To wonder how people eat all the cakes in these blhh

So I love to watch baking videos and whatnot. They're always making like 2 dozen massive muffins or 20 cookies or whatever.

When do these all get eaten?? Am I missing something? If I make 12 muffins, we (family of 3) will take maybe a week to eat them, maybe more. They often get frozen and used up eventually. But I always get the impression that we're "slow".

How long would 12 cookies, the size you might get in bakery supermarket last your family?

1 day, maybe two. Cakes and cookies are great and vanish. If they are not great they stay and get stale, not here through.

Cherrysoup · 28/04/2024 12:29

Are you on about Bake-off where they make dozens of items? Me and my Dh always wonder what happens to them. Do the contestants take them home? Are they binned? Seems like a major waste.

I am wondering that …only just started reading the thread 😂

Pretty sure the production crew polish them off.

MoreLidlThanWaitrose · 28/04/2024 12:38

…30 seconds?

DH runs 120km per week on average, plus cycling and weight training. I do a mixture of running/swimming/cycling/weight training. We have active children with healthy appetites.

Realistically a batch of baked goods is doing well if it lasts more than a day or two.

LakeTiticaca · 28/04/2024 12:39

They would last about an hour when.the kids were at home. I rarely bake now, unless we have guests, because I know DH and I would scoff the lot in a day.Our excuse is always: when it's gone it's gone 🤣🤣

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 28/04/2024 12:40

I only make such things for Gdcs’ birthday parties, and then it could be 4 dozen - which all go! Only fairy or cup cakes though. I really don’t like muffins - always so sickly sweet - at least the ones I’ve ever had.

OTOH when I make a batch of oat biscuits* (super quick and easy) for just me and dh, all 12 will disappear that same day.

*with a little lemon zest, exceedingly yum.

NerdWhoEatsMedlar · 28/04/2024 12:42

Family of four adults:
A dozen muffins, about two days.
Eight inch carrot cake about 3 days, DS not too keen.
Tray of cookies, a few hours.

If you have a group of teens at your disposal, then a few dozen muffins can vanish in a couple of hours.

lovemycbf · 28/04/2024 12:47

@chaticat haha spot on 🤣

fluffi · 28/04/2024 12:52

5 cookies that you’d get from a supermarket bakery could easily be eaten in half a day or less by me, they are so delicious! I’d pay the same price to just buy 1 because I have no willpower and saving / freezing them just doesn’t work - I know they are there and want to finish them.

Muffins: I could finish off a 4 pack of supermarket bakery muffins in a day no problem.

I just don’t buy either anymore as it’s too many calories 😞

Elphame · 28/04/2024 11:22

DP would eat one a day. He was brought up that way.

I probably would have one to try but I don't have much of a sweet tooth. I make Welsh cakes for the 6 Nations matches but other than that I don't make cakes and biscuits as a rule.

My darling Mum used to make the most amazing Welsh cakes …absolutely amazing and they literally were gone same day they were baked .Think I might try and bake some but not sure if Ihave a griddle.

Looks like it. MN competitive under eating. So dull.

Testina · 28/04/2024 13:03

It’s almost like people who make video content decide the quantity on what is going to look good for the video, not what they eat.

You know if they make more than they need, and don’t have someone in mind to give it to, they just bin it right? They’re not making food at this point, they’re making content.

notprincehamlet · 28/04/2024 13:03

Don't like cookies but I made some scones intending to freeze half of them ... and ended up eating them all (with a massive salad obviously). I can't be trusted with fast-burning carbs.

Blanketpolicy · 28/04/2024 13:03

If I made 12 muffins and they lasted a week with some being frozen I'd be looking for a new recipe!

ghostyslovesheets · 28/04/2024 13:05

12 muffins would last me a year - no wonder you have to freeze them - I'd manage one a month after my fruit and salad - no wonder we have an obesity crisis in this country etc etc ...

In the real world - with 3 teen/adult children - 3 days max! DD's 1+2 like baking and all three like cooking

RagzRebooted · 28/04/2024 13:07

Whatever I make a batch of is gone in about 24 hours. So I don't do it often!
I'll let everyone know how many they get each so they can ration themselves, but generally it's all gone by the end of the next day.

NortieTortie · 28/04/2024 13:12

We'd have one a day after tea. Maybe one with dinner too. Definitely wouldn't last for the freezer.

Mulhollandmagoo · 28/04/2024 13:12

Honestly, I don't wanna share how quickly we would polish them off, as it's embarrassing 🤣

It's why I don't bake!

tara66 · 28/04/2024 13:13

That's the least of your worries! Cake is very bad for cholesterol and should be given up - also cookies, muffins or whatever!

Cherrysoup · 28/04/2024 13:16

TimeInBlue · 28/04/2024 12:35

Blimey! They must eat nothing else! Or maybe I'm underestimating how many people are on the crew, I have no idea!

They do on James Martin

WaitingForMojo · 28/04/2024 13:18

There are six of us and they’d be gone the same day. But my teenage ds would eat five of them at once.

you can make them on a solid based frying pan as well.

Well I'm screwed, I can eat the whole bag of 5 to myself in 1 day🤣🤭
