Yes or no, what do you think?

My personal opinion is that it's not basic and I'm partial to a cheese and pickle sandwich from time to time.

Toast it too and I’m in

FakeMiddleton · 26/04/2024 20:36

Basic but a banger.

Don't mess with the classics, man. Nothing to be improved

CaptainCabinets · 26/04/2024 20:36

Basic but WONDERFUL.

I’ve just gone to the cupboard to see if we have any pickle and we don’t 😭 would I be justified in sending DP out to fetch pickle for his pregnant beloved? 😂

Knittedfairies2 · 26/04/2024 20:39

Nothing wrong with a basic cheese and pickle sandwich. No faffing about, hence basic.

VickyEadieofThigh · 26/04/2024 20:39

I recommend the Lidl version of Branston.

ClonedSquare · 26/04/2024 21:34

It's basic in that it's not anything special. Quite old fashioned, I’d associate it with my parents generation or older (so 50+).

I wouldn't call it basic as in a neutral or inoffensive option that I'd serve for someone if I didn't know their sandwich preferences. If someone said they'd done a "basic platter of sandwiches" for a meeting or something, I wouldn't expect cheese and pickle to be among the options. It's an acquired taste (and pretty vile to me).

Lampslights · 26/04/2024 21:35

It doesn’t get any more basic really. But that doesn’t mean it’s not nice.

Whats the definition of basic and are you using basic as a negative term?

Basic and simple is good

Cheese and pickle is a combination that cant be easily beat, although Cheese and lettuce for some reason is a fantastic combination, I dont know why

Most people go cheese and tomato but I've always preferred cheese and cucumber 😋

Edited

Are you able to say what you find vile about it? Presumably not the bread or the cheese, so is it the pickle? My husband doesn't like chutney or pickle because he loathes anything that tastes, and crucially smells, of vinegar. I, on the other hand, absolutely love vinegar, especially with something salty. For me the vinegar is beautifully balanced by the sweetness and spiciness of chutney or pickle.

My dad liked a sandwich made with some sort of cold meat and pickle, but the only kind of cold meat I like with chutney is corned beef. I like mustard with ham and mustard or horseradish with beef.

Basic but delicious (with extra mature cheddar).

Okeydokeyroo · 26/04/2024 21:45

Yes it’s basic, but that’s not a bad thing.

Thinkbiglittleone · 26/04/2024 21:46

I've just eaten one they are both basic and magnificent

thistimelastweek · 26/04/2024 21:49

You could make it basicker without the pickle but it would be less delicious.

SocksAndTheCity · 26/04/2024 21:57

Make toasties with the corned beef and pickle, @Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g . Gamechanger 😊

StarlightLime · 26/04/2024 22:00

It's basic, but that's hardly an issue?

Talkwhilstyouwalk · 26/04/2024 22:03

It's a great combo! Even better in toastie form......

WhitegreeNcandle · 26/04/2024 22:03

I don’t care either way but I’m very grateful to you for reminding me of the joy of a cheese and pickle sandwich and am off to add to tomorrows shop to have for lunch next week. It’s the food of the gods!

twentysevendresses · 26/04/2024 22:13

Of course it's basic...how could it not be? It's got cheese...and pickle!

Doesn't mean it's not delicious of course, but it's hardly going to take hours of preparation or break the bank is it?

It would help if the OP had bothered to say what she thought basic meant. If she means simple and easy, what's wrong with that? If she means lacking in sophistication and originality, so what? Tried and tested combinations that can be made in moments from straightforward, affordable, easily purchased ingredients are an absolute godsend.

Canwegetanothercat · 26/04/2024 22:18

cheese and pickle pickle pickle….. basic
(take a bite, take a bite)

thanks, I’ve only just got this song out of my head

Notreat · 26/04/2024 22:19

Yes it's basic but that doesn't mean it isn't good

Fucking lush with fresh bread and Heinz Tomato soup.

I read this with and nessa from gavin and Stacey popped up in my brain

Summerbay23 · 26/04/2024 22:42

Basic but definitely fine if that’s what you fancy.

theonlygirl · 26/04/2024 22:46

Cheese alone would be basic.
The pickle takes it to another level.
