To think colleague has bitched about pot noodle

Last week a colleague said to me "I would never have thought of a pot noodle for lunch!" which I thought was a bit random.

This morning we have all received an email from comms about keeping fridge clean and "avoiding overly smelly and slurpy foods" in lunch room.

OP posts:

The message specifically mentions slurpy so I wonder if you are a noisy eater OP?

I mention this because lots of people have misophonia which is a genetic neurological condition that can make sufferers feel homicidal when they hear noisy eating like slurping sounds or lip smacking.

It really is no fun at all for sufferers to be stuck in a room with someone who is totally oblivious to how much distress they are causing.

I don't have a lot of sympathy for this. If you're that precious about the sound of other people eating in a shared space like a staffroom then wear earplugs or listen to music on headphones while you eat, don't try to dictate what everyone else can and can't eat.

Curry pot noodle.
Chicken super noodles.

@Windintrees

DemBonesDemBones · 29/04/2024 17:11

If you must eat one you should do it in your own house. They absolutely stink!

NoahVale · 29/04/2024 17:14

when i was younger i hate beef pot noodle, because they were vegetarian.

WhoppingBigBackside · 29/04/2024 17:14

@C8H10N4O2 , non-crunchy mahoosive MN salad then.
@Windintrees , bombay bad boy

Oh dear you eating a pot noodle isn't going too go down well here, they are the food of the devil and someone is going to give you the science part of how much sugar, salt, calories is in it.

Yummy though.

My last meal would be a pot noodle sandwich.

All pot noodles are vegetarian.

In fact the vast majority of them are in fact - trigger warning ahead — vegan 😮.

mrsdineen2 · 29/04/2024 17:34

What's a pot noodle? I don't believe I've seen those in the organic farm shop I buy everything from.

CammyChameleon · 29/04/2024 17:37

Slurpyness and food smells in the lunch room - what a shock.

I remember at an old job a coworker once got out nail clippers and started cutting his nails with the trimmings flying round his table and the floor, now that was a bit grim!🤣

SirenSays · 29/04/2024 17:39

I'd hope you weren't slurping it. That's gross and unnecessary, but yes people do like to complain. I once had a man try to tell me my Crisps were too crunchy.

Allshallbewell2021 · 29/04/2024 17:41

My ds loves a Thai mug shot.

The SMELL 🤢. The clinketty clink of someone eating noodles.

Stinky food really makes me barf at lunchtime

You're free to police OP's food but how dare someone else police you?

catgirl1976 · 29/04/2024 17:42

I don’t think it’s appropriate to eat a pot noodle on the office. They stink and they ARE slurpy. Very antisocial

SabreIsMyFave · 29/04/2024 17:42

Lol no simply pointing out there are ways to eat noodles that don't involve slurping loud enough for the office to hear.
I'm not sure how you eat large crisps without crunching but if you want to give it a try I'll happily watch you try to python swallow them down 🤷🏼‍♀️

Gruffallowhydidntyouknow · 29/04/2024 14:05

I'm sorry but they are disgustingly antisocial things with the smell and thr slurry eating sounds.

Think of it as a favour to your health.

That's so funny because I went through a phase of having one every day for a month and I swear everyone commented on how amazing they smelled and how they were buying them. And they did!!

But then I sickened myself of them

outsidethemug · 29/04/2024 17:47

Within reason, no one should be policing what anyone eats. A pot noodle is a perfectly reasonable lunch time choice.

It also strikes me that your company could get themselves into a complicated/culturally insensitive situation by doing this - curry can be considered smelly, ramen is meant to be slurped.

Just seems like if you start pulling the thread of foods people are intolerant about it could get quite nasty

I don't care how you ear your crisps. Go wild. Just don't be a massive hypocrite.

I think pot noodles smell better than tuna or egg sandwiches or warmed up last nights shepherds pie or curry. And a cup a soup can be a lot slurpier depending on who is eating it.

Absolutely!
Pot noodles are messy things to eat- ooh that monosodium glutamate smells so lovely- they remind me of the stables in winter when we used to eat them to try to stay warm-

I find the sound and sight of people eating on trains and coaches really irritating ( Don’t d coaches these days )

Some people stuff their faces the whole journey-
Smelly food is 🤢.

Egg is particularly antisocial.

SabreIsMyFave · 29/04/2024 17:42

This you @Psyberbaby ???

Pot noodle was very hard to eat after my dog passed a thrashing roundworm.

🤢

( Dog is routinely wormed as well! )
She must have picked one up from the environment- she’s now wormed monthly rather than every three months)

Londonrach1 · 29/04/2024 17:58

I agree it's very antisocial. I never see anyone have a pot noddle at work due to the smell. You can make very nice jacket potatoes in microwave with butter and melted cheese...in case you like hot food at lunchtime x

Canwegetanothercat · 29/04/2024 18:01

A girl that I work with brings leftovers for her lunch and she eats it at her desk and it smells really bad. It smells like a mix of dog food and airplane food. But not once has it ever occurred to me to complain about it. Food has a smell… people can eat what they want, it’s tough

I think this is one of these posts which make me realise how different MN is from the real world. I have worked in numerous different places and a Pot Noodle was never seen as an inappropriate thing to eat. It was always a perfectly normal lunch option.

Newpancake92 · 29/04/2024 18:04

I honestly can't believe people say it's inappropriate for someone to eat a pot noddle during their lunch break at work 😂 I'd never bat an eyelid.

I once heard of someone (not a colleague, just someone I know) being surprised that people take in their 'proper meal' leftovers into work and reheat it as she thought the smell would be too much. It seemed so odd but I thought it's just her who could be annoyed by something like that - apparently not 😲😳

frankentall · 29/04/2024 14:40

Because a lot of people are miserable bastards.

Couldn't have said it better 😂🌷
