days and plants!

stayathomer · 01/05/2024 09:28

It’s sunny!!!!!

Imicola · 01/05/2024 09:30

I slept like a log last night for the first time in ages.

And the SNP and much shite that goes along with them seems to be falling to pieces.

CommeIlFaut · 01/05/2024 09:35

Our cuckoo is in full voice this morning. And our summer robin made his first appearance yesterday.

On a more mundane note, DS12 is considering trying smoked salmon linguine for supper tonight, and so I live in hope he might be getting less choosy with his food.

It's my midweek day off and the sun is shining. I dropped my children off at school and went for a run. I'm going to nip out shopping and have a long walk before I pick them up later.
Lots of small things, it's going to be a lovely day.

SewingBees · 01/05/2024 09:51

My daughter woke early due to the light morning, snuck in bed with me and cuddled back to sleep for an hour.

DH did the school run so I'm still in PJs, while the solar panels heat the water for my shower. Will start work later when I feel ready - flexible working from home is the best.

We have seven cygnets on our lake. Every year we look forward to cygnet spotting.

The rockery is looking good and the weigela too. I love the fresh green at this time of year.

I need to count my blessings because it’s a bit of a struggle just now, so thank you OP for the reminder to do so.

After my wife passed, one of my neighbours brought round a huge amount of food as she was concerned I wouldn't be cooking.

Over time she's become an extra gran to our DC, and comes to us most Sundays for a roast, she loves roast potatoes and Yorkshires. She is great with the DC and is teaching them Urdu.

The best thing is my mum moved to be near us, and they get on like a house on fire. Going out on daytrips together etc.

She was a bit lonely with her family miles away, and now she's spending time with us and made a new friend.

This has made me smile.

I'm so sorry about your wife though ♥️

I have a dentist appointment today. I suffer from anxiety and am panicking a bit. What cheered me up was that I realised my appointment is at 2:30 😁 ( it made me laugh anyway 😊)

I'm sitting having a coffee watching all the birds in the garden .So many different types and a huge number visit our really small garden .
They do cost me a fortune but bring me loads of pleasure.

swedex · 01/05/2024 10:37

What a lovely thread I'm currently getting my first pedicure as a treat, the sun is shining and it's a bank holiday here today off to see what the lake is like for a dip this afternoon too!

Catsmere · 01/05/2024 10:44

It was a perfect autumn day today, and I had a very pleasant afternoon knitting with friends.

Well jealous - I have a crown appointment at 3. Not nearly as funny!

Hope it goes well. Mine is a deep clean 😱

The responses so far have been lovely ☺️.

It's the first day of May, the sun is out and the little red breast was by my window saying hello this morning.

If the sun stays I will have my coffee on the balcony just outside my door, and hopefully glimpse my neighbour in the flat next door. He’s a lovely young man, but either goes out very early or at nights, so I often miss him.

I'm also counting down to my holiday in 3 weeks. Really looking forward to it as my last one was in 2022.

RedRobyn2021 · 01/05/2024 11:39

We have some cows and calves up our lane and they are soooo cute, all different colours; black&white, brown, grey

Bananadramallamas · 01/05/2024 11:55

It's 17 degrees and I'm wearing my sandals! 😁
