Mines coffee. The whole coffee culture made me feel very bland for just wanting a cuppa when out with friends but in my 30's I finally realised it just wasn't for me.

I think the thread should have been called what food/s have you tried to like and just don't. Or, what foods did you "think" you'd like and don't!

So going by that premise -
Rocky Road (love it all separately, just not together!)
Okra
Anything crinkle cut - crisps, chips
Taramasalata
Venison sausages
Whisky
Pies and pasties with beef and gravy inside
Banana and caramel spring rolls (cheers Gok Wan, I thought I'd love these, made them and they were vile!)
Thai curries onto -
Lemongrass
Parsley, the crinkly one

Churchview · 26/04/2024 09:23

Tea.

Marchintospring · 26/04/2024 09:32

Macadamia nuts.
I love nuts in all guises but then noticed these horrible fatty tasting ones in mixed packets or in chocolate. Ghastly.

Jasmin1971 · 26/04/2024 09:45

Steak
Courgettes
Baby corn
Avocado
Goats cheese
White and milk chocolates
Anything with salt in that should be sweet
Calamari

BarrelOfOtters · 26/04/2024 10:06

Brazil nuts just evil - don't care how good they are for you. They have a bitterness that I can't take.

Taramasalata - I llove fish and sea food - but dipping a bread stick into pink fishy tasting gloop -- just can't.

Crab - fresh dressed crab at the seaside - food of the gods. Out of a little tub from the supermarket not so much.

Gnocchi, had some in a gorgeous Italian restaurant and they were little clouds of loveliness in a cheesy sauce. Tried the ones in vacuum packs from Sainsbury's .... so different not nice at all. But I am not going to be making my own....they weren't that nice.

Things i try periodically to see if i've grown to like, but still hate:
Coffee
Wine

Things i've always hated but is common in/on so many foods:
Sweetcorn
Mushroom

Words · 26/04/2024 13:33

Some things I dislike hugely but not an actual aversion:
Instant coffee
American style pizza
Woody tasting carrots

Aversions have tried and failed to overcome:
Anything liquorice-y
So liquorice
Fennel
Aniseed.
Celeriac ( sometimes)

Oyster ( love mussels though and other shellfish as long as it is de - shelled- hate messing around with it on the plate and can't abide shell in it)

Also anything with an extreme earthy taste

Extremely mature cheddar
Too much truffle

So pleased to see people trying things several times as I have.

I've had a partial win with aubergine and courgette. courgette spiralised and fried in butter is very nice. Cutted up in a dish of other things or roasted- no.

Everything else - bring it on!

MonsteraMama · 26/04/2024 13:42

Olives.

I've tried so hard. I love pickled things, I love olive oil, I love Italian food, I love all the typical flavours olives come infused with, I love strong flavours, I feel like I should like olives. And I'm not a fussy eater, I'll eat basically anything. But for whatever reason olives make me gag.

wombleberry · 26/04/2024 14:11

Pasta. It's just so very pointless. It tastes of nothing, and all the good stuff is in the sauce or the meaty or fishy bits that are included with the pasta. So why do we need the pasta itself?!

I don't enjoy most alcohol, coffee, olives, anything aniseed-flavoured and parsnips.

Planesmistakenforstars · 26/04/2024 14:14

Black coffee. I've just embraced that I like a truck of sugar and tonnes of cream in it.
Mexican food. I love spicy food, and I like the idea of it. But there's just some flavour in most of it that I do not like and I can't put my finger on it.

grumpypedestrian · 26/04/2024 14:17

Game. It makes me sad as I really want to like it, but I don’t.

Marzipan.

Sourisblanche · 26/04/2024 14:20

Pasta.

Cattenberg · 26/04/2024 14:28

Tea. The world likes tea. This country really, really loves tea. I think tea tastes awful.

I had green tea-flavoured ice-cream once and it made me realise that no amount of milk or sugar would turn tea into a pleasant flavour.

ADHDGURL · 26/04/2024 19:47

Coffee..fancy shmancy or nescafe it's horrible...rather have water.
Burrata. Tastes like greasy mozzarella..gross why would anyone pay £10 for this??

Barney16 · 26/04/2024 19:54

Hot chocolate (would rather eat a kit kat)
Any herbal tea
Gnocchi (truly pointless)
Cream cheese
Ratatouille

I could go on and on

RaraRachael · 26/04/2024 20:12

Wine - I've tried every kind but I still make a grimacing face trying to get it down my throat. OH loves it and raves about different types, but cheap/expensive - they all taste awful to me.

FrannieGallops · 26/04/2024 20:13

Olives. I want to like them and buy endless tins of Perello olives in various guises for my olive-loving family, but I hate those nasty, bitter little fuckers.
