How often are you complimented on your looks

In particular by people you've just met. Have been out with a very attractive friend tonight who has had men fawning over her/complimenting her whilst I was just ignored as usual. I'm probably a 5 but I don't think my physical appearance has ever been complimented by a stranger. Feeling a bit crap. Does this happen to other people?

Never in all my 56 years. Unlikely to start now!

GreyCarpet · 20/04/2024 13:01

I was stopped by a man a couple of weeks ago who said, "Fucking Hell. You're gorgeous."

I'm 49. But it was about 2pm and he was drunk on the street so not sure that counts! 😅

bobsandvangene · 20/04/2024 13:04

I get fairly frequent compliments on my hair from women and sometimes men.
It's very long and ginger.
Makes me feel good :)

FacingDivorceButSad · 20/04/2024 13:06

As a teenager I was always told I had beautiful eyes by adult men 😬but as a mid 30s adult never

Yuck 🤢

NotaNorovirusFan · 20/04/2024 13:20

Never, not since I was a teen when a man stopped me in the street and told me I was beautiful, I later saw the same man in the news convicted as a serial rapist.

Yuck 🤢

Yea it was grim and one of many things that made me realise how vile men can be

ErinAoife · 20/04/2024 13:28

Never. I am the type that everyone over look, it is like I don't exist.

quite a bit

I'm not "normal" i stand out and it gets mentioned a lot

i also look way younger than my 43 years due to lifestyle choices i made from a teenager onwards

im 6ft, 36 inch legs size 12 feet adult(this was by age 11)
have N cup breasts, used to be a P

i have very long jet black hair (natural not dyed) and very pale skin been like this since a teenager

ie never drunk tea ,coffee or alcohol
smoked, done drugs hung about in smoky pubs(90s/00s era)
done cold water swimming for years(streams and seas)

i live in the forest(seriously)so have plenty of clean fresh air
and 30 minutes away from a beach so i have sea air or fresh forest air(the training ive had the air quality you live in makes a difference to your skin )

my skin age is 31(there is a tool that can test it)

i drink pints of whole blue milk and water
never dieted but don't eat healthily(diet is atrocious)

i do have a pepsi/coke habit thorough and drink way to many cans a week

never wore make up and since a teenager(90s)only used organic soap or serums from lush

im also trained in deep facials and micro needling so do it to myself and have done for years

as ive done this for close to 25 years+ i look years younger than i am

i get commented on looking younger, my hair, my height or are they real(boobs) every day

personally im also my user name so very confident ad gobby

so i stand out physically and personally

Slow day on Reddit, was it?

Piglet89 · 20/04/2024 13:31

Daily.

Disturbia81 · 20/04/2024 13:32

@FacingDivorceButSad Same.. I went from being a little girl where older men felt like fatherly figures and a comfort, to being about 12 and getting insidious stares and beeps from lorries and vans and it took away my innocent view of the world.

cakecoffeecakecoffee · 20/04/2024 13:37

Never by strangers.
people I know might compliment what I’m wearing or often my hair (since I’ve stopped dying it & have gone grey!).

but I’m massively obese and never wear make up so I’m not really giving out an attractive vibe.

ThinWomansBrain · 20/04/2024 13:48

TBF, never been told by anyone I'm beautiful - but I'm not.
Short, fat and 60+, I'm frequently (around once a week) stopped by strangers and told my hair looks amazing, occasionally other compliments. If that's on a day when I'm feeling down or grouchy, that can be a real lift.

Bunnyhair · 20/04/2024 14:01

The only people who compliment me on my looks are my mother’s elderly friends. I have the awful feeling they do this because my mother tells anyone who will listen that I was an unbearably awkward teenager with horrible acne and what a miracle it is that I grew out of it. I’m nearly 50 now! 😂

I think I look fine. I long ago made peace with my ugly duckling years and don’t need a bunch of old ladies fretting about my self-esteem.

2024istheyearforme · 20/04/2024 14:24

Only about my hair colour or eye colour or my glasses

NahNeedsGarlic · 20/04/2024 14:29

I get compliments on my hair and clothes fairly regularly, which is nice considering that I do try and make an effort, but I doubt anyone has noticed my looks other than dh since I was in my twenties. I certainly don’t recall any comments, either good or bad.

BaconCozzers · 20/04/2024 14:29

Daily. <dramatic sigh>

Seriously, please never "rank" yourself as a number op, it's misogynistic crap and terrible for self esteem to boot. Some people are more attractive to more people than others are that's life, but to the people who matter you'll be beautiful and so many other things too 😊

CaravaggiosCat · 20/04/2024 14:36

About once a week, but I get a mix of males and females.
I accept the compliments graciously but inside I always feel a bit odd, like imposter syndrome lol.

PotatoPudding · 20/04/2024 14:40

Yes, all the time in my 20s and 30s but I don’t go much further than the supermarket now and I never ever wear makeup or do my hair now. I once had a guy get my bag down for me after a long haul flight and ask to take me for a drink during the layover.

SquirrelMeze · 20/04/2024 14:48

Oh it's going now, but it used to be quite often. More men then women and not everyone. I was clearly a type! Twenty years on, I didn't realise how pretty I was. Hahaha.

AmyDudley · 20/04/2024 14:52

I'm probably a 5 but I don't think my physical appearance has ever been complimented by a stranger.

Please don't rate yourself on some fictional entirely subjective 'scale'. That is something nasty teenage boys do to girls. Don't do it to yourself as a woman, you are worth so much more.

Natsku · 20/04/2024 14:53

I can't think of a time I've been complimented on my looks since I was a teenager or perhaps early 20s.

HootyMcBooby · 20/04/2024 15:20

I get comments about my eyes a lot from strangers, I suppose because bright green eyes are pretty rare and they are large. I have had quite a few comments about my hair too (mid back length, thick and curly).
The only compliment that means anything to me are the ones my husband gives me daily even when I'm in joggers and a bleach stained T-shirt with my hair in a ponytail and no makeup.

deerfawn · 20/04/2024 15:37

Frequently still. Though the last person, from just a few weeks ago, who over complimented me on how beautiful I was, decided to sexually harass me to the extent he had to be reported and caused some real problems, including to my mental health (I started a thread about it here back in January).

I'd rather be average looking. Though to be fair that's just the men, women complimenting is a different matter.

deerfawn · 20/04/2024 15:43

The compliments I've liked the most have been from women. Usually about my face and hair (one woman, around a year ago, said I had a beautiful face like a flower and asked if I was a dancer - I am but not professionally). I take a good deal of care about my hair (it's quite long) so those compliments I like the most.
