To think colleague has bitched about pot noodle

Last week a colleague said to me "I would never have thought of a pot noodle for lunch!" which I thought was a bit random.

This morning we have all received an email from comms about keeping fridge clean and "avoiding overly smelly and slurpy foods" in lunch room.

OP posts:

I'd ask for clarification about what foods they consider slurpy and smelly, perhaps they will realised how ridiculous it is

The message specifically mentions slurpy so I wonder if you are a noisy eater OP?

I mention this because lots of people have misophonia which is a genetic neurological condition that can make sufferers feel homicidal when they hear noisy eating like slurping sounds or lip smacking.

It really is no fun at all for sufferers to be stuck in a room with someone who is totally oblivious to how much distress they are causing.

I don’t like eating noises at all but given that the OP is talking about a lunch room, I don’t think anyone is ‘stuck’ in there. The offended person could go and sit in their car or at their desk; that’s what I’d do. My sensitivity to eating noises is my issue to solve, not other people’s.

"Casual racism if your colleague isn't white English and I'm making (big) assumptions here he isn't as goat curry isn't generally available at the local takeout."

What the fuck? Yes it is.

Its only acceptable if you use this 🤣

The terms "smelly" & "slurpy" are what are offensive here. I suggest sanctions or perhaps redundancy for the member of "comms" responsible for these insults to the English language.

LifesTooShortForYourNonsense · 30/04/2024 18:28

What you eat for your lunch is no one else’s business. As you were.

The sound of someone eating a pot noodle makes me want to slam my head into the table.

Noisy and smelly foods aren't appropriate for small, communal work spaces.

Yes just go eat it in your car to avoid upsetting anyone 😜

I like a soba noodles for a work lunch. I dont find them at all slurpy..I always thought pot noodles were aimed at work lunches. Sometimes you want something like that.
Used to work with someone who ate a whole raw carrot.or a whole pepper eaten like an apple..both of which are v noisy .

I might have accidentally bought that plate because I love it so much.

DoughBallss · 30/04/2024 21:45

Nothing wrong with a pot noodle! I don’t have mine overly watery though tbf

Whydoikeeprejoining · 30/04/2024 21:56

I'm partial to a pot of filth.
I worked somewhere where they all ate heated up left overs, there was some awful smells. Anyone "new" was not allowed to eat anything that had a smell. Fucking weird, passive aggressive place that was.

IBegYourBiggestPardon · 30/04/2024 22:27

My only complaint (inwardly) would be I'd also be wanting a pot noodle, but can't eat them anymore. Never tried the Bombay bad boy one but the other don't smell imo
