So I love to watch baking videos and whatnot. They're always making like 2 dozen massive muffins or 20 cookies or whatever.

When do these all get eaten?? Am I missing something? If I make 12 muffins, we (family of 3) will take maybe a week to eat them, maybe more. They often get frozen and used up eventually. But I always get the impression that we're "slow".

How long would 12 cookies, the size you might get in bakery supermarket last your family?

OP posts:
Xmasbaby11 · 28/04/2024 14:12

I usually limit it to one per person per day, so 4 of us, 12 muffins would last 3 days.

I wouldn’t bother baking for us if my family didn’t like sweet things.

Moidershewrote · 28/04/2024 14:14

OMG I couldn’t possibly eat another THING after my single radish for breakfast🙄

Seriously OP… How do people eat ALL the nice surgery baked cookies and muffins, I just cannot imagine at all..

What a tedious stealth health boast post✅

squishee · 28/04/2024 14:14

Recipetineats (Nagi) donates surplus to the homeless, and has opened a soup kitchen type operation too. She's fab.

About 30 minutes

😂

Na it’s about people stealth boasting about how much they exercise before they stuff themselves with cakes.

kwetu · 28/04/2024 14:19

In my household 2 adults 2 kids I would say that half would probably be gone before they even had a chance to cool. So 24 hours all would be gone!

chaticat · 28/04/2024 10:35

Is this like the mumsnet chicken where we all brag how long it takes us to eat cookies?

I was thinking that. 12 fresh cookies would disappear from the kitchen in a few hours in our house.

Itsharoldbishopagain · 28/04/2024 14:25

I enjoy baking homemade things because I can track the ingredients…

if I made 12 cookies today they’d be gone by tonight. Active family of 3. However I don’t mind because I know the sugar %

Weirdest stealth brag thread 😂

FangsForTheMemory · 28/04/2024 14:26

The problem with most recipes is that they date from when a lot of people did hard manual labour and had large families. No bought cake is equal to a good home made one, but if you live alone, a whole cake is going to last days.

OMG this must be why I can't lose weight. Must remember next time to be the lettuce not the muffin. Or is celery better?

Celery or lettuce is fine but do remember it must just be ONE stick/leaf, as I know portion control can be a problem with some people.

JMSA · 28/04/2024 14:28

It would take us no time at all, because we're greedy as fuck.

Amateur- think could do it in 10.

I basically eat as much as I can before my next working day (often not really eating anything else) then I have to take the rest into work for the brownie points and so I don't develop type 2 diabetes 😁

HumerousHumous · 28/04/2024 14:41

I read your post and immediately went off to bake some muffins. They're now done and on the table. We are a four adult household, although one is currently away. DH has just devoured two of the 14. Four have gone immediately so I'll you know.

On another note, I am always amazed at people who still have their 'Christmas chocolate', eg selection packs, tins of sweets etc hanging around at Easter. Wtf is wrong with them?!

CKL987 · 28/04/2024 14:41

It would take me and DH a few hours to eat 20 cookies. We are greedy! I find it weird when it takes people so long to eat yummy stuff.

We could easily eat 12 supermarket bakery cookies in one day. We're a family of 6, including 4 teenagers. I'd be surprised if there were any left by lunch time tbh. I've stopped baking so often, because it takes longer to bake and clear up than it takes my sons to eat the results.

My mum always said this, however she has always been an awful cook.
Cakes a bit burnt, not enough jam, and butter ( margarine) icing, without enough icing sugar or vanilla.
Burnt rock buns, she couldn’t manage scones.
And I think that’s it.
She was never encouraged to bake. And very rarely did bother.
She really made the worst chocolate cake.
So I’m not sure who ate it all, but we didn’t have a great deal of bought cake, so perhaps we were just desperate !!

I can remember her watching cookery programmes.

There are 3 of us in the family - I'd probably eat one or two over a few days. My DC would probably eat one a day/every other day. So would last a week to a week and a half. I wouldn't ever buy that amount, though. I'd buy individually from Lidl one cookie each or just for the DC to have at the weekend.

My darling Mum used to make the most amazing Welsh cakes …absolutely amazing and they literally were gone same day they were baked .Think I might try and bake some but not sure if Ihave a griddle.

Good solid frying pan will work if you don’t have a griddle.

Yes - mine don’t last too long especially if my father is involved!

Wigtopia · 28/04/2024 15:24

we in our household are part of the greedy bastard brigade. Left to our own devices home made buns cakes a biscuits would be permanently on menu! To avoid becoming massive we have some on the day it’s baked and the following day it is distributed to neighbours/taken into the office to share out. But if we didn’t do this I don’t think they’d last long enough to be frozen!

PoppyCherryDog · 28/04/2024 15:36

About 5 years for us, maybe half a crumb of muffin a day

SkyBloo · 28/04/2024 15:39

Doesn't anyone ever have friends over? We'll host a bbq for friends and DC and might have 16 people in the garden, a couple of trays of cupcakes go in about two hours.
