So I love to watch baking videos and whatnot. They're always making like 2 dozen massive muffins or 20 cookies or whatever.

When do these all get eaten?? Am I missing something? If I make 12 muffins, we (family of 3) will take maybe a week to eat them, maybe more. They often get frozen and used up eventually. But I always get the impression that we're "slow".

How long would 12 cookies, the size you might get in bakery supermarket last your family?

It would depend how full I was after my
massive salad

Of course, one can never be sure. Those salads can indeed be massive!

I was used to baking mountains when I had teenage boys in the house - still do when the DC come home to visit.
I like cake but only one piece a day so I bake maybe once a week and freeze muffins or sliced up cake and get one out when I want it. DH likes a muffin with custard on for his supper.

maximist · 28/04/2024 11:21

If I buy a bag of four bakery cookies from the supermarket at lunchtime, they're likely to be gone by bedtime, and I live on my own.

I don't buy them very often....

lonerider · 28/04/2024 11:22

12 large cookies, well now let's see
12/4 =3
So 3 cookies, per person. Each cookie takes 8 bites to eat, each bite takes approx 5 seconds to masticate and swallow so 5 x 8 = 40,
Now 40 x 3 so 120
So I can conclude it would take precisely 2 mins to polish off 12 cookies.
Your welcome.

19yo DS2 would hoover them up pretty sharpish tbh. If DS2 was home from uni as well they wouldn't last the weekend.

Elphame · 28/04/2024 11:22

DP would eat one a day. He was brought up that way.

I probably would have one to try but I don't have much of a sweet tooth. I make Welsh cakes for the 6 Nations matches but other than that I don't make cakes and biscuits as a rule.

I mediate and imagine smelling the muffins cooking. I'm shocked and appalled anyone needs to inhale real baking muffins.

I'd be huge if I imagined smelling muffins. I imagine smelling lettuce instead.

Beezknees · 28/04/2024 11:23

My 16 year old lad would be able to finish off 12 cookies in a few days. I'd have 1 or 2.

Samlewis96 · 28/04/2024 11:24

If my son home from uni he could demolish them in a day

Depending on if my 7 & 9 year old enjoyed them or not, they wouldnt last a day if they liked them 😅

My son can eat for England, hes a healthy weight for his age, but he could easily eat 12 cookies in one night if the mood took him

Freeze them and give them away! I can’t eat much sweet stuff and DH hasn’t got a sweet tooth. DS (19 so ‘eat any and everything) couldn’t even eat 12.

i often take surplus goodies into the office -get ‘too good to go’ at local bakeries - amazing bread - and last time one added 3 mini loaf cakes, 4 huge brownies and a chocolate muffin (I’d already bought some cake as a treat from a cake shop that makes a lovely rhubarb and rose cake - so happy staff room the next day).

MintyCedric · 28/04/2024 11:29

There’s lots of options if you want less cake:

make half the quantity and bake in paper cases instead of making one big one

for a sandwich cake, make one layer, cut it in half and make a half cake

loaf cakes - half quantity/smaller tin or easy to freeze in slices

take some into work

People have different sized families and different appetites…not sure what’s so confusing about that!

Savoyafternoon · 28/04/2024 11:29

I don’t bake often because I have no willpower when I do. Nothing is left by nightfall.

MikeRafone · 28/04/2024 11:32

12 minutes

Is this like the mumsnet chicken where we all brag how long it takes us to eat cookies?

Haha yup my exact thought too.

Here comes the competitive under eating brigade.

I on purpose don't buy the Costco cookies now because I have been known to eat 1 of each (there are 4 different flavours I think) in a sitting.

My husband would eat the box if he had the chance. Then he'd moan about how unhealthy he'd been.

So for our own health, and my ears, I avoid them now. But I'm sad about it because eating 4 cookies in a go is a good time Halo

WittiestUsernameEver · 28/04/2024 11:00

You know the ones that you get a cafes and stuff, maybe the size of a fist?

So normal sized muffons 🤣

I made a chocolate sandwich cake this morning, we ate it for breakfast.

kitsuneghost · 28/04/2024 11:38

I get you OP. How on earth do people manage to eat more than half a muffin a day.

DahliaMacNamara · 28/04/2024 11:48

You greedy bastards. I have salad leaves growing in the back garden, and I twitch my bedroom curtains once a week to glance at them. Anything more is asking for type 2 diabetes and reinforced flooring. I won't even type out bkn*.

Forhecksake · 28/04/2024 11:52

If I go to the trouble of baking, I'll make loads. Then I'll take some to work or volunteering and send some to school with the kids to share with their friends. People like free baked goods.

VestibuleVirgin · 28/04/2024 11:55

Biscuits! We eat biscuits! We are not American (unless you are American of course). We don't eat cookies. Unless the things you are eating are actual cookies, which are an abomination againt everything a biscuit should be
😃

CommentNow · 28/04/2024 11:55

About 3 days.
I'll probably eat 1
DH will eat more than half
DS will eat the rest.

fieldsofbutterflies · 28/04/2024 11:58

I'd say 12 cookies would last us two-three days - and there aren't even any DC living here, but they're hardly very filling, are they? I'd easily have a couple as a snack with a coffee and DH can easily demolish a bag of five in one sitting.
