Next door neighbour has invited me a round for a glass of wine. DS will be in bed next door I have camera on his room so I can see him.

Would you go or not? Or does it feel to much like a Madeline McCann situation.

DS is 2

Yes but I wouldn't get drunk and I would have the monitor in front of me so I can see them at all times.

WorriedMama12 · 27/04/2024 21:10

I'd be too worried to enjoy myself.

Agreed.

I might worry about leaving the Christmas tree lights on, the tumble dryer on, a candle, something in the oven as fire risks…

But the likelihood of something just exploding is pretty slim.

Indeed, life is too short to spend it panicking about things that almost certainly won't happen. I wouldn't leave lithium ion batteries charging or the oven or tumble drier on but I just think the likelihood of my house spontaneously combusting is negligible.

I tend to agree with those who are saying that if it's within the size of a single fairly large house I would go next door, but if they were big, detached houses I probably wouldn't.

I'd probably prefer to invite someone here instead, but given I live in a small terrace it would be as quick to get home as it would in (for example) my parents much larger house.

If you can’t see that - there’s no hope. I have zero time for neglectful behaviour so will not respond to your @

Well that has me convinced!

No, not a chance, never, not happening, no.

But what about the risk of having a glass of wine whilst in charge of a child!

What about the risk of spontaneous human combustion, or a plane landing on the house while you're having your dinner, or of a madman injecting poison into your apples in the supermarket before you've bought them!!

People that don't feed them, beat them, emotionally abuse them?

Lunabetty · 27/04/2024 21:20

Common sense isn't that common. Absolutely not.

Littleoldme12 · 27/04/2024 21:20

This has got to be a wind up, surely?

If not, sort yourself out.

UrbanFan · 27/04/2024 21:20

No nope nay not a good idea at all and probably illegal.

Unless you are seriously intollerant to alcohol there are no risks of having a glass of wine with two year old.
Tbh you can have a glass of wine with a newborn if you are in a state to compose yourself and be rational after it.
My MIL cannot be trusted with an ally cat after a sip of wine as she cannot tolerate it. I would trust my DH to take care of newborn after three glasses and to care for two year old after some more.
Obviously in the same house tho.

Exactly, I was being facetious

I don't think this sort of thing would even scratch the surface, really.

Theoldcuriosityshop · 27/04/2024 21:22

Does no one sit out in the garden in the summer when the kids are in bed. We used to and we didn't have monitors.

Teaalwayshelps · 27/04/2024 21:23

No, wouldn't do this.

coffeewithmilk · 27/04/2024 21:25

Absolutely fucking not

What if something happened like a fire started and you couldn't get back into the house (I mean unlikely but it would be the one time that something would happen)

What would happen if you were in the garden and a fire started? Do you not sit or go into the garden when your chosen are in bed?

Allfur · 27/04/2024 21:27

Most accidents happen in the home, whilst you are there

chocotwist · 27/04/2024 21:28

NO way are you mad?!
