This thread is full of assumptions, ignorance and the usual bullshit tropes about Islam and Muslims.

By settle do you mean give in to the demand to completely change the ethos on which the school is founded and give in to those who were bullying and harassing girls who don’t want to wear religious clothing and opt out of sport?

This was a vexatious action and anyone going to the school or sending their child there knows the ethos. Attendance at this school is entirely optional.

It’s not clickbait

we all need to open our eyes to what is happening around us.

and yes countries in the Middle East were not necessarily democracies but were in many sense westernised pre the Iran revolution, the Russia war in Afghanistan etc. women wore western clothes, had rights, were educated etc etc.

these are many groups ( and growing) who are calling for increasingly Islamic lifestyles in this country, and it’s infiltrating schools, work etc. it is worrying.

it can happen anywhere and will if people don’t speak out. Unfortunately any talk is simply shut down with cries of Islamophobia, same as any talk of immigration is shut down with cries of racism, or saying men with penises are women are called transphobic- we appear to have lost any rights to have open, transparent and logical /rational debate. That in itself is deeply concerning and how these things start.

The point I am making is that a very small group can have a very big impact on a society. Disproportionately so.

Although, I’d should also like to point out that few people thought the Nazis would come to power. They were initially dismissed as a small band of nutters with a fascist bent. (Yes, socialist in name and fascist in nature. A surprisingly common theme in politics).

Fox news is not renowned for it’s accuracy…

So which part of the Fox News report was inaccurate ?

Charlize43 · 29/04/2024 18:26

Calling people fat is so Schoolyard. Just rise above it.

I saw the Fox news link, and I'm not bothering reading a jackanory article.

So because you don't believe it that means it isn't true ?

Quite and this one shouldn’t have got legal aid either. I wonder why it did 🤔

Interesting that all the posters mocking the OP for using Fox News, as a source.

Not discrediting this has actually happened. You’re not interested that there are people calling for a caliphate but it does interest you someone uses Fox News?

Also, it’s using the words ‘solution’ on the march in Germany, we all know what that is alluding to. I can see from the posters on here already, that that wouldn’t bother them much either.

This whole, YABU to be scared is the same gaslighting nonsense that’s used to silence women and children.

So yes, OP. YANBU if you are scared

Fox News is not the best source of news, it is designed to stir up fear and hatred. I hate to see what the extreme right wing are doing in this country but I like to hope that they are in a minority and while their rhetoric is deeply unpleasant I do not think they will ever hold power here.

Shja · 29/04/2024 18:57

Lyla82 · 29/04/2024 07:08

YANBU to be worried. Islamic extremism is a huge threat to the whole world and people seem to be turning a blind eye just to make themselves seem accepting/virtue signalling.
The anti-Israel rhetoric is simply an excuse for the hate to start showing. But these extremists hate anyone who doesn't align with their way of life, so Jews are just their first target, but everyone else will follow.
It is terrifying. Don't let anyone gaslight you.

Wow. How very unenlightened of you. More Muslims in the world are being killed right now than any threat to any other group. Educate yourself

If you want to spread hate of a particular group, have the courage to accept criticism, and not be picky on petty things on a new poster. Would be nice if you could have been more compassionate. No compassion for Muslims right, acceptable in this climate right?

FactChecking · 29/04/2024 19:06

I think you’ll find it’s Christians.

  • Around 365 million Christians are subject to “high levels of persecution and discrimination”. This compared to 340 million in 2021 (PDF).
  • 1 in 7 Christians are persecuted worldwide, including 1 in 5 in Africa and 1 in 7 in Asia. This compared to 1 in 8 worldwide in 2021 (PDF).
  • 4,998 Christians were killed for faith-related reasons. 90% of those killed were in Nigeria, where attacks on Christians have become more common since 2020 as part of a wider rise in political violence against civilians. Open Doors estimates the number of Christians killed for faith-related reasons worldwide was 5,621 in 2023, 5,898 in 2022, and 4,761 in 2021.
  • 14,766 Churches and Christian properties were attacked.
  • North Korea, Somalia, Libya, Eritrea, and Yemen had the highest rates of reported persecution against Christians.

…Afghanistan took over the top spot from North Korea this year. Open Doors explains that it long was “impossible to live openly as a Christian in Afghanistan. Leaving Islam is considered shameful, and Christian converts face dire consequences if their new faith is discovered. Either they have to flee the country or they will be killed.”

I am sorry to read that. I don’t mean to say that no one else is persecuted. Just highlighting that spreading fear of Islam when tens of thousands of Muslims (women, children (babies) and men) have been killed shows complete lack of any compassion in the part of the posters on here spreading fear and hatred. It implies their deaths are ok. As a Muslim I felt hurt and disappointed yet again that my religion was being used again to dehumanise us.

Whaleway · 29/04/2024 19:15

Noicant · 29/04/2024 06:00

Few thousand idiots, most people in Germany probably don’t want to live in a caliphate so I think they are ok.

A few thousand idiots turned up to that specific rally, at that specific date and time.

A few thousand idiots can radicalise a few thousand more, who can kill a few thousand more.
