No, their ugly behaviour is in part an extreme reaction to genuine issues, a bit like with Extinction Rebellion. One of those issues is the odd self flagellation of the British, which doesn't seem to happen in other countries. Extreme patriotism is a reaction/counter to this.

The Spanish aren't filled with self loathing over the Spanish Empire. Neither are the the Italians over the Roman Empire. Same with the Persian empire, Byzantian empire, etc etc.

It's odd that we're so happy to flog ourselves and bend over backwards to pay reparations for the events of hundreds of years ago to other countries that are currently the worst offenders in modern slavery.
