AIBU to be so sick of being so bloody cold all the time when it's supposed to be spring?

This must be the worst spring weather ever encountered.

OP posts:
midgetastic · 24/04/2024 12:04

Probably the same year I remember snow on midsummers day

But overall that year had good days/ weeks as a well as bad ones

AngelsWithSilverWings · 24/04/2024 12:06

It's my birthday this week and I've had all types of weather on my birthday over the years. I've had snow more than once , hail stones , a few heatwaves that left me with accidental sunburn and also heavy rain with flooding.

I am so fed up with the cold weather this year.

Jeminii · 24/04/2024 12:10

Friday/the weekend were lovely here as long as you kept moving but dropped cold overnight still. Now back to grey/rain nearly a frost overnight and blankets during the day if sitting down. Agree with pps about agricultural crops (and lambing - so many lambs lost due to the shit Spring). It's been the shittest 9 months for farming. Been miserable for horse owners too. Rather glad I don't have one anymore!

Bleugh.

shivbo2014 · 24/04/2024 12:16

Definitely colder than usual. I always put my daughter in her summer dresses after easter but for the first time I haven't been able to

BogRollBOGOF · 24/04/2024 12:21

Ironically, statistically it's been a warm start to the year because the near constant blanket of cloud has meant little frost and kept the night time temperatures up despite the lack of daytime warmth.
This does not console me when I'm still having to use the heating because it's too dull to get any heat from the conservatory to warm the house through. I've known colder, but we've been stuck in cool, grey, wet mode since July.

There's great chunks of bare fields only recently drained of standing water where it's just been too cool and wet for the seeds to grow.

Even the daffodills came up late and slipped away early clearly fed up of being abused by the elements.

ichundich · 24/04/2024 12:32

I'm so fed up with it too. Think last spring wasn't great either though, or the one before? I remember it being really cold in May 2010 because the cherry trees were only just blossoming on my way to the hospital for antenatal check-ups. And spring 2006 was also very cold.

countrygirl99 · 24/04/2024 12:34

Where I keep my horse they usually go out 24/7 at the beginning of May. Last year it was 21st because the fields were too wet. It won't be any better this year but at least the fields are beginning to dry out.

TheaBrandt · 24/04/2024 12:36

Hard agree. Wearing my depths of winter thick jumper. Hate it - love being warm

MidnightPatrol · 24/04/2024 12:38

Agreed OP it’s freezing.

Im not sure we even really had a summer last year either.

Still got my wool coats out.

SmileLady · 24/04/2024 12:38

yep! I'm WFH today and have the heated blanket on.....

existentialpain · 24/04/2024 12:39

it's completely ridiculous. I'm in gloves and woolly hat in the mornings.

WhatNoRaisins · 24/04/2024 12:39

I and several people I know are finding our skin is getting really dry, probably from all the time we're inside with the heating on. I feel like I can cope with winter in winter but not when it goes on until May. The light evenings make it worse, can't embrace the coziness but don't feel like being outdoors.

MereDintofPandiculation · 24/04/2024 12:40

I have a photo of DH and I last year, sitting outside under the cherry tree enjoying a cream tea. That's not the cherry tree that's out at the moment, that's the earlier cherry tree that has now finished flowering.

Flowermarket · 24/04/2024 12:40

The phrase 'n'er cast a clout til May be out' (modern day translation - don't plant out any tender plants too early or risk the frost!) suggests we've often had chillier weather at this time of year.

But the long, wet, dull weather since July last year (apart from a week or so in September) has been very trying. Roll on some warmth!

TeenLifeMum · 24/04/2024 12:41

I sat outside with my coffee this morning but with a blanket 🤣 I was so determined to e in the garden because it’s my happy place spring and summer, but it’s not really warm enough.

Smittenkitchen · 24/04/2024 12:42

Quite chilly here in Spain too!

bakewellbride · 24/04/2024 12:42

Agreed op, it's freezing here! I took my toddler to the park for ten mins this morning and she had a winter hat and coat. When we arrived at toddler group straight after she was shivering 😭 so fed up of it but I know I'm supposed to be grateful it's not raining so at least there's that I guess!

YeahComeOnThen · 24/04/2024 12:42

BillieTheFish · 24/04/2024 11:05

I've not put any washing outside since September

@BillieTheFish

i put washing out most days, it doesn't need to be warm to dry. Even if it's not bone dry, it'll still finish off much more quickly.

some spring warmth would be nice, but as long as I get the occasional sunny day (even if bitingly cold) I'm ok with it.

Thefallout · 24/04/2024 12:45

I'm sick with the flu curled up in bed with the heating on. It could be December.

WhatNoRaisins · 24/04/2024 12:45

To be fair I am grateful to be able to wrap up and go to the park. Better than the endless rain.

My brother was born mid April, my mum says he spent many a birthday with it snowing when he was a child, including the day he was born. We're in the South

i don't think the temps seem low, but the wind is annoying, Especially after such a hard winter - probably the wettest winter in my memory, the hardest with my horses for sure!

Snap we've had snow on DS birthday and had a BBQ!

LlynTegid · 24/04/2024 12:47

Wettest certainly, and also the length of time without much sunshine. Odd days I recall being worse in April, not for such a long period of time.

Liv999 · 24/04/2024 12:48

I'm in Ireland and the sun is out but its freezing! Very misleading weather

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 24/04/2024 12:51

North Yorkshire here. We got stuck under the cloud last spring, so it was cold, cloudy, windy and dry. We had one week of sunshine at the end of June, then it started to rain. This year seems to be a rinse and repeat of last year, except with added rain. The Easterly wind would strip the flesh off your bones, we've hardly seen the sun and the temperature hasn't got above 14 degrees yet.

Mind you, I hang my washing out all year round and have, with judicious timing, managed to get some dry within a day. But that's due to the wind not nice weather.
