Abhorrent comments made about a persons height

DistinguishedSocialCommentator · 25/04/2024 09:30

Calling someone who is below the average height, "pint-sized" is abhorrent
at the very least. A person's height is beyond the person's control and calling them "pint-sized," some may even say it's an ableist comment

Yesterday, during the PMQ's the lead was taken by the deputy heads of both Tories and Labour. Standing in for the Labour leader was Angela Rayner. She called the Tory leader, Rishi Sunak a "pint-sized leader" when she was losing the arugument

This reminds me of clowns at work who had nicknames for other people who did not fit in with their agenda. Often people will make disparaging comments about another when they feel threatened because of their own inadequacies.
Should she apologise for making these disgusting comments?

AIBU to believe these comments were necessary, inappropriate and disgustingly abhorrent.

Angela Rayner aims ‘pint-sized loser’ jibe at Rishi Sunak during PMQs

Deputy Prime Minister Oliver Dowden countered the criticism by mocking the Labour deputy over her housing arrangements.

Please OP, for the love of baby Jesus and the angels, change your name. There isn't enough irony in the world for this

She was quoting Nadine Dorries.

This does put a new wheel on the wagon. It sounds like AR was being slightly more clever than my earlier posts gave her credit for.

I stand by what I said earlier in that it would be wrong to have a set of standards for your "team" and another for the other, you can't just fall back on "well, I can't get worked up about it" or "that lot are evil and kill kittens so they deserve it"

But it does sound like AR's comment had a little more background as a quote. Maybe a bit close to the edge, but not over it.

TimeFlysWhenYoureHavingRum · 26/04/2024 07:50

So what? The fact is Rayner directed the comment at the PM. She knew it was not nice, clever but an insult re something the PM had no control over.
How would this woman take it if someone made a reference to a facial feature?

Name-calling used to happen in schools. Nowadays, people who lack the ability of a good debate often resort to insults at another person's appearance. It is disgusting

The reason KS wont get rid of this, open mouth and insult others is, he is too scared what the ultras left MP's will do and that is another fact

Sorry but what are you actually on about now lol

IClaudine · 26/04/2024 09:28

This thread is mad. The OP doesn't even understand basic facts.

Not sure why the lol?
His wife is worth a lot, lot, a lot more but Rishi is a multi millionaire many times over due to his own hard work/skills/etc. Like it or not that is a fact

He came from a wealthy background.
Angela Rayner has overcome adversity with no help from her family. She came from an extremely deprived background. She grew up in poverty . Her mother couldn't read or write. She became a teenage mother at 16, she worked as a carer. She studied part time to get a qualification while working.
One of her children was born very premature and is registered blind.
She is a northern , working class ,intelligent, strong , attractive young woman which is why she is attacked so viciously and so often

Be kind, anti bullying campaigns, mental health initiatives and yet the leaders of our country speak like this. Has completely and utterly put me off her. This is no different than name calling in the playground, although that can be very damaging and I suspect Rishi couldn’t care less.
She’s a disgrace.

Thank you.
I bet you that Rishi still "care"s but he can't do anything about it. I bet you it hurts but he is getting used to it as he knows the people that use name-calling in this was are weak and lack knowledge and skill to encounter a sensible debate

Oh lord, our future is in the hands os a person with dreadful extensions

So you obviously don't think Ange did anything wrong in throwing out a mild insult (that was actually a reference to Dorries' "book") about Sunak?

Excellent, we are in agreement!

bombastix · 26/04/2024 09:34

All I see is that Rayner really gets under the skin of some rather brittle Conservatives, who believed they are owed something. Rayner reminds them are not owed anything.

Btw, obviously she is voted for and has some measure of support. Presumably this contempt extends to her supporters too.

This is why she is going to beat you, Tories. A smarter party would have ignored her. You have built her up

You are saying just because Rishi's parents worked their bolloxs off, working 7 days a weeks for years being prudent and risk-averse re business and investments then able to aid their children is a negative? Re Rayner, blame her parents if you feel she lacked the support.

Please stop posting envious comments re people doing well as if people are honest, no one wants to live, hand-to-mouth

"she studied part-time" WTH, millions have done that, so what?

We worked up to 60 hours a week when we were younger and our aim was to clear the mortgage, not borrow a penny other than a mortgage and not try to run before we could walk

What was your point? There are millions that are in worse position and now world leading CEO's. Look at those in thrid world nations some of whom that live in mud huts, go hungry for days and now leading business, sports people etc etc. I'm confused what your point is

My guess is she’d laugh and come back with a witty response. She doesn’t take herself very seriously.

I’m pretty confused what yours is.

Well he will be fucking off to California soon, so that is something. Shame we'll be paying him a pension for the rest of his life, though.

Is it against the rules as they stand? Dont worry it was a rhetorical question

You need to open you eyes and first consider those that have to reign in shame and still get life time pensions first- , lol - ok!

He was elected. Its a parliamentary democracy, we don't elect a prime minister. Presumably you said the same about Gordon Brown then?

Also, midget isn't a nice word to use. Although I guess a lot of the posters who love to scream "ableist" will probably hold their tongue because it was said against someone on the other team.

Billionaire? Well the billions come from his wife, millions come from him. Personally, I'd like to have someone in charge that has shown a degree of high functioning. And to earn that kind of money, he clearly had something about him. So I'd say "making it" in life is plus rather than a minus when choosing our leaders.
