@IClaudine , Do you accept that liberal Muslims are being pressed and bullied to comply with the views of other factions? Give up music and sport etc

Just ask Jews in the UK how safe they feel right now

Just ask hijab wearing women in the uK how safe they feel right now (rise in Islamaphobia)

In history the majority of people have not wanted extremist dictators. Guess what happened?

In Berlin they protested against Hitler, in St Petersburg thousands of sailors died at Kronstadt to protest against the Communists. In the French Revolution the middle class protested against the extremists and were guillotined. The term democracy was a chilling insult against the concept of the popular vote for decades after the revolution.

Frequently well organised minority extremists take control when there is a power vacuum.

I understand what you are saying but you would need a muslim majority population to have any hope of that happening. And even then there would be quite a few people who whilst muslim wouldn’t want to be living in a caliphate or have a much gentler interpretation of their religion than these nutters. Just like any religious group there will be different strains depending on country, culture, family tradition as well.

I do think it’s difficult being a normal muslim person in the UK. The reality is muslims in the news tend to be for not great things like terrorism, grooming gangs (another bunch convicted recently) hassling schools/teachers pressuring other convicts into converting, anti-semitic statements from Muslim politicians, the guy trying to run for mayor in Birmingham is a real peach, mainly defends drug dealers as a solicitor and thinks there is a zionist elite doing blah blah, over representation in prison.

Thats just off the top of my head from newspapers etc. people talk about the threat from the far right but the reason people don’t take it as seriously is because the far right a) don’t have that much reach and people are quite comfortable with telling them to fuck off b) haven’t killed that many people.

The problem is that none of that stuff is not true BUT it is not reflective of everyone. There are plenty of thoroughly decent people who happen to be muslim and I think it’s important to remember that.

If you mean was there a court case against Ms Birbalsingh and the Michaela school and was the Claimant legally aided then you're right.

Whether the claim had, on the face of it, merit but not sufficient to convince the court is different. I would interpret the facts, as outlined in the judgment, differently to you.

Ms Birbalsingh and Michaela's inability to recover their costs is not unique; it applies to everybody facing a legally aided party. She might have been better advised to settle.

By settle do you mean give in to the demand to completely change the ethos on which the school is founded and give in to those who were bullying and harassing girls who don’t want to wear religious clothing and opt out of sport?

This was a vexatious action and anyone going to the school or sending their child there knows the ethos. Attendance at this school is entirely optional.

Very strongly disagree that she should have settled, she would have been accepting wrongdoing.

This thread is full of assumptions, ignorance and the usual bullshit tropes about Islam and Muslims.

But the reality is British & western birth rates are rapidly declining whereas Muslim birth rates are not declining... Will things be the same in 30 or 50 years time for our children & grandchildren? It is valid question!

What is being able to put Gaza on the map got to do with anything? You can march in support of Israel if you wish to and others can march in support of Gaza. There is mothing strange about it

So a man pulling off a hijab from a Muslim woman because he hates Muslims isn't Islamophobic because, in your words "Islamophobia is a nonsense term"?

Blah12345678999 · 29/04/2024 17:35

I think all this fear and bad press about Muslims is only going to lead to one thing in the end… Far right extremism being in power (not from Muslims btw)

Anyone who supports Israel at this point is a bloodthirsty psycho

Thought patterns like this are where extremism births.

I wouldn’t worry about a caliphate being established in Germany but I worry this will cause people to support AfD.

This!

KnicksandKnocks · 29/04/2024 17:38

@Bromptotoo You sound knowledgeable on court procedures.
There have been critical comments in newspapers about judges and their bias. Are we sure that the selection of cases to be supported by Legal Aid is fair and open?

It isn’t a man pulling a hijab of a woman who is being accused on here though. It’s anyone who suggests that there is anything problematic with the religion or ideology.

I mean, if you tell everyone who's concerned about calls for a caliphate that it makes them far right, some of them are going to vote in the way you've seemingly advised them to, aren't they?

YABU for treating Fox News as being even remotely credible.

YABU for scaremongering.

YABU for suggesting that just over 1000 people 'calling for a caliphate' amid a population of over 80 million, is petrifying.

We have changed laws for fewer people.

A good reminder to all those who persist in seeing Muslim women as oppressed.

The far right English Defence League hijacked pro-Palestine protests in London, using ‘extreme violence’.

I’m guessing OP didn’t bother starting a thread then. I wonder why?

Edited

Can no one start a thread about anything unless they've started one about everything else?

DomPom47 · 29/04/2024 17:53

You should worry about the AdF party or the way the Germany police are so very heavy handed with pro Palestine protestors. Really think you should put the Muslims who want a caliphate into perspective.

MyrtlethePurpleTurtle · 29/04/2024 17:56

Lookright · 29/04/2024 17:07

As usual, it's always fine to openly hate Muslims and say things that you would never dream of saying about any other group of people. Not even surprising or shocking anymore.

Quite - let's replace various references with to Islam etc in this thread with 'Jew', 'Judaism' (not even 'Zionism'!) and Israel and this thread would be just down quicker than you could say 'oh, Jeremy Corbyn'

People who say it wouldn’t happen only have to look to Afghanistan, Iran, Iraq, Syria. Look at what life was like there in 1960s etc and you’ll realise if we don’t fight against it it can happen
