To think colleague has bitched about pot noodle

Last week a colleague said to me "I would never have thought of a pot noodle for lunch!" which I thought was a bit random.

This morning we have all received an email from comms about keeping fridge clean and "avoiding overly smelly and slurpy foods" in lunch room.

Yeah I was originally only bringing in sandwiches but then I saw people were heating up all sorts of random shit in the microwave so thought it would be fair game?!

I think if there's a microwave any warm food is fair game. Plenty of stronger smelling stuff than a pot noodle.

I agree it's very antisocial. I never see anyone have a pot noddle at work due to the smell. You can make very nice jacket potatoes in microwave with butter and melted cheese...in case you like hot food at lunchtime x

Stay tuned for tomorrow's post on someone monopolising the microwave during lunchtime.

MinervaMcGonagallsCat · 29/04/2024 18:09

I'm partial to a beef and tomato one but it's fair to say smelly food is a no no in communal work spaces.

Bax765 · 29/04/2024 18:09

I don't think a Pot Noodle is particularly smelly! And I don't think they can ban you from "slurpy" foods, if you're eating them in the kitchen rather than at your desk.

Hopefully the timing of the email is just a coincidence. I'd carry on as you are - Pot Noodle is a perfectly normal lunch!

AgnesX · 29/04/2024 18:12

So many things that people eat are smelly especially when microwaved. Maybe the answer is to stay in the break room or kitchen and not waft it through the office and at your desk.

MzHz · 29/04/2024 18:25

Another one for ignore

its not smelly, wouldn’t ever ‘clutter up the fridge’ and it’s up to you what you eat

Riapia · 29/04/2024 18:27

A pot noodle is an offence against the senses.
😉😁😁

Nothing smells as foul as a freshly opened John West tuna light lunch!

I see your John West tuna and I raise you tinned squid…..eaten straight of the tin….AT HIS DESK😱

Charlize43 · 29/04/2024 18:32

...They've said nothing about bringing in a desktop BBQ and a rotisserie chicken rack...

Go for it!

I get a thirty minute lunch break. By the time I’ve done a jacket potato in the microwave my break is practically over, so, no thanks.

valensiwalensi · 29/04/2024 18:49

I’m now going to have a pot noodle for lunch tomorrow!

WhamBamThankU · 29/04/2024 18:53

Everyone knows that aldi curry pot noodles are the GOAT

Never go to Asia. They think it’s rude not to slurp.

I would not. I have misophonia, slurping is one of my trigger noises and I would just want to kill myself if I were surrounded by it.

Also I put less water than it says so there's very little/no sauce with them and no slurping required.

WhamBamThankU · 29/04/2024 18:55

@PostItInABook I microwave a jacket potato the morning/night before work and reheat. Zero problems.

Pheasantsmate · 29/04/2024 14:04

Are you part of the advertising team trying to drum up interest about their new TV campaign?

TBH I wouldn’t have thought of a pot noodle for lunch as I doubt it is really classed as food

I agree. I gag at the thought of it. No offence to those who like Pot Noodles, live and let live, each to their own and all that.

TiptoeThroughTheToadstools · 29/04/2024 18:59

I can't believe people are calling Pot noodles anti social, it's just fucking pasta. I don't think your work can dictate what you have for lunch. I would ask to see where in your contract or their policies are that state this if you were seriously challenged about it. People really do get offended/annoyed by the most miniscule things and personally I wouldn't encourage it by changing my lunch.

TonTonMacoute · 29/04/2024 19:00

I loathe the smell of Pot Noodles (it's not unpleasant as such, just very strong) but it's a lunch room FFS. If it was in an open plan office or it was pointing out a retail space fair enough, but surely you can eat slightly smelly food in a lunch room!

fettybord · 29/04/2024 19:02

I have a colleague who cooks salmon. That makes me want to vomit. It smells so strongly.

Porn noodles don't bother me though.

Totally agree @maudelovesharold !

I can tolerate just about anything but fish in an office.

Sorry that might not have been clear from OP: Yes!

You should just do what an ex colleague used to do; transfer it into a plastic tub at home, and call it "ramen"!

Shootingstars999 · 29/04/2024 19:06

Nothing wrong with Pot Noodle.
Quick and easy.

HesterPrincess · 29/04/2024 19:08

One of my colleagues eats the strangest food ever - he brings it in the next day to reheat and the smell from the microwave has often put me off my own lunch. It's bloody grim to eat smelly food in a confined space. Highlights have been an egg curry, goat curry, and leftover chinese takeaway .... reheated.

It's a standing joke that he reheats road kill because it smells like decayed reheated badger....

bonzaitree · 29/04/2024 19:09

I’d be slurping down a prawn bhuna tomorrow 🤣
