These people have been protesting for years, but you don’t seem to be worried about Christians rising up and lynching gay people on the streets of Britain.

Why is one bloke with a sign in Germany causing mass panic about British Muslims imposing Sharia law on Weybridge? 🤔

@Saschka Errr... that's in Topeka, Kansas in the USA. It's not in Weybridge!

Teddleshon · 03/05/2024 09:54

Westboro Baptists?! Not exactly like for like is it- there are 3.9 million Muslims in Britain and according to a recent survey 40% would be in favour of the introduction of sharia law in Britain.

Louloulouenna · 03/05/2024 10:23

Funnily enough Hamas etc would agree with the Westboro church on pretty much every single point!

Most Christians I know are not like that.

The fact that you are applauding the statement that it is Islam that is the problem shows me all i need to know about your ‘feminism’ thanks! Now I don’t have to waste time responding to your feigned concern for Muslim women

Woman are persecuted in many Islamic countries. I am as concerned with the death of Mahsa Amini and other Muslim women as I am with the rape and parading around the streets in Gaza of Israeli women. This is because they are all women who have suffered at the hands of men, this should not be a difficult concept.

And I don’t know a single Muslim calling for a Caliphate.

This (small) rally was in Germany. People on this thread are panicking about a caliphate being imposed in the UK.

Exactly - there are extremist nutjobs in every religion. Not reflective of the average worshipper. I’m sure even Buddhism has a few psychos.

And ten’s of thousands of women and children have been murdered and more suffering because of israel.
It’s horrible.

I’m sure you are very concerned about that too.

Burma is currently ruled by Buddhist psychos!

Any religion or belief system can be used by authoritarian rulers to oppress their people,

Of course I am, but if Hamas accepted the ceasefire, released the hostages and stopped using women and children as human shields then that would save an awful of lives. Men make the war, but it’s always women and children who suffer the consequences most, on all sides.

And in 40 days time when that ceasefire wold expire?

What would happen?

Maybe they should have thought of that when they broke the ceasefire on 7th of October and took all those hostages, which is defined as a war crime under the Geneva Convention, and just maybe they could stop using the civilian population as human shields.

NerdWhoEatsMedlar · 03/05/2024 20:41

Maybe it is time to admit that current thinking and strategies are really rather useless.

People need to get around a negotiating table and work out how to solve the problem. The current "save Netanyahu's arse" is a fecking disaster for normal Israelis.

Do people want a world where Palestinians and Israelis are equal or not?

Papyrophile · 03/05/2024 21:33

Agree that there should be negotiations, but I don't think it is possible until Hamas admit defeat. Israel will not step down because Israel is the world's only Jewish state.

NerdWhoEatsMedlar · 03/05/2024 21:35

Negotiations where one side has to admit defeat first, are not negotiations.

Papyrophile · 03/05/2024 21:44

Reasonable thought, not disageeing so far, but where is the point of engaging in discussion? I suggest it has to happem more quietly.

NerdWhoEatsMedlar · 03/05/2024 21:56

Where is the point of engaging in discussion?
Basic human decency.

Discussion that is quieter is coercion.

Shja · 03/05/2024 22:20

‘A Save the Children's report in July 2023 showed that even prior to October 7, Palestinian children arrested by Israeli forces faced immense emotional and physical abuse, with four out of five - 86% - of them being beaten, and 69% strip-searched.

Each year approximately 500-700 Palestinian children, some as young as 12 years old, are detained and prosecuted in the Israeli military court system. The most common charge is stone throwing’

Shja · 03/05/2024 22:21

‘Israel has the dubious distinction of being the only country in the world that systematically prosecutes between 500 and 700 children in military courts each year that lack fundamental fair trial rights’

NerdWhoEatsMedlar · 03/05/2024 22:24

In the UK it is very unusual to be held in custody for more than 24hr. I understand that this is not the norm in some countries.

‘One of the most insidious lies repeated ad nauseam by Israel’s supporters is that “there was a ceasefire on Oct. 6th, 2023.” Let’s have a look.
On Oct. 5, 2023, Israeli forces killed 3 Palestinians in the West Bank, including Abd al-Rahman Atta & Hudhayfah Fares. Then, Israeli forces prevented medics from reaching the victims and took their bodies hostage, a decades-old Israeli policy used to gain leverage in negotiations with Palestinians. The practice has been described as “psychological torture,” since it leaves the families of the victims with the false hope that their loved ones may still be alive’
