My personal opinion is that it's not basic and I'm partial to a cheese and pickle sandwich from time to time.

It’s basic in that it’s not fancy or modern but there’s nothing wrong with it!

Also cheese, ham, pineapple and salad cream in a white bread sandwich with lettuce is a magnificent creation. If you aren’t a pineapple lover then replace the pineapple with pickled onions…

Pickle..the devils condiment and you've just ruined the cheese.

I would say classic rather than basic. Whatever you want to call it it's delicious, and I would far rather have one than a fancy sandwich.

Yes, a cheese and pickle sandwich with butter is basic - and that's exactly why it is so delicious. You can taste all the elements and they are good. Calcified sandwiches with more different elements in them always contain something I don't like, and it's impossible to taste the different things as they morph into a (usually mushy) amalgam of yuckiness. Yes I am looking at you rocket, mayonnaise, sriracha, black pepper, roasted aubergines, stuffing, etc etc
