To think colleague has bitched about pot noodle

Last week a colleague said to me "I would never have thought of a pot noodle for lunch!" which I thought was a bit random.

This morning we have all received an email from comms about keeping fridge clean and "avoiding overly smelly and slurpy foods" in lunch room.

Were you eating a pot noodle at the time?

Sorry that might not have been clear from OP: Yes!

Are you part of the advertising team trying to drum up interest about their new TV campaign?

TBH I wouldn’t have thought of a pot noodle for lunch as I doubt it is really classed as food

Gruffallowhydidntyouknow · 29/04/2024 14:05

I'm sorry but they are disgustingly antisocial things with the smell and thr slurry eating sounds.

Think of it as a favour to your health.

Booksoverbros · 29/04/2024 14:06

The sound of someone eating a pot noodle makes me want to slam my head into the table.

Noisy and smelly foods aren't appropriate for small, communal work spaces.

Baileyqueen · 29/04/2024 14:15

Sounds to me like something has been said about the pot noodle. Personally I’d rather smell a pot noodle than someone’s leftovers from their tea the night before, that can be grim.

BirdsofAmerica · 29/04/2024 14:19

I think having a slurpy, smelly Pot Noodle for lunch in a confined work environment is pretty anti-social.

Nellieinthebarn · 29/04/2024 14:20

I think pot noodles smell better than tuna or egg sandwiches or warmed up last nights shepherds pie or curry. And a cup a soup can be a lot slurpier depending on who is eating it.

Psyberbaby · 29/04/2024 14:22

Yeah I was originally only bringing in sandwiches but then I saw people were heating up all sorts of random shit in the microwave so thought it would be fair game?!

But are you a slurper? I can tolerate many things in a colleague but a colleague who indulges in a good slurp is too much

NoahVale · 29/04/2024 14:22

i would take offense op,
you might bring in soup and slurp
you might heat up fish in the microwave

people are going to bitch
i work with people who bitch about banana skins!

Wendysfriend · 29/04/2024 14:22

Oh dear you eating a pot noodle isn't going too go down well here, they are the food of the devil and someone is going to give you the science part of how much sugar, salt, calories is in it.

FelicityBeedle · 29/04/2024 14:22

A pot noodle is a perfectly normal work lunch, I can’t believe these responses. I work shifts and we all have something hot as a rule, often soup (slurpy), leftovers (smelly?), pot noodle or mug shot (slurpy and smelly??). Why has eating perfectly normal foods been demonised

Greengumby · 29/04/2024 14:25

Personally I’m not a fan of them (taste not smell) but I would just carry on if I were you. There is no allergy risk or health risk to others. Unless work is going to provide you with a ‘suitable’ lunch, they don’t get a say on what you choose to eat.
Plus, it doesn’t specifically mention pot noodles so I’d just play dumb if it is ever raised with you directly.

MrsClatterbuck · 29/04/2024 14:26

A lunch room is for I don't know maybe eating lunch. Haven't had a pot noodle in years but didn't think they were that smelly. Now if you had had kippers or a strong curry maybe they would have a point. It's not like. You were eating at your desk. Maybe go for a less smelly pot noodle or maybe they just need to get over themselves.

BogRollBOGOF · 29/04/2024 14:26

I had horrendous nausea when pregnant and was losing weight rapidly despite gaining bump and didn't have much to spare in the first place.
A colleague guessed I was pregnant from the daily lunch of Pot Noodle and pot of jelly/custard which was far more nutrious than starvation and dry gagging at attempts to eat "real food". I was at a point of indulging any kind of calorie whim that could make it past a gag reflex.

I didn’t think wet cardboard had any calories 🤷🏻‍♀️

Washingtonmachine · 29/04/2024 14:28

Man, I want a Pot Noodle now.

Nellieinthebarn · 29/04/2024 14:29

We all know they are just starch and e-numbers, but sometimes a filthy pot noodle really hits the spot. And to be fair they are not marketed as health food.

mitogoshi · 29/04/2024 14:31

Ignore, it's fine. Dp takes leftovers and the only complaint is i don't send in enough for them too!

mrsbyers · 29/04/2024 14:31

Another benefit of working at home - love a pot noodle for lunch once a week

Snugglemonkey · 29/04/2024 14:34

I think it is anti social to be slurping anything in a communal space.

Megifer · 29/04/2024 14:36

If I was you I'd assume that email was directed at someone else tbh (unless you do slurp, just dial that down if so), PNs are fine and no more smelly than soups, pasties etc.

Just ignore and carry on!!

MrsTerryPratchett · 29/04/2024 14:38

Don't slurp. Seems easy.

Because a lot of people are miserable bastards.
