but you live in the UK? if you want to live in a country with blasphemy laws, find one and try it for a while. In the mean time, of course, you can feel very free not to blaspheme. What you can't do is force anyone else to agree to that. There is no room in a modern society for laws on blasphemy, but there is room for laws about intolerance of religion and hate speech. We have that, if you are finding people breaking those laws, report them.

As for decency - meh. That is subjective. I don't need a holy book or holy man (because it is always men) telling me what to wear and to do what my husband or other male relative tells me. How about we turn it around and men should respect women? That would be a lot more use to all of us.

again No. There is a reason for disestablishment. I have no desire for some bloke who is influenced by a book written by a load of other men hundreds of year ago to be in charge of me.

Why do you want blasphemy laws? What will it achieve? Apart from lead to islamaphobia

Arabs and asians are often equated with it though, and considering the amount of anti-Palestinian, anti-Muslim, anti-Pakistani propaganda I've seen over the last few weeks, I can confidently say I know what the OP is trying to do here and the fact they are racist.

Religion and race are two different things. It’s ok not to agree with a particular religion, it doesn’t make you racist.

Interesting that all the posters mocking the OP for using Fox News, as a source.

Not discrediting this has actually happened. You’re not interested that there are people calling for a caliphate but it does interest you someone uses Fox News?

Also, it’s using the words ‘solution’ on the march in Germany, we all know what that is alluding to. I can see from the posters on here already, that that wouldn’t bother them much either.

This whole, YABU to be scared is the same gaslighting nonsense that’s used to silence women and children.

So yes, OP. YANBU if you are scared

I agree with this. And I don’t believe anyone uses the word Lösung (solution) innocently in Germany and in relation to Jews.

As for Fox News being the problem — the protest happened, the placards were there. But hey, let’s pretend nasty things aren’t real, la la la not listening….

Show me a poll of Uk muslims which supports what you are saying.

Wait so another poster is saying Muslims are decent and tolerant people, most don't want blasphemy laws and state-sanctioned dress codes...

And you're saying, no - actually they do want puritanical laws?

Doing your bit to encourage Islamophobia Shamima😂

I don't think most Muslims want this, even if they stand by principles of modesty and not blaspheming others, thank god.

More than the sign on Fox News

Brefugee · 29/04/2024 20:10

they are abhorrent. And the UK isn't the place to have them. As i said: why do you want them?

Whingebob · 29/04/2024 20:11

There is nothing "indecent" about blasphemy laws

You know what decent mean, yes?

Decent as in nice folks.

Not indecent as in state-sanctioned dress code.

Yes, and I'm guessing a state sanctioned dress code would impact women more than men.

Blasphemy laws are incompatible with democracy.

MotherofGorgons · 29/04/2024 20:16

I saw that @Noicant and it's also quite a small sample size. There don't seem to be any definitive polls on blasphemy one way or the other. In the meantime, I am going to assume that radicals of all religions are in a minority.

I agree that the rise of the right in response is very worrying, too. And it will get worse if you allow religion into legislation. No men telling me what to do, thanks.

https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2016/apr/11/british-muslims-strong-sense-of-belonging-poll-homosexuality-sharia-law

This is old but it suggests 23% of muslims surveryed support introducing sharia law. Thats definitely not a majority.

How sad is this. When many Muslims are seeking freedom in the UK. Yet this poll shows half want to take freedom away from others. What is this world coming to

@Chocchip09

"The ‘hate’ you talk about is not against the entire Jewish population across the world, but is fight against Zionism, a nationalist regime which has killed thousands of innocent civilians in Palestine. "

Given that there is no agreed upon definition of Zionism and to absolutely distinguish it from anti semitism please could you explain what you believe the term "Zionism" means ?
